Good Enough
Korean Mini Series 'Blue Birthday' is a nice blend of mystery and time travel fantasy. However, it didn't prevail in other areas.That is, as most of the drama takes place in high school, after the main lead goes back in time to prevent her best friend's death, the whole school romance feeling, as well as the enjoyment of young friendship and, of course, the nostalgia factor, were lacking. And the action and thriller scenes provided by the mystery case did not aid to hide those mistakes well enough and they did end up being missed.
That said, the drama had its good moments. The fantasy element was well done and didn't get confusing. The performances were all top-notch too and enjoyable.
So, overall, 6 out of 10.

Quick watch for sake of FL
If you like a high school version of complex time travel drama then this may be for you. This is an idol drama, FL is played by Yeri who is member of famous Kpop group, Red velvet. ML is Hongseok, member of Pentagon.Frankly the drama was carried on the shoulders of the FL who is one of the most adorable and likable person you may come across. In the drama she is full of life and goes to any length to save the ones she loves. Her acting and emotional range is quite impressive and can quickly and convincingly play a 17 or 27 years old. The ML was ok but could have been so much better as the balance between their emotions and acting was a bit off. The time jump technique was really just thrown as the randomest idea. It gets so complicated and frequent that you loose interest instead of caring for the out come.
Over all redeeming quality is a quick watch due to short episodes. Not much skin ship as they are just kids.

Surprisingly good!
I watched it in less than 2 days since it’s short and was never bored. Loved the plot twists! Yeri and hongseok have great chemistry but honestly wanted more romantic scenes lol.I cried a couple times towards the end (I like crying in shows haha). The only thing i think could have been better is maybe getting to know the old man that works at the photo shop more. I really like shoes that can make me think and reflect on my life, also really like when I can feel at least a little bad for the antagonist while still hating them.

I was surprised at the surprises!
This webdrama, for the most part, was a very interesting watch. It begged the question - can you ever really move on from a sudden tragedy? It also addressed the paths we take in our lives - decisions aren't made in a vacuum, each thing we chooses changes the trajectory of our lives in some way. In the story, there were some surprising twists that kept my interest piqued.I loved the friendships, though they weren't delved into as much as I'd like due to the jumping back and forth in time.
I didn't really feel the chemistry between the main characters. Their interactions were cute, but initially it was hard to see their attraction for one another because they were sniping at each other all the time. One kiss that looked totally staged.
The acting was good. I was especially impressed with Hongseok during his emotional scenes.
My main complaint was that the time jumps were so frequent, and they weren't good about differentiating between past and present. It often took me a few seconds to figure out what time they were in, and that took away from my immersion in the story.

Blue birthday
Yes once again I have watched something because of Yeri, what can I say, she is my bias in Red Velvet and it was her acting debut I just had to watch this. And I do not regret, maybe there was not any crazy plot twist or actually any suprises ( I do not know if it counts as spoiler) but it was enjoyable. You could easily watch it on Youtube, episodes are short, also if you want you can watch it as a movie (Rakuten Viki).Was this review helpful to you?

Worth a watch
Solid but not spectacular. If you like time travel dramas I would give it a go.The good:
The story is interesting and keeps you entertained. This probably the strongest aspect of this series. The short running time of each episode moves the plot along quickly. I liked how we got to see the link between past and present timelines play out.
Standout cast for me were Yeri a Ha Rin and Kim Yi Seo as Hye Min.
The friendship between the leads is very sweet and adds so much needed comedy at times.
The bad:
It's definitely from a smaller studio, evident from the OST, script and acting. This is not a direct criticism per-say but worth bearing in mind if your viewing time is limited! I didn't find the OST memorable, some of the dialogue is pretty basic and there's a few crocodile tears. Also you get the feeling with a bigger budget they could have done a lot more.
The kiss between the two leads was a very poor effort.

As always there is a second lead cha eun seong who has crush on oh ha rin (as i think, actually i am not sure) sometimes i doubt eun seong will be the one to kill ji seo jun...and sometimes i think..No how can he kill his own friend...aaahhhhhh i don't know
I have to wait for the upcoming episodes to know what will happen

Went in for the cast came out in awe
I love Red Velvet. I love Pentagon (particularly Hongseok) so this was a must.Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much. But my goodness what an amazing drama.
One of the best I’ve watched, western or eastern.
The acting was brilliant, the story was so well thought out - convoluted? - a little bit, but that’s kdramas for you, it was just so good.
Because the episodes were short I watched it in one ‘first day off in a long time’ sitting; and what a fantastic use of my day.
Absolutely brilliant.

I really enjoyed Blue Birthday, especially after having watched Lovely Runner. It has the same time traveling concept in order to save the male lead. However, I enjoyed this more as the plot was more put together through to the end. One thing to take note of as well is that each episode is around 20mins! This drama is not a romcom, I enjoyed it for the way the mystery is solved and how the time travel topic is done. Yeri does not disappoint and Hongseok...well I think I fell in love!🤭

L'amour au-delà des voyages dans le temps
Qui n'a jamais voulu faire un retour dans le passé pour revivre un moment ou le modifier ? Cela dit, modifier le passé va obligatoirement changer le futur. Oh Ha Rin va rapidement en prendre conscience.C'est une femme au caractère fort. Têtue comme une mule, indépendante et pleine de force. La lycéenne émotionnellement réservée n’est plus et elle prend le temps de réfléchir à ses actions dans le futur. L’alternance entre les deux époques nous montre une évolution du personnage. Cette évolution ne devient que plus importante lorsqu’elle découvre la capacité de voyager dans le temps. Yeri offre une performance excellente tant dans la peau d’une adulte que d’une lycéenne.
Ji Seo Jun est tout le contraire de son amie depuis l’enfance. Il est discret, calme et parfois distant, mais gentil et d'une grande douceur. Hong Seok incarne un adolescent meurtri qui peine à découvrir la vérité sur sa mort. Au terme de voyage dans le temps, on sent ses sentiments se confronter. Pas de doute sur la performance de Hong Seok. Sa présence est là et se ressent au travers de ses expressions.
Kim Gyeol Yu, Lee Sang Jun et Park Joo Hyun tiennent également un rôle important et offrent des performances superbes qui viennent renforcer l’esprit amical du drama.
Au travers de ses retours dans le temps, l’intrigue prend de la consistance. Les causes et effets restent mystérieuses pendant un temps. Jusqu’au moment où on doute réellement des événements. Au final, Blue Birthday répond à toutes les questions et ferme chaque intrigue précédemment ouverte. Les retours dans le passé n’ont pas comme seul but de faire revivre et sauver Ji Seo Jun. Et c’est exactement pour cette raison que ce drame surprend.
Chaque fin d’épisode dévoile les règles pour voyager dans le temps. Quand ça commence, quand ça se termine, les causes à effet de modifier le passé.
En bref, il est facile de plonger dans l'univers de Blue Birthday grâce à son scénario mystérieux et entraînant, son casting, sa photographie ainsi que sa BO.
