It just gives off the impression that he's mildly obsessed with her cuz she's "different" from other girl he ever met before, and decided to blackmail her to do what he says ekhm I mean "collaborate" with him for the greater good if you can call it that. Everyone in This Family Is Plotting

Episode 2 remains a solid 8/10 as the family intrigue begins to expand. Qingyuan’s welcoming banquet makes it clear that her relatives are already plotting and that there may not be a genuinely nice person among them. Thankfully, Qingyuan can think on her feet and refuses to back down. Her push-and-pull confrontation with Yan Rui on the bridge ends with him falling into the water, but she still chooses to rescue him when she could easily have walked away. It is not romantic yet, although there is definitely something forming between them. Both are targeting the Xie family in search of the truth, even if they still have separate agendas. Yan Rui uses one relative’s foolish display of wealth to place the family under greater scrutiny and obtain a large amount of grain, but that clearly is not his true end goal. The backstory is being released very slowly, so I’m increasingly curious about what he is really pursuing. Current rating: 8/10.
