it's okay to watch but keep your expectations aside
think that it has a mixed reviews. I personally appreciate the intense action, deeper storylines, and new characters, while I also criticize it for being less thrilling and original than the first season. I praise its layered storytelling but also highlighting flaws like underdeveloped characters and repetitive plotlines. A noticeable editing mistake and a casting controversy have also sparked discussions. Overall, it's worth watching for fans, but expectations should be tempered. and what about the end actually it doesn't have an end right. I was literally thinking that there might be more episodes because it doesn't made any sense, we waited a long for this ending no right. and we had many emotional connections in season 1 but here it's just like a game I mean its happening in real life right how can they be okay by seeing those blood river it just feel like they are not first in the game.I think I personally believe season 1 was the best ahgh!! hope we can get a season 3 the bessttt!!!!!!!Was this review helpful to you?
Could not replicate the hype of the OG but a Decent season overall
---------HYPE
---------
I think its fair to say that looking at the kind of popularity that the first season of Squid game received, this season should have been one of the most anticipated and hyped seasons coming out in 2024. But on the contrary, there was no hype at all and Netflix shot at their own legs by choosing to release only 7 episodes and the rest in 2025.
The number of episodes is the prime reason that everyone who watched the show thinks that this season was unnecessary and serves just as a setup or bridge for the final season.
I also have mixed feelings about the show but unlike others I thought this was a decent one time watch and was not unnecessary at all.
---------
ISSUES
----------
1) From a narrative point of view it was almost impossible to generate the same amount of shock as season 1 as last time we viewers, were unaware about the deadly nature and themes of the game. They added some elements to give some shock to the audience but IMAO they did not work.
2) Also what did not work again was Wi HaJoon (the cop) 's character. I am really surprised that just like last season in which people were annoyed by the useless subplot of the cop trying to find his brother, the writer did not course correct and is still hanging on this plot thread which is at this point going nowhere. Unless they deliver some mindblowing payoff in the final season, I think they have utterly wasted someone as talented and promising as Wi Ha Joon.
3) Again I think the big star studded cast particularly Kang Ha Neul, Yim Si Wan, Lee Jin Wook and T.O.P were underutilized. They are such good actors and I could not understand why cast such big stars for minor roles, not giving them enough footage or character development. All of them are just there. The writing and killing of characters in season 1 was top notch if you compare with this season.
4) Anyone reading this will think if I am a psychopath but I think there were not enough named character deaths this season. I know partly thats because we are in the middle of the games that are yet to conclude but still thats one of the turn off for me this season. Last season we were on the edge of our seats, getting fond of the group around the ML and then feeling shock and despair at the death of them one by one. This season a whole bunch of new characters were introduced but only a few died and even their deaths except for one in particular had zero emotional impact on me.
-------------------
WHAT I LIKED
-------------------
1) The first episode with Gong Yoo was terrific and I absolutely loved his performance. Had the director utilized the acting potential of some of the other star actors like him, this would have been a completely different show.
2) Lee Jung Jae and especially Lee Byung Hun were both really good as expected from veteran actors like them. Waiting for a epic showdown between those in the finale.
3) The new games were really interesting although not better than the one showcased in season 1 but still in some moments I felt anxious and cared for the lives of some of the characters.
4) I won't spoil the character played by Park Gyu Young, but I think they are cooking something good with her. Hopefully she is given some more attention in next season.
------------
OVERALL
-------------
Overall a decent one time watch which acts as a setup for final season but pales in comparison with the itself overhyped season 1.

