If you have not watched much of Chinese xianxia fantasy dramas, you should absolutely watch this.

YanDan and ZhiXi were the human transformation of and the only surviving members of the Four-leaves Lotus which had great medicinal value. YanDan had a tiff with the Heavenly Lord YingYuan, God of War when she discovered that he had been bullying a turtle in the garden, flipping him over every time he saw it. Unfortunately she was sent to serve him in his palace.

A war broke out between the immortals and the demons. It was a bloody war and YingYuan returned seriously wounded although victorious. YingYuan knew that he was not going to survive and left his palace to die alone in the forest, so that he would not harm anyone when he went crazy. Fate had it that YanDan would find him already blinded in the forest and nursed him while hiding her real identity. She found out that the heart of the Four-leaves Lotus, of which she was one, would save him and decided to carve out half of her heart to do so. YingYuan knew this healing method earlier and had resisted it.

The immortal realm had a rule that immortals were not fall in love. Breaking this rule brought about severe punishment. Unfortunately for YingYuan and YanDan, the jealous fairy YingDeng who wanted YingYuan for herself was always around to sabotage them. To save YanDan from punishment, YingYuan had to play along very often with the scheming fairy YingDeng to stop her from spilling the truth about them. Part 1 of the drama continued onto Part 2.

I am surprised that Part 1 was rated better than Part 2, although I think Part 2 was more interesting after YanDan was banished to the mortal realm. She forgot who she was and called herself Bai Piao Liang.

Part 1 was very stale and more of the same to me. It was too much like the Ashes of Love where Yang Zi (YanDan) was the female lead, Love and Redemption where ChengYi (YingYuan) was the male lead and some of the earlier Chinese xianxia (fairytale) fantasy dramas. The moods, settings, some scenes and even the title of the drama were too much like these earlier dramas. For example YanDan crossing the WangChuang (River to Forget) reminded me of Ji Mi (Yang Zi) crossing the river to the demon realm to visit Xu Feng (DengLun) in Ashes of Love. There was also a jealous love rival who actively sabotaged - Sui He in Ashes of Love and YingDing in this drama. Part 1 was very emotional but did nothing much for me as it was mainly about one of the lover pretending and pushing away the other while one of them clinged on, so the chemistry between them was almost non-existent. Similarly the character Si Feng in Love and Redemption was always pushing away Xuan Ji - a similar situation of forbidden love. It was draggy, and all about deceit and hiding the truth - a lot of them were very annoying to me.

When the other party pushed one away, one should learn to move on, especially when so little was committed from the other person, regardless whether they reciprocated in their hearts and said nothing.

I will continue with my assessment in Part 2 for the rest of the drama.

However, if you have not watched Ashes of Love and much of Chinese xianxia fantasy dramas, or like to re-live those stories, you will enjoy this drama tremendously. A good drama to get you introduced to the world of Chinese fantasy dramas.

Not deep, just a good time.

This is a very enjoyable series if you're looking to turn your brain off and just have a good time, and I mean this in a positive way. I honestly enjoyed it a lot just vibing along and not taking the plot too seriously.

In terms of technical things like story/cinematography/script/editing/etc. it's extremely average (not terrible, I've definitely seen worse). If you're in here expecting something fresh or groundbreaking, you will be disappointed.

For me the enjoyment comes mainly from the 3 main characters (Yan Dan, Ying Yuan, Yu Mo). All 3 roles were well acted, I didn't find their characters annoying (yes, Yang Zi has played very similar roles before, but honestly she's quite good at it), and their interactions with each other are super fun to watch, especially when they are in the human realm and all kinds of shenanigans are happening. Even though both men are in love with the same woman they don't let that get in the way of working together or make things difficult for the FL. The FL also doesn't cause unnecessary drama that break up their 3-person team. It's clear by the end of the drama that their camaraderie is a core part of the drama that the writing team purposely kept intact to the very end.

As for the romance, the main romance (Ying Yuan and Yan Dan) is nothing to write home about story-wise, but very enjoyable because the actors are charismatic and good at what they do, and they look great doing it. I highly recommend fans of Yang Zi and/or Cheng Yi watch this because they're just a joy to watch (especially fans of Cheng Yi because it's fascinating seeing him play 3 characters in one show).

The Feels of Ashes & Love and Redemption

I have been waiting for a long time to binge-watch a xianxia. And out of nowhere, this drama was dropped like a bomb. I can’t fathom why some hates this historical just by watching 5 episodes. Of course, there will be character development as the story progresses. I love the leads and the reason why I am greatly supporting this drama. Yang Zi fits the role and give a comic relief to the melancholy mood while Chen Yi, what else to say about him. He is excellent. All the cast are good and CGI as well. Don’t miss this romantic drama, so worth it!!!

Now finally it’s broacasted.
I’ve already watch 5 epis. First Yan Dan Yang Zi is really lively and cute . I ‘m sure that her acting can attract many viewers. It’s no need to say that Yang Zi ‘s acting skill is already great .Ying Yuan is really handsome and smart Di Jun. really suited with Cheng Yi.Also I would like to praise Zhi Xi Meng Ziyi for her beauty.I also want to praise the CGI of drama and music songs. I hope this can get many success and achievements. Please be one of the best Xian xia drama.

Cliche story lines/plots---Short Falls on Everything!

I was so looking forward to Cheng Yi and Yang Zi drama...both leads' acting is great and there's enough chemistry between them...However....it just can't make this a good drama, let alone a great one...

Story lines: 2/10
It reminded me so much of TMOPB and Ashes of Love and a little bit of Goodbye my Princess...when the FL jumps or take meds to forget about her love...just backlashes from her own twin sister and another crazy fairy that caused heartache and misunderstanding...How could a heaven realm have such dark and evil fairies that can get away with their bad deeds!

