Beautiful romance!

Such a beautiful love story, the acting is excellent and the story is so interesting. The romance and the action part is evenly distributed what makes this movie even more perfect! The ML and FL has so much chemistry even without much physical contact you can see their love and care being developed. The only thing is that I wish the story would be more developed and it would show their happy ending a little longer. I think the ending was a little poor compared to the rest of the movie. Would love to see this being made into a few episodes show.Such a beautiful love story!

Purest of love

✅️ Romance in fantasy setting
✅️ Purest, sincere FL
✅️ Honourable, charismatic ML
✅️ Hits you harder thn anime
✅️ Love after arranged marriage
✅️ Intrique & birth secrets

➖️Trigger: Violence and abuse alert

In this unexpected setting, Miyo gets bethrothed to Kiyoka. Miyo despite the abuse she faced growing up, remains unblemised in her innocence and purity of mind. Kiyoka who learns to trust her is drawn to her simple and sincere character. Their interaction was wholesome and sweet in the most beautiful form.

Imada Mio and Meguro Ren managed to potray the real essence of their characters that I felt truly resonate with me and surpass the source material.

Watching them was like sipping a hot Kabusecha: that has a nuanced, unique yet relaxing profile.

Watch will be worth....

I just loved this movie....!
It had such a gentle but powerful impact. The way Kiyoka cared for Miyo, not just as a husband but as someone who truly saw her pain and wanted to protect her, was so beautiful and rare. It wasn’t over-the-top dramatic but something about the soft pacing and emotional depth just stays with you. I think that’s what makes My Happy Marriage so unforgettable ,it’s quiet, but it hits deep.

It's a marriage of obligation slowly transforms into something far more beautiful a journey of healing mutuals understanding, and rediscovery of self-worth. Miyo’s character is heartbreaking yet incredibly relatable,, shy, kind and emotionally scarred, but never truly broken.

Kiyoka on the other hand, surprises viewers with his quiet tenderness. Beneath his icy exterior is a man who is not only capable of love but deeply loyal and protective. Their relationship is gentle and slow-burning, making every moment of connection deeply satisfying.

I’ve already watched it 5 times too and I never got bored, not even for a second. Every time I rewatch it, I notice new little details in their expressions and interactions that make me love them more. It’s the kind of love story that feels healing. I seriously wish there were more movies like this ones that show love as gentle, respectful, and slowly growing instead of rushed or toxic.

Fluffy, heartwarming story

This is a liveaction of a manga and light novel with the same title, but as someone who didn't read nor the manga and the light novel before, this review based entirely on my impression about this movie.

This is the best movie so far, in 2023 for me. At first, I thought this is just a romance movie, hence when I saw the grotesqueries in the beginning, I thought I've clicked on the wrong title 🤣.

This is romantasy movie. And full of fluff. Kudo acted like jerk at first, but he redeemed himself in the next day, and he apologized. He's such a green flag!

The movie is a bit fast paced, and I found that their story is a bit rushing. In a blink of an eye, Kudo already cared for her, just from her hands and tears, for me. But their chemistry is truly amazing. I loved how he just burned the house just to find Miyo, I loved how he cared for her, gave her a house she deserved, long long ago.

I didn't really satisfied with the ending. The emperor is such an evil guy, I hoped more bad ending for him, but well, he was already on his deathbed. I shed tears, also, when Kudo use his sword to his comrades. In the end, it's only his life, or his comrades. The story is beautiful, and so Kudo and Miyo's heartwarming story. In the end, Miyo got all she deserved.

I've read the first two volumes of this manga and really enjoyed them. My Happy Marriage is every bit of a Cinderella story, which is a trope/theme I enjoy when done well. So when I saw there was a movie version, I was immediately sold. And all I have to say after watching it is WOW. This movie is phenomenal.

The filmography, the music, the visual effects, the acting, the story, there wasn't anything I was dissatisfied with. The movie had my eyes glued to my screen in rapt attention from start to finish.

Now, I can't say for sure if reading the first two volumes of the manga aided in my ability to follow the story in this movie or not, but I can admit it's possible. From what I can tell, there seems to be an even split between people who understood the story without interacting with any of the other versions and people who didn't understand it because they'd never interacted with any other version, so I would be aware of that. But I do feel that even if you go in blind, there is a lot to be impressed by with this movie.

For my part, I'm even more pumped to keep reading the manga (which I definitely recommend people read) and maybe even the light novels, which is saying something, because I don't really read light novels.

Also, that bonus scene after the credits setting up another movie. I want, I need, I mUSt hAvE!!!

Another Live Action Version That Doesn't Live Up To Expectations

I've read the light novels and seen the anime and they are both quite entertaining. This live action iteration, however, isn't. I have so many beefs with this that I can't begin to explain how disappointed I am. First off, the movie doesn't dwell too much on explaining how this world works, the many prominent clans, and their powers. It just gives you a brief narration about it in the beginning and then that's it. The characters seem to exhibit tattoos whenever they use their powers, which I found distracting and unnecessary. For a fantasy story such as this one, I found these specific choices severely disappointing. If you're not too familiar with this world and story, there might be some things that you'll find confusing and inadequate. Not to mention that it packs so much stuff in just barely 2 hours, making the pacing of the film far too fast for the uninitiated.

Second, the casting, as a whole, is pretty solid. Imada Mio as Saimori Miyo is a good fit. The rest of the cast did what they could with what they were given. Although I wish they had given some of these characters more fleshing out. Koji was reduced to practically just the neighbor who helps Miyo. His love and devotion towards her non-existent. Yuuki did what he could with what little screentime he was given. However, I think the casting for Kudo Kiyoka is off. First of all, he is NOT what I had imagined for Kudo based on the manga and anime's descriptions. He is supposed to be a beautiful man, almost too pretty to be a man, and Ren is not that. Sure, he's attractive, but not the kind of drop dead gorgeous as the anime and manga suggest.