Just watch it. It's not that bad.
It's not as bad as people claiming it to be.If you have been watching Korean dramas, then you'll be fine.
But if not, and you are just watching this for the hype of S1 then you'll be a bit disappointed.
S2 is a bit watered down version of S1.
I would say S1 was gruesome. It was so brutal. In fact they It revealed the vicious nature of humans. Games were much more dramatic in S1 and were the main focus of the drama. And the world had never seen a drama like this.
But things have changed a bit now. Now we are in 2025. Kdramas are more popular now. We have seen these gruesome type dramas popping up here and there, like Sweet home, Parasite the grey, Gyeonseong creature, Moving, Shop for killer etc. So S2 was not that sensational since people are familiar with the recipe.
Compared to S1 games S2 games were not that dramatic. Games were not the main focus of the drama at all. It even starts with the familiar game Red light green light. And we only played 3 games within the 7 episodes. So there's much less thrill to the audience. And we're are left a cliffhanger for the grand finale.
What's there is more background information. What was ML upto? What was JunHo doing? etc. S2 also has some stories to tell. There's even a storyline of a Mask Guard as well. Also the main storyline progress and we have more screen time with front man ever before.
So there's some stuff to watch and enjoy.
You can wait till S3 is released to watch this season. That was my plan as well. But there are too many spoilers on the internet. So before it's too late I just watched it. Still 8/10 drama.

Lost opportunity
If S2 had been more about philosophy and morality aka humanism and less about bloodbathing that would have been great for the reputation of k-drama. Since this is likely what most people not familiar with k-dramaworld would still watch.I liked the first 2 episodes. Lee Jung Jae's and Wi Ha Joon's characters searched for game organizers and teamed up. Gong Yoo again made a memorable appearance. So, just like in the 1st season everything that came before and after the games was more interesting than the actual games. The suspense from the games was the unpleasant kind that made me want to skip those parts. (But in principle, if I watch I watch and don't skip).
Lee Jung Jae and Lee Byung Hun are such epic actors that I watched mainly for their sake. Im Siwan and Kang Ha Neul made an impression even with smaller roles. Thanos and the shaman were just irritating.
The main issues with S2: why keep this from airing so long and then leave the ending open. Just 2 episodes more would have been enough to wrap it all up. This way the plot holes were immense. If the plot holes are filled up in S3 it's all too late bc we won't remember or care that much. This was the chance they had to make something really worthwhile and they blew it with the open ending.
Open questions and complaints
- why did Gi Hun keep the prize money in his basement (likely to get stolen) instead of using it to save lives? He could have given it anonymously for those in need or a children's hospital. That would have been the best redemption for those who died in the game.
- As Gi Hun wanted to save lives, getting soldiers and fellow competitors shot was not really logical. He could have shot down the money and the killing would have been avoided.
- Gi Hun didn't tell the competitors that when teaming up they would also die as teams.
- The best way for this to end would have been that In Ho would have turned around and stopped the game. Since he got to know his fellow competitors as humans and not just characters in screen.
- why did the players not discuss the possibility that the organizers could never let them get out alive bc that would make the game become public knowledge.
- if S2 had been more about morals and philosophy and less about bloodbathing that would have been great for the reputation of k-drama. Since this is likely what most people not familiar with kdramaworld would still watch.

A Bridge for Something Bigger
Squid Game Season 2 returns with a stellar cast that carries the drama, but the series feels more like a setup for future installments rather than a standalone knockout. The performances are gripping, and the emotional weight behind each character is undeniable, but the narrative leans heavily on familiar territory, making it feel repetitive and predictable. The shock factor that turned Squid Game into a global phenomenon is noticeably muted, with twists that, while intriguing, lack the same jaw-dropping intensity. As the season builds to its conclusion, the sense of inevitability overshadows any hope for real change. The ending, while thought-provoking, feels almost too predictable – reinforcing the idea that cowards will always be cowards and that even the boldest efforts are ultimately futile. There’s a lingering sense that no matter how hard the characters fight, someone is always watching, manipulating the game from behind the curtain. It’s a bleak commentary on power and control, painting life as a relentless cycle that drags everyone back to the same grim status quo. No matter how invested I am, this leaves me with a hollow sense of resignation and a bitter aftertaste.
More than anything, the finale feels like a preparation for Season 3, setting the stage rather than delivering a definitive conclusion. Loose threads are left dangling, and while the narrative teases at greater rebellion or deeper conspiracies, the lack of resolution leaves the impression that the real payoff lies ahead. The unrelenting lust for money and power remains at the heart of the story, with those at the top continuously exploiting the system to further their control. While this thematic repetition mirrors the series’ core message – the brutal, unforgiving nature of survival in a rigged system – it leaves viewers with a sense of frustration rather than shock. The finale hints at future battles, but the lack of catharsis or meaningful disruption to the system makes the season feel like a loop rather than a step forward. It’s engaging enough to keep viewers hooked, but it leaves you waiting for that next real game-changer – if it ever comes.

