For enthusiasts of historical Kdramas, this is an absolute gem. Woo Do Hwan, portraying Kang Han Su, an attorney, left me utterly impressed with his acting prowess. His performances, whether conveying emotions through subtle movements, captivating smiles, or portraying intense anger and fear, were truly overwhelming. There were moments when I felt like I wasn't merely watching a drama but witnessing real-life unfolds. My heartfelt applause goes to Woo Do Hwan for his incredible talent – truly amazing!

Bona, in the role of Lee Yeon Joo, delivered an outstanding performance. Her chemistry with Woo Do Hwan added another layer to the series, and she's fortunate to share the screen with such a talented co-star. While I wish to see more of her on-screen presence, it seems she opts for one drama per year, leaving audiences eagerly anticipating her next project.

Cha Hak Yeon, in his debut appearance for me, showcased a level of experience that caught my attention. The narrative's emphasis on attorneys striving to protect those falsely accused of crimes in an era where any offense could result in a death sentence was both intriguing and unsettling. I'm grateful not to have lived in Korea during that historical period. Additionally, the portrayal of Korea's historical clothing, especially the beautiful hats, added a captivating visual element to the series.

A Fantastic Epic Series

This was such an enjoyable series from start to finish. We're taken on an epic journey of the Kang family, past & present. It's just a marvelously well written & well acted ... extraordinarily well acted drama!!
To me, the tone of the series changes from a comedic/drama in the early episodes to a more serious tone later on, especially from episode 11 through the end of 16.
The three protagonists give such a great performance throughout. Do Hwan is over the top brilliant in every scene as Han Su. He really can do it all, make you laugh, make you cry & scream with rage. He & Bo Na have such a perfect chemistry together, no matter what the outcome looked like, you knew they would end up together at the very end. There is just no way around it.
Hak Yeon changes his character as the series progresses, and definitely for the better. He shows us several different sides of Ji Sun and does a great job at it. It was another great acting performance in this trio. I was not a fan of this character early on, but that changes a good way through the series.
Kyu Sung is brilliant as Han Su's side kick. He added so much to whatever situation, whether it was dramatic or comedic, he was perfectly placed.
I think the only negative thing I can say about the series was the anticlimactic way Yoo Je Se was dealt with toward the end. He was without a doubt the biggest antagonist thought the story, causing so much pain and suffering to others. You really wanted to see this character suffer a bit more than he actually did. It was satisfying to a degree on his outcome, but I think it could have been so much more.
The way this eventually ends up is pretty much a happy ending for all. It shows a real positive future for the people in 1485.
Extremely enjoyable & definitely a must watch!!!

An amazing drama that I would want to watch again one day

I watched this drama a year ago (I just found out MDL isn't just for reviews) so I might not remember everything. Sorry if my English isn't too great.

The story is amazing. The ML is a Joseon righteous attorney who defends victims because of his own traumas in the past. In the drama we see his cases, and his romance with a princess. The FL is a very kind and empathetic princess unlike her family which is obviously bloody so she ran away and started to live and work at a hostel or something like this and started to live a modest but pretty comfortable life.

The story is very unique. It's a very good thriller with a lot of suspense, so much that you just have to watch the next. Usually with dramas I feel a bit bored sometimes because the episodes are a bit long but I don't remember doing that for Joseon attorney. You can see the plot was very well written and high quality as well.

As for the romance it's honestly really good. I don't remember much but I remember going crazy for Bona and Woo Dohwan's chemistry. They have some steamy scenes as well relating to Woo Dohwan's body. They were so cute together.

For the cast I honestly really liked it. But I felt like Bona was a bit plain. It didn't bother me that much because she was so cute though (she improved a lot in Pyramid Game though). Except for this I love the cast. They acted well.

I dont remember the OSTs so I chose a random number.
I really want to watch the drama again because it was a very pleasant watch. Greatly recommand this masterpiece. They don't deserve their viewership ratings and even MDL ratings, they deserve much more!!!