Acting: 8/10
The score is for the male and female leads as I really liked both of them. I was not impressed with other cast members...
However, the two leads just can't carry the drama or make it a good one when everything else fails

Music: 4/10
Nothing to write home about..

Cinematography: -10/10 and yes that's a negative score!!!
The scripting, plotting, casting, directing is not up to par at all...

Rewatch Value: -10/10
I had to drop after only 8 episodes so the rewatch value would definitely be in the negative as well.

The Gods Must Be Bored

Xanxia is that genre where we get to see how very dull life is for the Chinese gods. Their lives are lived at Tai Chi speed, and there doesn't seem to be a brain-cell in sight, generally.

Yes, I heard that 500 years is like one human year, etc.... and therefore, many gods are still immature. Yet, how come the most childish god is always female? Why do we need another series of Yang Zi cheesing it up for laughs? Playing the same saccharine cutesy character, and somehow, we know the ML will fall for the cutesy behaviour, as he always does, despite him being a mature and wise god.

***BTW, having "romantic feelings" for a much younger woman, whether she is immortal or not, whom you literally saw created, and brought up yourself from a child in your own home, is incredibly creepy and gross, and nothing anyone says can convince me otherwise! The antithesis of romantic.***

The script dialogue here is quite well written though, I will say that. But another endless and slow immortal story that will feel like 500 years by the time it is finished? No thanks. I like the Elmo (LOL) Yumo dragon character so far (ooops, turns out he's a black fish, but why does he have horns then???? Bet he has some secret dragon magic) Good addition to the cast of characters. The stoic guy always gets the girl in C-dramas, but they are definitely the most boring. The demon world is always depicted as being more colourful, and bewitching, and I can't imagine anyone in their right minds would rather hang out with the heavenly immortals, if given a choice.

I'm going to have to pass on this one, watching yet another painfully slow love story about some stoic guy and his annoying and childish lady-love is more than I have the patience for. I liked what I read about a part-demon character, but I can see he is going to be steadfastly boring and stoic throughout, so I'm dropping this one.

Xianxia of the year

One of the most highly anticipated dramas on my list this year.
Both actors did not disappoint with their acting that brings their characters to life.
Story starts off a little bit slow, but really picks up after the first few episodes.
CGI is very good and pretty.
There are lots of scenes where you will see this.
Be prepared for lots of heart aches and tears.
Yet, lots of comedy here and there. The ost/music could be better, but it still gives the Xianxia sad song vibe. Rewatch value is high, so many scenes are so funny that you will want to rewatch over and over again.

Heroic resistance

Very excited about the ratings/ ranking, I have stubbornly clinged on until ep 6, hoping it will get better ..It happened that in some cases, like Faith, for instance - where it took the FL 4 eps to adjust , but after that it was a rush !!!
Here however the cringe was too much, with the screeching and jumping of " young" character clever child-like playfullness..Sirry, not enough "."
Make a mash of Love and redemption and add a bit of Ashes of Love , let it slowly slowly cook until you are bored, and call it Immortal .
After all the wait and hype , such a bitter dissapointment !
Watch it for visuals of the actors, if you wish - or better rewatch one of their earlier, better dramas.

almost a replica of AOL

As a person watched and enjoyed Ashes of Love, Immortal Samsara was a complete let down... It felt like AOL but very very uninteresting... I felt like why am i watching it if can rewatch AOL.. the plot is so similar. And I felt most scenes were cliche and cringe. And the same immature female lead and mature older male lead.. I love the female lead but I think it is time for her to choose her roles carefully.. Most of her roles are being repetitive. Psychologist was a very good attempt. saw a different side of her. But she shiuld stop playing 13 year olds now.. i know it is just the first part of the story, still i am not sold...

FANTASTIC!!!

Now I know this review is a bit rushed but hear me out. It's my first time reviewing a c-drama and I have definetlty watched several; from Eternal love to Love and Destiny, Ancient love poetry e.t.c I kinds specialise in fanatsy dramas, cultivation, realm stuff and so on to be precise. This drama is a good one to watch, personally, it's marvelous but considering the larger picture and judging from the few episodes I've watched so far, it's still behind on the C-drama scale putting into consideration that it cannot reach the high cielings set by it's predecessors like Eternal love (Three live three worlds: Ten miles of peach blossoms), Love and redemption and Ancient love poetry which with not doubt were pure masterclasses.
I'm taking nothing away from this drama, as I said; Absolutely love it, love the casting as some time was inserted into the cast selection unlike the storyline that was a bit rushed: Like how did all those Gods die so suddenly, the Demon war in the start was wierd as well and had a larger impact that it seems to have meant to. All I mean is that part is a bit rushed.
Graphics, acting, cast, LOVE IT!! Nice drama to watch if interested in heavenly, mortal, immortal and demonic stuff and if you're a fan of Cheng Yi plus that white haired guy (He Zhong Hua) who seemed to have mastered the techninque of producing masterclasses whenever he acts.
Yeah Try it out.....Definetly recommend it.

Negative vs positive

I Think story was not strong. Makers enlarges the story unnecessarily. It's not worth to-be 59 episodes. Cheng yi's character can be more strong like " love & redemption " series. I saw "Love & redemption " 4/5 times. But immortal samsara is not worth of rewatching.

➤P➤➤
I fall in love with role of cheng yi as asura Leader xuan ye,8( father role of yuan) . The costume, makeup, dialogue everything is perfect. Specially the hair style. It would be better if makers create another sequel series of cheng yi as a role of asura leader.
