How have I not watched this sooner??
So. I might be in love. This is my first time watching a reality TV series from Korea, and while it's vastly different from the ones I'm used to (mainly Drag Race, Big Brother and Love Island), my God is it entertaining to watch.
Above all, I think the cast is absolutely perfect. They are so loveable and genuine and they look like they enjoy spending time together. They're also so different and unique and bring different talents to the table, which I enjoyed when watching them perform. They're sincere in their emotions, care for each other, and earnestly try to do better not only as individuals, but as a group - I really appreciated that.
The music is GREAT. Man, I've never been a kpop stan, but I'll be adding a lot of these songs to my playlist lol. And the choreos are super intense and engaging, and the camera work during the performances really adds to the dynamism that they exude.
Lastly, I had so. Much. Fun. I've laughed a lot watching this series, and that NEVER happens. Shows like Drag Race never hit the spot for me, that type of humor is not my style at all - but it wasn't the case here. The reactions were great. Maybe they were a little bit over the top at times, but hey, that's reality TV for ya. I'll be quoting 'You're a BIRD' and 'Take me home tonight- gimme gimme' for the rest of my life, thanks.
I've seen other reviewers mention the production company, the voting system and the editing. Being relatively new to this genre of reality TV, I honestly cannot speak on this because I didn't even know Mnet existed until like a week ago. The voting system didn't really bother me, to be honest. At first I thought it was going to be excessively unfair to the G team, but it ended up being quite balanced in the end. I have to admit, though, that some trainees were eliminated when they shouldn't have been (I'll never get over Jay nor Haruto I'm sorry), and others stayed around for an astonishingly long time (Takuto was super cute, but let's be honest, what did he even excel at?? How the hell did he get through the first round?).
The editing I did notice. The repetition and constant replays were a little bit annoying at times, and I get that they were trying to get everyone's reactions, but maybe it's not needed to hear the same fucking audio bit back to back like five times?? And I also didn't like how they left out a LOT of performances. One of the trainees called them out on this in one of the songs and honestly, I felt so bad for him (and others). Imagine working so hard and then finding out that you're not even onscreen for three fourths of the episode. I think this could be solved by either 1) reducing the number of trainees at the beginning, so that everyone can be onscreen, or 2) having longer episodes / more episodes.
But yeah. This was a great watch. I'll be watching 103227 edits of the series for the next three months, if anyone's looking for me. I'm hoping for a season 2 but idk if it's ever gonna happen.

My favourite survival show
Personally, Boys Planet really never left my heart. It’s the best survival show and the final lineup is good. Zerobaseone being my ult group still tells a lot. There were so many contestants that deserved to debut honestly, and I’m glad they had the chance to debut in other groups. It was heartwarming to see the contestants looking so at ease and comfortable with eachother, but we never really know what happens behind the camera. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the votes were rigged, honestly. I had a fun time watching this, rewatched it 2 times. It’s a comfort show to me.
The music (original and covers) were so good, genuinely, from survival shows I didn’t expect the performances to really wow me. They lived up to expectation.
The judges were okay, I’d say. Nobody was too harsh, in my eyes, and I feel like they knew what they we’re doing most of the time.
Overall, I would recommend watching it if yiu’re a fan of survival shows, and check out Zerobaseone’s music!

Loved it but spoilers ruined it for me
Was absolutely obsessed, however it got spoiled for me so I dropped it :( I also watched it on Viki Rakuten, and I hated the ads so much. Additional little bit, I feel like K-Group was favoured so much more than G-Group. I know it's to be expected since Mnet is a Korean company, however it's a survival show, and there needs to be somewhat even playing ground y'know? Also when they said 'Global' I expected a lot for global than other asian countries and america lol, I expected Australians and British people too, and maybe the rare non-asian, but the Global group was mostly asian countries with some American folk here and there. Either way, I absolutely loved it, and I listen to all of the contestants who have joined other groups or become soloists! Also a lot of the idols on Boys Planet have instagram so I follow them there too :D Cha Woongki is especially entertaining. Was this review helpful to you?