I like the story of the series very much, the good acting of the actor has made it many times better 👍👏
Douhovan's eyes are very beautiful when the scene is emotional, you can see and feel the sadness in his eyes. 😍 Even when he plays a clown, he is also great, he provided the humor of the series😂
The tone of speaking and the voice of Ghazi Garami is also very good and it suits his role, his facial expressions are very good for the role of this model, I liked him very much.

Quand Joseon fait sa loi à la sauce moderne !

Franchement, je m’attendais à un sageuk classique, lent et lourd… mais SURPRISE !
Joseon Attorney, c’est un petit ovni historique, à mi-chemin entre la comédie barrée et le drame de vengeance 🤯🎎🔥

On suit Kang Han Soo, ce pseudo avocat crapuleux au départ, qui te fait autant lever les yeux au ciel que rire aux éclats 😂
Il n’a pas une once de morale au début, mais à force de défendre les petites gens, il finit par devenir malgré lui un vrai héros, un porte-parole du peuple 🦸‍♂️⚖️
(Franchement, t’as envie de lui mettre des claques ET des câlins tout au long du drama haha.)

Côté romance, faut pas se faire de faux espoirs : elle est mignonne, mais clairement au second (voire troisième) plan.
C’est plus subtil, plus doux, avec une jolie déclaration quand même qui te fait fondre sur place 🥹💌
Mais si t'es venu(e) pour du BIG love en rafale... tu risques de rester sur ta faim 😅

La vraie pépite du drama pour moi ?
Le duo Kang Han Soo et Dong Chi.
LEUR BROMANCE EST DÉLICIEUSE 🤭💛
Deux énergumènes incapables de rester sérieux 3 minutes, c'est du rire assuré.
Et Woo Do Hwan... ahlala, ce gars, il a une vibe unique, entre bouffonnerie et charisme 😂👑

Petit big up aux OST aussi !!
De la dubstep sur un sageuk, mais qui a eu cette idée ?? 😂
Bah écoute… ça passe crème, c’est fun, et ça donne une dynamique moderne bien kiffante 🎶🔥

MAIS (oui, y’a un mais)...
Sur la deuxième partie, le rythme s’effondre un peu.
T'as cette sensation que ça tourne en rond, que certains choix scénaristiques sont tirés par les cheveux juste pour meubler.
Et c’est dommage, parce que le drama avait vraiment le potentiel d’être encore meilleur 😔

Au final, c'est un drama sympathique, original dans sa vibe,
pas parfait mais attachant,
et qui aurait clairement mérité 4-5 épisodes en moins pour rester percutant jusqu’au bout.
Mais malgré ses faiblesses, j’ai passé un super moment sans prise de tête ! 🫶🏻🍿

