In 1942, Arisawa Maki and Noshiro Koji are engaged, but tragedy strikes when Koji’s older brother, Ichiro, dies in the war. Koji is forced to marry Ichiro’s widow, Asami, while Maki is wed to Koji’s younger brother, Daisuke. Despite having children with their respective spouses, Maki and Koji begin an affair. Enraged by suspicion, Daisuke sets fire to the mansion, killing Koji. Years later, their children, Natsuo and Hideaki, unknowingly fall in love, drawn together by fate.
