Didn't watch first season? NO PROBLEM!!

BETTER THAN SEASON ONE!

Although this does have romance, the main focus isn't about it!

From the beginning of the first episode, it is filled with action, amazing humor, and amazing cast of characters!!

Really goes into details about the brotherly bond, friendships, and overall integrity of the whole theme!!

Great storyline as well, really could watch this season on its own~ But really makes you fall more in love with the mains from the last season. All the sides stories were heart wrenching and even the villians were entertaining and really played their part!

Also the music + songs were top tier !! Really got you in the moments of justice, sadness, and excitement!

A very enjoyable drama - whether you watched the first season or NOT! Recommend!

Time travel, mythical madness, and Lee Dong-wook roasting himself—what a damn good sequel !

"Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 : 8/10 – The Sequel That Outshined the Original in Every Damn Way"

🔥 WHY IT’S BETTER THAN IT HAS ANY RIGHT TO BE:
Lee Dong-wook unleashed – Gone is the brooding gumiho, enter the chaotic, petty, meme-worthy disaster fox we deserved.

The bromance of the century – Lee Dong-wook + Kim Bum = toxic yesteryear duo we can’t quit. Their chemistry eclipses the OG’s romance.

Action scenes that actually slap – No more PS2 CGI! Just raw, historical-fantasy fight choreography.

💥 THE "THIS IS HOW YOU DO A SEQUEL" MOMENTS:
The time-travel chaos – 1930s Korea meets mythical mayhem? Yes.

Kim Bum’s villain-to-reluctant-hero arc – More layers than an onion (and just as tear-inducing).

The dark humor – Lee Dong-wook roasting his past self? Chef’s kiss.

😤 THE "OKAY, FINE" FLAWS:
Still light on romance – But at this point, who cares? The bromance is the romance.

Some rushed lore dumps – "Here’s 500 years of backstory in 2 minutes!"

That one CGI tiger… Why.

🎯 VERDICT:
"Like the OG Tale went back in time, did steroids, and came back infinitely cooler." Watch if: You want mythology + madcap energy + Lee Dong-wook’s glorious smirk. Skip if: You need heavy romance (but seriously, why would you?).

It's comedy hours with gumihos!

An unexpected error leads Lee Yeon to time travel to 1938, where he reunites not only with his brother but also his past nemesis. Can Lee Yeon return to the present and his love before it’s too late?

Tale of the Nine-tailed 1938 is the first kdrama I watched as it aired, and LOL! It was the highlight of my weeks. The characters don’t take themselves too seriously, they’re always bickering, doing hijinks while being so stylish. The story is clear and entertaining, with a mission. There is slightly creepy demons, time-travel and rich retro-fantasy universe. I feel it’s a very light-heart watch, like watching anime.

I felt the pacing and the plot are significantly more tighter than the prequel, without compromising the characters set. I love the unbreakable brotherhood of Lee Yeon and Lee Rang. Despite their issues, they’re always there for each other, in good times and in crisis. Also, it was cute to see Lee Rang, who is manly and clueless about love, falls for the mermaid lady.

The finale part felt a little too chaotic with the climax involving so many battles in different places, but it does not take away the overall fun. If you're in for light, pure entertainment with very good styling and crisp cinematography, I highly recommend this!

A Captivating Blend of Action, Fantasy, and Compelling Storytelling

Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938 is a captivating series that mixes action, fantasy, and a well-crafted storyline. It has a really interesting time-travel plot, strong character growth, and impressive visuals. It surpasses its predecessor, with a more solid story. The funny moments add a nice balance, and the series does a great job of exploring the complex relationships between the characters.

The relationship between Lee Yeon and his brother, which plays a central role this season, is explored in a meaningful way, bringing depth and emotional impact to the story. The same can be said for his relationships with his two childhood friends. Additionally, it also builds on the love story from the first season, as Lee Yeon's determination to be with his loved one creates a more compelling dynamic than their actual relationship.

"How dare you bring seafood into our lineage?!" I'm dead!!! LMAO

I really LOVED and enjoyed this season!! i can't get enough of Lee Yeon and his dry humor. He's so silly but when he gets mad, he really shows how amazingly powerful he really is. The scene with past Lee Yeon thinking he's looking at his reflection in a mirror instead of future Yeon was priceless. And he reunites with Ji-ah in the last episode!! That was such a sweet moment and I couldn't help but smile at them and their sweet love. The story was fun and interesting and kept me glued to my seat the whole time. The funny moments are REALLY FUNNY!! But the sad ones were so sad, I cried a lot. I love that Rang found his love and Yeon was so sweet to gift him the rings and he was always patient and reassuring to Rang. I was so happy when he was able to fully embrace his power. And the shenanigans with Hongjoo trying to marry him and every time he brought his knowledge from the future into that era were hilarious. I could gladly go on and on, but I don't want to make this review longer than it already is. Lee Yeon's noises and faces in the background and every time he says "heh" are priceless. He is seriously the funniest. I just love Lee Dong-wook's acting range and his ability to go from one extreme to the other in 2 seconds. This man is not just a handsome face and hot body, he truly is TALENTED!!

