ugh this was such a comfort drama. i loved the introvert love. bom and yeorems friendship.. omfg. and bom and her bf so cute. end was too angsty for me cuz like cute summer trip to murder case? too much… but other than that it was cute and i love the characters sm. cried a lot too. taught me a lot and motivated me. like yeorem finding her own life and just living life in the moment :))) so much about relationship dynamics and just so so sweet. minus the ew murder plot- 7.5 stars bc of that. i probs wouldn’t rewatch tho. not good enough too tbh

Give it a Chance:

This drama was like therapy for me. I can’t really explain it. It truly touched my heart and made me feel endless emotions. I went into it thinking it’d be lighthearted and similar to hometown cha cha cha. To my surprise the storyline is way deeper and in a lot of aspects darker. Each character is deeply complex. Usually kdramas have a habit of straying away from really dark topics and tend to be unrealistic. When watching you may think why is it so tragic ? But in reality it isn’t. What happens to every character is apart of the human experience and many issues they face are similar to the circumstances person face in their everyday life. This drama shows you the beauty of life, the ups and downs and all the moments in between. It teaches you that you’re going to have really dark moments that may seem to hard to overcome. But after every storm the sky clears and things become brighter once again. Life is a cycle that’s made up of all happy, sad, and scary moments. All of which is a part of the human experience. This drama certainly took on me an emotional rollercoaster and I’m so glad that I clicked on it on a random Saturday night.

Charming Premise, Disappointing Focus

Not everyone would define this drama as a comfort watch because it has many tense moments, as could already be guessed from the plot. I was disappointed by the romance; I was hoping it would play a bigger role and unfold differently. I did enjoy the chemistry between the two leads, and I’m sure many people will find that appealing.

I found the story of the girl who changes her life, moves to a small town, and meets the owner of a little library really charming. Unfortunately, I felt that the drama focused more on the mysterious town than on the main character and her life transformation. That’s what disappointed me the most; I was expecting a different kind of story. Maybe one or two additional episodes focusing on the romance would have helped make this a better k-drama.

A breath of fresh air

When I first read the Korean title I was like, "what in the Bruno Mars?? " and was curious what the story had to offer. I didn't expect the mystery in this at all, since it had more of a melodrama vibe (from the poster). A corporate worker decides to take a break but ends up quitting her job and moves out with no solid plan on what to do next, somehow ending up in a town and renting a place for cheap. Tbh, I was a bit jealous of her for her bold decision, but also saw her as very naive.
Overall, I loved it; library, introverts trying to figure out how to date, countryside, sense of community- the screenwriter made all these work together. If you love these, this will be a great and refreshing show to watch.

MY HEART IS FULL

This drama truly warmed my heart. I loved the sense of community among the villagers—it felt like one big family. I especially appreciated how they gradually accepted Yeoreum, the newcomer, into their lives. The character development throughout the drama was well done, making the relationships feel authentic and meaningful.

I really enjoyed the story. It tackled everyday life problems and family drama, yet it never became boring. The acting was also natural.

One detail I particularly liked was how Yeoreum repeated outfits a few times. It was a small touch, but it made her feel more realistic and relatable as a character.

❎What I disliked:
Bom’s father was an alcoholic, selfish, and abusive, yet the people around him seemed so quick to forgive, especially after what he did to Bom. The grandmother, while generally kind, was selfish in this situation. She was only thinking about herself, completely ignoring the fact that her grandchildren were suffering because of their father. His existence was more of a burden, and it was heartbreaking to see how it affected Bom and her sibling.

short, realistic, cozy

cozy small town vibes with all the elements of life and characters that you would expect from such a place. depressing at times, hopeful at others. peace and messages of being content in life, however it is, at times, stories of human anguish and tragedy at others.

watched only for shin eun soo - great job and very multidimensional character for her. really loved FL's acting and character too. she fits perfectly with the realistic plain vibe of everyday life the drama wanted to portray.

although i wish they focused more on her mental health and personal healing too (more than just her helping others through theirs) because the girl did go through some trauma. from work pressure to breakip to losing her mom and then moving to a small town where she was unwelcome at first, seeing death and losing people again. taking care of bom and her bro. all this plot though understandable wasn't very concise or clear. what happened to bom's father in the end i wonder. an alcoholic would always be one was that the message, or should it have been a stress point against drinking work culture and peer pressure to do so in thr country.