Expectations are High
To be honest, I usually skip scenes that tends not go along with the storyand I did that on the squid games sequel,
the 2nd season has some powerful casts that was not utilized on the story, there are some new cast as well
character progression was focused on season 1 characters and not much on the game it self.
may be they used the doll because it was a huge success on season 1, the new game was the carousel, that was new
may be season 3 can answer some of the missing piece on the characters.
hopefully season 3 has a good progression on the characters and the story,
the thrill was gone, the magic went alive on the carousel game, but most of the 7 episode is just a bridge for season 3.

it's not only as disappointed as other ppl say!!
I binged watch it in one day, do i regret it? No wayy (SPOILER ALERT)Like most people here (i guess) i liked the season 1 more and i honestly understand those who didn't enjoy the 2nd one BUT i still should talk about the positive aspects/points of this second season because not everything was bad and there were still a lot of positives things to say about this new season :
- THE CAST?? dude look at the actors we got here, it is INSANE like??
- the mother and her son : THEY WERE THE CUTEST i loved them sm and the way they wanted to protect each other all the time, their interactions.. i was so scared that one of them was gonna die
- the mother (again lol i loved her sm) : SHE CARED FOR EVERYONE she was so cute especially with jun hee (izone ykyk) and hyun ju hopefully she'll stay alive..
- the purple hair guy when he was taking his drugs LMAOO?? he was in his own world.. look at him during the carousel game he was so funny with his bud
- the overhaul games : i think it is so cool that they kept the red light, green light one AND THAT they changed the other ones
--> the 6th legs game was so fun, everyone was cheering each other and we got numerous small games instead of one and i really enjoyed it (when they arrived at the end and everyone was screaming and cheering i was SO HAPPYYY)
--> the carousel game (dont remember the name) : it was stressing me out?? i was so scared for them help BUT I LOVE THIS KIND OF SENSATION (like in season 1)
- it might be bc i love both of them but i wanna know more about myeong gi and jun hee bc they were kinda cute (despite their small screentime) like the way he cared for her at the beginning and the way SHE cared for him at the end.. nah they're cute
- the game master playing 001?? i loved it and i loved how he was acting like a real player + the kind of plot twist at the end.. idk what to expect for the next episodes but i love when not everything doesn't go as planned)
- the characters : even tho i didn't have enough time to get attached to the characters (yk bc of the fact that the game started later than in the season 1 + there were only 7 episodes + the plot was different than in the first season) there are still some of them that i loved and i hope we'll get to see them more in the "3rd" season
- WE GOT THE POV OF THE MASKED PPL?? AND THE ONE PLAYING IT IS MY GIRL GYU YOUNG?? omgggg they gave us what we asked forr 🙏
there are still lots of good things to say about this season but i dont want it to be too long
don't forget that everyone should have their own opinions, don't get influenced bu what other ppl say 💗🫶 u can either like or not, it is YOUR choice, YOUR opinion see yall for season 3 yay

Enjoyble second season
This was an enjoyable second season. The pacing was good but slower in episodes. 2 -3).Many people are saying this was a filler season, but I disagree. This was a build-up season, and for me, it worked well. I want to watch season 3.
The story will continue to season 3, I hope we can get more from the new characters. The one point I disliked was how badly the rebellion was planned, I wish we could have seen more before the end of the season.
The new cast did well overall - I liked Park Sung Hoon's performance the most, Yuri, Siwan and the mother did amazing too.
I didn't enjoy T.O.P performance too much, sometimes it was too over the top.
The music did work well was season one, some of the choices did generate the right vibe.
I will probably watch one more time since I binge-watched it. I want to catch more details.