Badass FL + Stunning ML = Satisfying Ending!

This is a BIMBIMBAP of a show. It's a mixed genre, mixed eras, mixed concepts of everything, LOL. Just name it, it's there,! But it's exactly why it backfires, a little.

It really hurts me to minus 0.5 out of 10 from this show, but I really can't stand the Yatchas! If I need that many zombie scenes, I'd be watching walking dead, I am here for the FOXES! I ended up skipping all the zombie scenes, despite Lee Rang being in it!

Other than that, all is good! I love the plot twists and the happy surprises. My favorite? Lee Rang's sweet romance! Our baby fox is now dating! Also, love how he awakened fully as gumiho towards the end!

Needless to say, I love Lee Yeon + Lee Rang's brotherhood. It makes me cry each time, their acting is SO GOOD!

It's a rare show where I actually love all of the characters (beside the evil ones, lol)...

I love our Jindo!! He's my new favorite, and of course, all the FLs are badass!

Finally, a show where the FLs do not need to be saved!

We've a mix of woman empowerment of FLs + eyecandy of handsome MLs, what else can we ask for?

Perfect sequel

I absolutely loved "Tale of the nine tailed" season 1 so when I found out a season 2 was coming, I was really excited. Especially when I found out it was set in the past. But even though I was excited to see what this new season had to offer, I never expected to love it so much, In fact, I never expected to love a sequel as much as the original season.
Tale of the nine tailed 1983 is hilarious! I enjoyed every moment. It was also very emotional and the finale when Yeon fought the villan was just perfect in everyway. I also loved the setting. The antique, fancy vibe was very pleasing and pretty to watch.

The plot of this season is just amazing. It perfectly mixes together many different genres and plot points and also expands a lot on the things we learned in season 1. I know the time travel trope to catch the thief or a magical object was pretty cliche but it was worth it to see Yeon back in time. Firstly, even though I loved Yeon and Ji Ah's romance in season 1, it kind of seemed like she was the only person who truly mattered to Yeon. Yes I know he cared a lot for his brother, Shin Ju and even the old hag but at the end of the day, Yeon's whole purpose in life was to search for his love and he spent 600 years doing this. It felt like his life was purely dedicated to only her and even though I thought they were great together, I wish we saw more of Yeon besides his love for Ji Ah and this season perfectly gave that. In this season, we got to see Yeon without Ji Ah, We were introduced to his old friends, got to see more of his relationship with Rang and learned more about his childhood. It felt very nostalgic and beautiful to see him reconnect with his childhood best friends and it added many more amazing characters. We got to meet other mountain spirits and saw many more magical items.

I also love the Japanese colonial period setting. I know many people think its too controversial but since I never knew much about it before watching this drama, I was very intrigued. i think it added a great side plot and it made the drama feel more diverse and interesting because besides Korean they also added Japanese actors and characters and that felt cool to me because I never really watched and Japanese dramas before.
And of course, I loved seeing Yeon and Rang bond. I know their ending in season 1 was very touching, but it didnt quite feel enough. To see Yeon and Rang truly grow to love eachother and look out for eachother in this season was really fun because they spent most of season 1 fighting. I loved seeing their brotherly love and the way they were always there for eachother.
Rang and the mermaid were really cute together too, Im glad he finally gets a romance plot!

The actors are as always, perfect. Lee Dong Wook keeps impressing me. He's perfect as Lee yeon, there's something about his face and his acting that just feels so unreal and magical. perfect for a mountain spirit!
The actors for Hong Ju and Moo Yeong were both new to me but they were also perfect in their roles, and of course Kim Beom was as amazing as ever.

The OST's were just as good as season 1. I loved all the songs and music in this drama, especially the OST they played whenever showing flashbacks of Yeon's past with his friends. It was very nostalgic and sweet.

I keep rewatching this drama and I have not a single complaint about it! I love the ending too. I was sad that Yeon would have to leave, but the past version of himself taking his place really made it feel like a perfect ending.
So basically, this season is a must watch! I love everything about it. Its very different from season 1, but in the best way. 10/10!!

I mostly love that we got a happy ending for 1938 Rang

A lot of wholesome moments in this series. Their brotherhood is incredible and I was overwhelmed with emotions, I was even shaking when Rang was crying in Yeon's arms...
I loved how Yeon was able to mend and restore his relationship with his childhood friends and helped Rang settle down and find love...
I was overwhelmed with emotions cause the drama was so good. I loved the bromance, the story and the characters, everything was well done.
It's been a while since I was so satisfied and happy with an ending.
I'm definetely looking forward to their season 3.

This was nothing short of perfect!!