Interesting editing… but entertaining nonetheless
Okay how did Keita not debut?! Like he was in the top 9 like the entire time- what happened guys? 😭Also Jay not debuting was so disappointing.
I would never replace any one of the zb1 members now, but I was pretty shocked that suddenly Ricky made the top 9 in the last episode, and not even the bottom of top 9! He really surprised! I mean, congratulations to him but I was not expecting him to beat some of the others. Love Ricky though he’s so funny! I’m glad people saw how talented he is!
I mean, I watched this show after already knowing zb1, so I knew who was gonna debut, but still the rankings surprised. I did not watch boys planet when it was airing and had no idea who they were when I unironically saw them live barely even a month after their debut. I must say, I wish I knew them back then too lol.
This show really made me try to hate Matthew- like what was that editing. I feel so bad for him- I feel like he never got the positions he wanted even though he’s so talented. Although I have to admit that his French in the first episode gave me second hard embarrassment 😂. In Canada you are required to take French class in school, but they really don’t teach you that much, especially when it comes to grammar. Ah I’m glad Matthew debuted though!
Also, the entire show was literally just Hao and Hanbin being so obviously gay for each other (not actually, but u know what I mean). Like I can’t even defend them for what happened during the show. I liked the part when they were doing that musical thing and the hosts were like ‘already now we’re gonna give u time to find a partner and u have to hold their hand when you find one’ and then Hao and Hanbin instantly grabbed each other’s 😂. I swear like every time the camera panned to them they were holding hands lmao. I didn’t expect them to be so attached to each other during the show, like I had heard things about them on the show but didn’t think it was this obvious. Hopefully they remain close (friends…?) in the future, even if zb1 don’t renew their contract (😭😭😭).
I quite liked this show, despite the editing and ofc the rigged parts. Like how did Rui get eliminated before the final?! He was no doubt one of the best dancers on the show. I would have definitely voted for him. Luckily he got to preform Over me and I still actively listen to it.
Hao beating Hanbin in the end was so wholesome though! He really deserved it.
If you like zb1, you should definitely watch this show it’s a must! But just be warned that it’s kinda obvious who the members are gonna be right off the bat.

Zerobaseone origin story
Overall 9/10🌟🌟🌟🌟✨
I don't even know where to start...
This was my first survival show and I watched it although I knew the final line up! Nonetheless, EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL. Guys this was one heck of a ride... You need to make sure to have tissues ready for each episode if you are an emotional person like me. I was not able to get through a single episode without crying at some point. The hardwork and effort you see from the trainees... Beautiful! Each elimination round got me super emotional but nothing tops the finale. (I watched the finale in 3 parts...ahaha but still managed to cry each time.) I am so proud of my boys Zerobaseone and I love them so so much!!
I cannot give this show a higher score purely because of emotional damage lol and I can't give it lower because it was such an investing program.)
Would only recommend if you are willing to watch 2+ hours episode and go through emotional rollercoasters!🥰

LOVE ZEROBASEONE
I watched boys planet after falling in love with ZB1, and the show everyone talked about did not disappoint. The contestants were amazing and the songs were so enjoyable. Even the vocals were live. Jay Chang is one of my favorite vocalists. The filler episodes were also so fun and stress-free. The only thing about this survival show that was bad was the evil editing. FXCK MNET!Was this review helpful to you?

Is this Mnet?
To my surprise, there has been little evil editing, to the point it doesn't make anyone unlikable. This is not typically Mnet. They also show the performance how it is without weird camera angles or too much autotune (yes I've seen korean talent shows with obvious autotune...). Keep in mind I haven't seen Girls planet or Produce 101, so I can't compare it to that.
I hoped all the auditions would've been shown in the first episode, that's a bummer.
I'm happy the judges are experienced and rightious while also being funny and a little loose.
I'm actually looking forward to the next episode (which I wasn't with I-land for example)