good and content ending ig. wish we could have seen more of the ml and the lead couple together. by the end i felt like i haven't really seen him all that much?

their relationship - the initial awkwardness, interactions, mannerisms, shy smiles - all veryy wholesome and realistic.

ofcourse there is a murder solving our lead sherlock couples undertake haha along with some high speed running and chasing 😂

Summer Strike: A Promising Start, But Lost in the Middle

When I started watching the drama, it seemed interesting. Its premise is similar to another K-drama "Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha" which I liked very much, so I was looking forward to it. This drama is about a girl who was overwhelmed and struggling with her current life and wanted to start anew. It is about self-discovery, healing and finding your happiness. The drama started out good with little sprinkles of romance, jealousy and potential love triangles, but soon went downhill. Here’s where things went awry:

- Too Many Tragedies: Bom and her family faced a relentless onslaught of misfortune. These tragedies, piled one upon another, disrupted the drama’s intended healing vibe. The ending for Bom’s grandmother and her father felt out of place in a story about finding happiness.

- Dismissal of Abuse: The drama’s handling of Bom’s father’s abuse towards her left a bitter taste. Excusing such behavior is inexcusable.

- Murder Mystery: The death of a character and the whole murder mystery was completely out of blue and felt forced. It did not add much to the drama in a positive sense.

- Missed Character Development: “Summer Strike” missed the mark on character-driven storytelling. This drama should have been about various people overcoming their troubles in life and finding their own version of happiness and we were left wanting.

In conclusion, the drama was good in the beginning but had many issues in the middle and later part of the show. While it’s watchable, I would hesitate to recommend it.

“We may fall at times but we are never defeated.“

A woman, pushed to the edge, decides to go on a life strike by travelling far away with a backpack and gains friends and family along the way.

What I Liked:
• Compelling initial scenario with healing vibes in a small-town setting.
• Strong acting performance throughout.
• Heartwarming family moments.
• Delivers meaningful depth of how one life can be slow and uneventful.

What I Disliked:
• Unexpected genre shift in the latter half.
• Plot development issues, especially with the secondary characters.
• Story complications felt forced.
• The murder mystery element felt unnecessary and could have had simpler alternatives.

Overall, a good watch.

A kdrama that has all my heart <3

One of my favorites <3

One of the best shows I've watched in a while

I have a very short attention span and get bored easily, so I thought I would drop this after the first two episodes but I was so wrong! I personally know what it feels like to burn out in a toxic environment and how your live can change drastically after someone close to you dies. The storyline was very similar and realistic to my experience yet somehow completely different, I liked that.
This show won't be peaceful from start to finish but! it IS worth it. Going through ups and downs in life is totally normal and I think everyone can relate to this show at some point.
The actors and actresses came off very genuine. They weren't cringy or insufferable to watch at all. I also liked how the two leads weren't pushed together romantically very quickly and rather formed their bond slowly. It was a great watch, especially for a hopeless romantic like me. I think a kiss scene after the 4th or 5th episode would have made me drop the show altogether.
Overall, I just love how this is a big fuck you to societal norms and expectations towards women (especially young women) and how we should all be perfect at everything we do. I've never had a chance to take a break from a situation like Yeoreum's but watching her summer strike really made me feel like I took a break as well, it was very refreshing. I think we should normalize not having big goals and living one day at a time. Pressuring people into doing stuff they aren't ready/don't want to do is just weird and unnecessary.
This show will always be very charming to me and I am always happy to rewatch it. If you're hesitant about watching, please give it a chance!

a beautiful and comforting show that i wish leaned a bit more into the romance

ohh how i loved this show until the end; the unexpected mystery murder plot really reeled me in and the characters are all so soft and loveable ♡

the lessons to be learned and the natural acting + appearances of said actors gave the whole show a very refreshing atmosphere.

the only reason its not higher rated is i was really yearning for more romance between the two leads by the end. it was being built up really well by the middle of the series, yet by the end i found myself wishing there was just... more of it