I found Watanabe Keisuke who plays Arata more appealing and engaging. But that's just me. Meguro Ren is simply not my type. I'm sure he is a fine young actor and has displayed some fairly good acting skills in his other works, but in this movie, I find him very much lacking. Kudo may be stoic at times but he shows very obvious facial expressions even in the anime. Ren sticks to portraying the typical tsundere character and rarely shows emotions, even the way he speaks makes him look so uptight and constipated. And I found it weird that he's the only one who wears a silver wig when everyone else has their natural dark hair. They could've gone with his natural hair color, he would've looked better and less jarring in a long dark wig. They could've chosen Okada Masaki instead and his age gap with Mio would've been better considering Kudo is almost ten years older than Miyo. Plus, he's a more seasoned actor who could've better pulled off the nuances in the emotions that Kudo displays imho.

Third, the movie is marketed as a romance and yet I don't see a clear romantic chemistry between the leads. I may be biased as I've never been fond of Ren's casting for Kudo and there's the fact that I am not into romantic stories so maybe the cynic in me just can't see it. Last, the production value of the movie is superb, from the set designs to the costumes. It boasts eye-catching cinematography and dramatic camera angles. The production is definitely the best part of this movie. The costumes, sets, cinematography, and camera work are excellent. But the writing and plot, not so much. Whoever decided to change the subplot about the grotesqueries and the last battle was most likely thinking about the budget constraints. They probably spent too much on the costumes and sets that they ran out of money for the special effects. Instead, they wrote about insects found in the burial grounds infecting humans and turning them into zombies. WTF?! But I suppose they didn't have enough budget to recreate the grotesqueries so they just opted for humans possessed by grotesqueries??? Whatever. I think it cheapens the story.

And another change that I found incredulous was turning Miyo into some kind of Mary Sue who could do anything and save everyone. She doesn't have that kind of power. She might have the potential for it but definitely not powerful enough to pull off that kind of feat with her present abilities. Her powers lie in dreams, she can enter the dreamworld, influence other people's minds and even see glimpses of the past, present, and future. But the powers she exhibits in this movie are too ridiculous to even comprehend. Then there's Arata's powers that aren't fully explained in the movie either. The anime does it well by having him duel Kiyoka and defeating him by creating illusions. In the movie, it's just one expository scene after another. Show don't tell. But I guess the writers don't care for showing things but would rather tell. It saves time and budget, after all. I am so disappointed with how they handled the “gifts” and the grotesqueries. They didn't even get the love story right as I barely see any kind of “romantic” moments with the leads. I can see why this was a hit in Japan, the production alone is appealing and it features two of their promising young stars. But it's vastly inferior to its anime and manga counterparts. I'd probably watch the sequel too just to see if it has improved, but I'm not hopeful.

honestly..

the anime is top tier. this was kinda mediocre because the plot & story line was so rushed. there are so many rave reviews, maybe if I hadnt loved the anime so much I would’ve enjoyed this more.

I wanted to see so much more of the plot, character, and romance development. Even though I have seen the anime, I found myself briefly confused with the jumping around.

Really wasn’t bad, just not up to my expectations. could have done way better.

I felt like they were trying to portray the entire anime when instead there could have been one major climax and not several rushed together.

acting was great, settings on point, “animation”/ graphics great. just the storyline was rushed & jumbled. wasn’t a smooth tell.

A Powerless and The Most Powerful

This movie is worth your time. Full of fluff scenes, and amazing chemistry between the actors. Cuteness overload. I love that he is said to be very cruel and scary, but is such a sweetheart when it comes to Mayo. A family-friendly movie, so you can watch it with your kids too. The powers confused me, but the cute scenes made it nice to watch. The ending was satisfying. I love his expression softens after seeing her. he saves her like a knight in shining armour when she was in danger, couldn't stand the thought of her having a nightmare. Keep in mind, He is an elite in the military, said to be one of the cruellest people in the whole city 🥹.ill rewatch this when I'm craving a good fluffy romance.

My favorite old school romance.

This is cindrella story.
The anime is actually the story of an underdog, the underdog being cindrella of course but they have taken only one small portion of the anime for this movie and its beautifully edited.

I absolutely loved it. These two had amazing chemistry. Everything is soo subtle and yet very beautiful. It just has the charm of pure love and romance.

Both characters are introverts and they express their love through sincerity. The supporting cast is also pretty amazing. This might just be one of the best casting for live action.

I won't spoil it for you. Just go watch it. It definitely gives you butterflies.

Color me impressed

I have watched a few Japanese shows and movies that were dark or mind bending thrillers but this was my first movie and I was not disappointed. I’m looking forward to a follow up. I’m sure it won’t disappoint either.

This movie was better than expected for a suspenseful love story. The writer did a good job building in the backstory and the blooming love story which I’ve noticed is a talent of the Japanese film industry. The actors successfully exuded the emotions and character depth that draws you into the story. Also, absolutely loved the costumes since I’m a costumer myself. Everything went together nicely to give a beautiful and addictive story.

Awesome Romance

I absolutely loved everything about this movie. I will definitely watch it again and again.

The two leads had strong chemistry. The male lead seemed cold but his heart unfurled like a flower in the sunlight. The female lead was tragic due to long term abuse, but she survived and rose above her past.

I hope there will be a sequel to this soon. I have a few Japanese movies that are my most favorite. This ranks number one. (For Pete's sake, it's 1 am and I'm tired of writing! The 500 word requirement is troublesome!)