it's not that i's bad, it's just that it could've been sooo much better.
1. some actors (and even famous and experienced ones) were so off.. the 'funny' gangster, TOP, Lee Jin Wook, Park Gyu Young and even Park Haneul.. maybe they added too many characters and they all wanted to shine.. they tried to add too much personality in little time and it was just too much. Gong Yoo was great though2. voting got tiring. if you're releasing only 7 eps and plan to show much more side stories and povs, how about not repeating things ?
3. games are less interesting. the only moment I was really excited during the whole show was when the outcasts (girls and old lady) were in that group game and everyone was cheering for them (I was also cheering from home). to me this was the highlight of this season.
4. what was the game leader doing there? did it add anything to the plot? we already knew who he was, and he wasn't charismatic enough to make us care about him nor he managed to create a strong bond with the other characters to make the treason a shock.. bad and unnecessary idea that took space from the main plot.
as a whole, this felt less natural and human. they just threw a lot of different characters and stories at us, so we didn't connect with anyone. it felt very amateur.. :(

Had potential but lack cinematography
Obviously as everyone I was very excited to see the season but as soon as it's started in the continuation of the story it filter little bit odd because does first story line was not connecting for me at all but later on when it started getting connected to each other it was good but I thought it would have ended but it did not end the story. But they are acting was unmathable it was too good that I was very immersed in the series mainly the acting of gong yoo had me .
As the first season the story revolves around the game who made it what they are going to do what could be the next step about it and the person who is finding his brother that was also could not happen because he was lying most of the time about his brother that needed not saw the maskman but overall the story line was good many actors added and I think it was same as the first season like they are was difference for sure in the games in the story line but again I could not match that much.

Worth the wait, great performances, excited for season 3
I don't get the hate, I really don't. Reading through the reviews I'm sorry a good number just miss the mark. I knew there would be a large segment that would trash this season no matter what. But all these reviewers binged it within two days? Interesting. The performances were great. These were the standouts for me:
Park Sung Hoon - I would never imagine a trans storyline with this much heart and depth. What other movie or tv show represents that experience better? Perhaps an appearance of this character triggered people? Into the Deep is one of my favorites.
Lee Byung Hyun - having him participate was thrilling. His interplay with Lee Jung Jae was incredible.
Park Gyu Young - having a character with the perspective of a guard was great. Her scenes were intense.
The Misaeng boys - Im Si Wan playing an unlikeable crypto shyster and Kang Ha Neul as vulnerable who had to project strength was great.
Gong Yoo - just superb.
T.O.P. - I didn't listen to Korean music during his Big Bang days. But I knew his appearance would be polarizing and he'd get undeserved hate. The netizens are already fast at work with the trash sites giving them even more of a platform. He's a scene stealer and you can't take your eyes off him. Note: he's supposed to be annoying and over the top, that's his character. A failed rapper strung out on drugs. Come on guys. Was he supposed to play it as someone likable? It was a believable portrayal. Congratulations to you if you dont have to deal with anyone annoying like this in your life, but that's not reality. I thought he was excellent.
Don't let the reviews(of which everyone binged within a couple days) stop you from watching it. I loved it and thought it was a lot better than season 1.

Enjoyed the fun ride so muchhhh
While some may find the second season slightly less captivating than the first, I believe it's an equally impressive achievement. The masterful reveal of the antagonist's true identity and their constant shifting allegiances throughout the game create a thrilling and unpredictable narrative. The lack of poignant moments compared to the first season is noticeable, but the series still effectively delivers on its premise and leaves viewers craving more. The second season deserves a perfect 10/10 score for its innovative writing, engaging gameplay, and ability to keep me hooked until the very end.