This season was more like an adventure and everything fell perfectly in its place to create an entertaining drama.
Storyline : 10/10
Character built-up : 1000/10
Comic Timing : 100/10
Villains : 10/10
Action : 11/10
Music : 10/10
They gave a fascinating twist to the fight for independence and bringing in Japanese gods was also fun to watch. Also, the fact that all main cast and supporting roles got proper screen time, depth, and character development was flawless. I have nothing but only good to say for Tale of the Nine-Tailed 1938.
Everyone did a great job in this series. ❤️🙌

THIS SHOW CAN'T BE BETTER!!!

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!! This drama is so freaking good. I really just can't explain in words. Everything from the beginning to the episode I'm currently watching (I had written this review when I was still watching it), you know it's still on-air so yeah, I can't judge its ending but goddamn! The fighting scenes are FUCKING DOPE!!! LIT AS FIRE!!! Broooooooooo, Lee Yeon is so damn hot in this season, I mean hotter than the previous season, he has red hair and goshhh!!! The way he fights, smirks and wins everytime, a new side has been unlocked, his fun side. He is so strong btw and if we start talking about the new characters like first, Hong Joo! God, this woman literally won this show, she's so powerful and smart that omg, and I love her obsession for Lee Yeon and the actress who's playing her role is such a good actress, I must say and goddamn the way she fights, I love her powers and her fashion sense too. Now, the kind of villain, Moo Myeong, I like his power like he says, "fire" and it starts burning, other than that I don't like him, huh. Now, about Lee Rang, I really hope that somehow or anyhow, he stays alive in the present too, I hope that some magic happens and he comes alive, he literally deserves the world. His entries are really worth it, remember in season 1, when he transformed when he came back after meeting Ji-Ah and this season when he comes to save Lee Yeon from Moo Myeong in the created world of the tiger, he's so hot but I must say that I didn't expect his love story, I'm more interested in the bromance between Lee Yeon and Lee Rang because they are almost always bickering, I really love them. But that mermaid scene when she comes to save Lee Rang from those invisible fighters, it legit gave me goosebumps, I was like- yeah she deserves him but when they kissed, I felt off-key like I really wasn't anticipating this nor I would want that. Anyway, I like the trio they formed this season, showing friendship thing but Idk what will happen next, I feel like something is gonna go wrong for at least the next 1 or 2 episodes, but the fact that Lee Yeon is so funny this season makes me laugh fr. But I am missing Jo Bo-Ah so much, I really hope she comes for at least 5 or 6 minutes, just a guest role will do but please come soon. Lee Yeon is literally incomplete without his Ji-Ah :(
Well, It's still on-air so, let's wait more but I must talk about some of its big plot like the one when Lee Yeon went blind and he had to fight with some thugs in the garden of Myoyeongak, goddamn!!! It was legit impressive, he could not see but the way he fought, goddamn, even with eyes he could not fight like that and Hong Joo tried to distract him by turning on the music but the way he ended everything right there, TERRIFIC! Even if I'm watching this right before my end-sems, I still don't regret it because it actually deserves my all. And yesssssss!!! That scene from the parlour when people were turning into worms, when Lee Yeon and Lee Rang came to join in for work and showed how handsome they were and the old ladies were going crazy, I was like, "same-ahjummaaa-sameee". They are so good TT.
The FINALE is soooooo damn good, like OH MY GOD!! It's been so long since I finished it so I can't exactly pour my thoughts completely here but guess what, I still haven't deleted the last episode of it as It's so good, I loved it so much and I still love it. I've put it as my most favourite k-drama now, Idk, leave everything, this is the best one out there. Personally, my favourite characters are Lee Yeon and Hong Joo, I love them so much. Lee Yeon's brain and his powers then Hong Joo's beauty and strength. Both of them are brilliantly powerful and amazing. And the very godly moment of Lee Rang when he awakened all his powers, MY GOD!!! OMG OMG OMG!! This whole show got me screaming, throwing my hands in the air and smash bed everytime and each episode is so good and even the last episode is left on the brick of some curiosity about the original mountain god. Well, I just wanna say that I love this show so much and yeah that scene, how could I forget to mention about it here, when Lee Yeon used all his powers to kill the mountain god of Japan, MY GOD GOD!!! That scene was epic, I love Lee Yeon for that. Well, with that, I'd like to end it here and say that everything about this whole show was amazing and I'm glad that they let Ji-Ah show up finally in the end of the finale episode. Thank you so much, Tale of the nine-tailed 1938, I enjoyed every second watching it.

Amazing

Honestly i havent watched the first season, i saw a few clips and werent that enthused by the premise of it nor the acting of the main FL BUT my friend kept telling me to watch this season and that its okay if i haven't watched the first and honestly im so happy i did its SO SO good.

You honestly dont need to have watched the first season to watch this one, i LOVED the friendships, the dynamics of all the characters and the acting was *chefs kiss*

And im a BIG fan of dramas that reference the korean resistance and how they fought and succeeded against their occupation (im palestinian lol) so I loved that input too 🥹

Overall vwry wholesome, humour was amazing, acting was amazing and it also had a well rounded ending too!