Altro drama storico di “nuova generazione”, si percepisce infatti l’impegno nel tentativo di rinnovare un genere molto inquadrato come appunto è quello storico. Ost ritmate, fotografia all’avanguardia, regia innovativa e interpreti freschi, moderni, accattivanti così come accattivante è la trama. Seguiamo infatti per la prima volta le vicende di un avvocato brillante, giovane e di bell’aspetto. L'ambientazione legal in questo genere di drama è una novità assoluta. La storia inizia, come spesso succede, con un flashback nel passato: Kang Han-soo (Woo Do-hwan) è figlio di un funzionario di bassa casta ma strettamente correlato alla figura del Re con il quale sta cercando di rivoluzionare il sistema legislativo. L’uomo viene ingiustamente accusato di tradimento e ucciso davanti agli occhi del figlio e della moglie, la quale viene poi trovata impiccata più tardi. Passano gli anni e Han-soo, diventato un avvocato estremamente esperto di tutte le leggi vigenti a Joseon, vive con il suo servo di sempre in una barca. I due arrivano al Porto di Mapo dove iniziano a cercare dei clienti. Il carattere di Han-soo è apparentemente cinico e a tratti burbero, al punto che non è apprezzato dalla popolazione, ma la sua bravura viene presto dimostrata. E’ un oratore senza precedenti, conoscitore indiscusso delle leggi, manipola a suo piacimento le parole ed è veloce e brillante nel trovare sotterfugi a suo favore. Incontra casualmente una giovane locandiera, che in realtà è la principessa Lee Yeon-joo sotto falso nome. La ragazza presta denaro ai cittadini in difficoltà e aiuta i bisognosi nella sua locanda, seguita e appoggiata dalla sua dama di corte e dalla sua guardia personale, anche loro sotto mentite spoglie. L’incontro tra i due non è dei migliori, Yeon-joo non comprende e non approva alcuni atteggiamenti di Han-soo, trovandoli eccessivamente burberi e occasionalmente disumani. Ma Han-soo le dimostra presto che la legge non è così semplice come sembra, soprattutto in un’era in cui gli stessi uomini di legge, coloro che sono al potere, non la applicano mai. Tra casi minori, portati a compimento con successo, il rapporto tra i due migliora fino all’instaurarsi di un sentimento. Nel contempo, il filone narrativo segue anche le vicende a corte dove il giovane Re in carica è tenuto sotto scacco dal Primo Ministro e da tutti i suoi innumerevoli seguaci. Inizia quindi la vera lotta di potere che si scopre essere direttamente correlata ad Han-soo per due motivi: il primo è che il Re vede in lui l’unica figura a cui potersi appoggiare per cercare di ripulire la corruzione a palazzo, il secondo è che entrambi i genitori di Han-soo sono stati uccisi dal Primo Ministro per evitare che l’apparato legislativo, che il Re e il padre di Han-soo stavano creando, venisse portato a compimento. Scopriamo dunque il vero motivo dell’arrivo di Han-soo a Mapo: la vendetta. Ad uno ad uno, grazie alla sua estrema abilità e ad una strategia ben congegnata, fa crollare tutti gli esecutori materiali dell’uccisione della sua famiglia, scoprendo però anche in contemporanea il vero vaso di pandora che si cela dietro e che porta appunto alla figura del Primo Ministro, il reale obiettivo finale. Nella sua impresa viene aiutato da Yeon-joo, dal suo servo e fedele amico Dong-chi, da Lady Hong (dama della Principessa) e da un’insospettabile Yoo Ji-sun, figlio del Primo Ministro. Ecco, tralasciando l’innata bravura di Do-hwan, vorrei concentrarmi sulla figura di Ji-sun, interpretato da N. Ho apprezzato incredibilmente questo ragazzo tanto quanto ho detestato l'ennesima scelta di rilegarlo a second lead martirizzato. “Usami, straziami, strappami l’anima…fai di me, quel che vuoi…” ve la ricordate? Ad un certo punto del drama è diventato nella mia testa il jingle ufficiale ogni qual volta questo personaggio entrava nell’inquadratura. Un giovane bello, intelligente, retto da una morale solida che lo spinge addirittura ad opporsi ferocemente al padre e al mondo di corruzione e agi che egli aveva creato per lui, un uomo che alla fine ritroviamo con il cuore spezzato dal rifiuto di Yeon-joo, un uomo che si propone a tutti come fantoccio da usare a piacimento pur di proteggere la donna che ama e di portare a compimento i propri ideali. “Devi andare contro mio padre? Usa me.” “Hai bisogno di questo? Usa me” “Non farlo tu, usa me!” e via dicendo. Lo troviamo quindi in prima linea, forte del suo nome e della sua nomina a Magistrato, a condire drink con polverine magiche, a falsificare documenti e a portare avanti un peso che, francamente, non meritava. Il tutto alla fine per ritrovarlo senza una minima soddisfazione sentimentale né personale, con un padre criminale e malato di mente da accudire. Mi è piaciuto? Assolutamente no, anzi, mi è davvero dispiaciuto per lui, l’ho trovato un personaggio pieno di potenziale non sfruttato. Interpretazione fortissima invece quella di Han-soo, Woo Do-hwan ha retto magistralmente l’intera trama, a lui hanno affidato la parte comica e drammatica e le ha centrate entrambe senza se e senza ma. E’ stato impossibile non ridere con lui così come è stato impossibile evitare di piangere mentre, straziato e dilaniato nell’animo, l’abbiamo visto accompagnare la sorella, che credeva persa, fino alla sua tomba. Do-hwan ha portato in scena un’interpretazione fantastica, estremamente credibile ed emozionante, peccato che sia stata poco sostenuta dalla protagonista femminile, rappresentata da una poco incisiva Bona. Il suo personaggio è stato subissato dalla potenza e dall’esuberanza di Han-soo, ma la verità è che non si è difesa bene nemmeno nelle scene più sentimentali dove, per citare la mia socia, il primo bacio è sembrato più un tentativo di rianimazione bocca a bocca al punto che, per un attimo, anch’io ho temuto di essere piombata in un crossover con ”Poong, the joseon psychiatrist”, il che sarebbe andato anche bene senonchè la verità è che quello che abbiamo visto era solo un brutto, brutto bacio. Brutto come il successivo ed ultimo, vagamente migliore ma sempre senza mordente (e senso!). Do-hwan ha dato prova di saper fare decisamente meglio e io mi aspettavo qualcosa al suo livello. Ottima invece la recitazione di Han So-eun che ha dato vita a Kang Eun-soo, la sorella di Han-soo. Lei mi ha davvero regalato, assieme a Do-hwan, le due puntate più emozionanti e commoventi di tutta la serie. Concludendo: il drama è, a livello di trama, estremamente ben fatto, dal mio punto di vista la storia è solida e l’intrigo è nuovo, mai noioso o scontato! Boccio la parte romantica e ritengo che ancora una volta sia stato sprecato un second lead strepitoso, con un potenziale fantastico, cosa che devo dire ho già riscontrato in parecchi altri drama e inizia a darmi un po’ sui nervi. Per quanto riguarda il finale, va detto che risulta raffazzonato e poco sensato: Yeon-joo che sparisce per anni, che sembra non possa avere figli…informazioni che ci vengono lanciate addosso come coriandoli senza però ricevere poi nessun approfondimento, troppo bisognosi di rifilarci la conclusione a tarallucci e vino con loro che si rincontrano, grazie al Re e a Ji-sub, e che si baciano post datando le opportune spiegazioni a data da definirsi. Pur comprendendo l’esplosione di passione dopo anni di astinenza, rimango una spettatrice comunque un po' confusa. Peccato. Vale comunque la pena vederlo, però. Se l’intrigo ben studiato non è sufficiente a convincervi, allora lo farà sicuramente Woo Do-hwan senza maglietta! Fidatevi!

pas le meilleur sageuk, mais pas le pire /not the best sageuk, but not the worst

Ce sageuk est assez classique, nous avons le roi qui veut bien faire, un ministre tout puissant qui l'en empêche, et qui tue ce qui lui bloque le passage. Du coup, des enfants vont grandir avec un esprit revanchard !

Ce que j'ai aimé :

La production de qualité, les costumes, bijoux, scènes et paysages sont jolis.
Le casting a la hauteur, on retrouve beaucoup de têtes connues !
L'histoire sans être transcendante est pas mal menée bien qu'un peu lentement.

Ce que je n'ai pas aimé :

L'histoire d'amour entre les leads n'est vraiment pas crédible, cela manque terriblement d'alchimie.
L'actrice principale ! Malheureusement elle essaie de ressembler à Shi Sae Kyeong, et donc garde la bouche ouverte souvent, et a un visage sans expression.

What I liked: The production quality, the costumes, jewellery, scenes and landscapes are all pretty.
The cast is up to scratch, with a lot of familiar faces!
The story, while not transcendent, is carried out well, although a little slowly.

What I didn't like: The love story between the leads isn't really believable, there's a terrible lack of chemistry.
The lead actress! Unfortunately she tries to look like Shi Sae Kyeong, so she often keeps her mouth open and has an expressionless face.
