It is ridiculous and fun. Just roll with it
I normally don't write reviews, but with people being so absurd and prematurely hating on this drama without any capability to chill even a little, I felt the need to say something. (I will update this review with my impressions as the drama goes on and of course after its ending two months from now.)First thing first: Don't go into this drama with the expectation to see a solemn fantasy epic unfolding here, even if it has the typical tropes of past tragic love and loss and reincarnation do-over romance. Because in order to be able to truly enjoy this show, you have to roll with its irreverence and madness it throws at you in abundance already. The tone of the drama is often quirky and ridiculous, but it's not trying to be anything else either! It knows exactly that it is not to be taken serious, and bears its kdrama-crack identity with flying colors. Yes, it does sprinkle in some minuscule tragedy/sad backstory and detestable criminals as Kkokdu's killing targets for flavor, but it is not before long it goes back to more humorous shenanigans between its characters.
To find a lighthearted, goofy drama that runs with that silliness, nor pretends to be deep or grim on top of it, in the current kdrama landscape of doom and gloom is already rare and hard enough. So don't deprive yourself of its fun just because of a chaotic first episode. The second is already so much better, building up on the prior with more suitable pacing. and more backstory for Kkokdu. Also give its plot time to develop. A story-arc is not finished with one or two episodes, especially when there are sixteen episodes and hours in total room for this to happen. So this impatience and criticism due to it being not 100% perfect from the start and a bit rough around the edges is way too overblown and unbecoming, as is the hatred/bias toward FL/actress.
I, for my part, have been wanting to watch and eventually started this drama solely for Kim Jung Hyun. I am so happy about the comeback, since I missed this fantastic, versatile actor and his screen presence so much. Been way too long since Mr. Queen, seriously. His comedic timing, microexpressions and physical comedy has always been something else—and it is so very natural here too. At two episodes in KJH is already a one-man show riot in his interpretation of Kkokdu; a cynic, 10000% done grinch of death who just wants some R&R during his 99 days on earth but is unable to get due to his job/task he so openly and amusingly detests. And on the other side, he seems a tad unhinged with his high-pitched always-on-the-verge-of-hysteria voice coupled with teen girl giggles and anger management issues. He has plenty of reasons to be like this, however. He does have amnesia, hears crazy voices, kills villains every day each 99 years. Who wouldn't go a little cooky?
Once KJH is/was freed from the timid shackles of his human character Do Jin Woo at the end of episode 1, the fun (and true story) starts. It totally shows is that Junghyun has had so much joy playing the petty, blunt, ready for murder immortal, because his acting as Kkokdu has so much energy, vividness, sheer glee and the right amount of world-weary jadedness. It is his comedic and general acting chops that are also bringing out the best in his co-stars (yay for Mr. Queen reunion between the three gods, they are my chaotic faves rn). Even Im Soo-hyang, whose acting hadn't impressed me before, seemed to go toe-to-toe with Jung-hyun once the story picked up. She definitely isn’t as skilled as Junghyun at delivering all the tiny micro expressions that sell the humor of their bickering and squabbling. Even so, these two are pretty fun to watch and with FL exerting her controlling power over his reluctant, unwilling cynic self it's gonna be even more amusing... not for him, though xD
We are just getting started tho, so of course there is not much development in the rom part of the com, but it is bound to happen as a fated lovers kind of deal they are. I just hope we will see more of their bickering rap battles before the inevitable shift of tone to more angst happens. I will definitely stick around to see how the characters and story develop, as tropey as it is, it is simply and simple fun. And sometimes that is all a kdrama has to be to be enjoyable, yknow?

Jung Hyun never disappoints
I'm still waiting for a bad acting performance from Jung Hyun, because I have never seen one yet. He truly is an amazing actor, he can make you laugh & he can make you cry, this drama is no exception. Reading some of the reviews ahead of time I was going into this series ready for a disappointment. That never happened. This series was great from start to finish. Besides Jung Hyun & Soo Hyang playing perfectly together, the entire cast really brought this fairytale to a great completion.I have to admit that some of the characters in the beginning of this series were really annoying, especially Han Chul & Jung Wan, but the transformation that takes place over 16 episodes, you really find a soft spot for them. They definitely become part of the family. Woo Yeon & Da Som become extremely likable.
Chung Hwa & In Kwon were also fantastic as the flirtatious couple throughout ... they were the laugh relief this drama needed at times. They both did a great job doing it.
I think the only thing that fell a little short for me was the main antagonist in this story, Pil Su. He was portrayed in a great way by Kwang II, you really despised him throughout each episode, but we really never got to see his true punishment after his trial. It would have been nice to see his retribution for all his evil doings. beyond that, a wonderful and truly entertaining series!
One line given by Kokdu early on really applies to this drama ... "What's real is what you see, and what's fake is what you want to see"

It's so fun and cute
I started because of actor kim jung hyun and i really love it now. The story is so entertaining. There is no boring moment on it. No line feels like a waste. Actors did their best job. Im soo hyang's acting improved alot. I'm enjoying it. A must watch indeed. Also the cinematography is like breathe into fresh air. They choose beauty locations for filming.
Also kokdu team is the best part of the story for me. They are the best. Their comedy scene isn't cringe at all. They truly can make me laugh

Riveting!!
Bloodshed, star-crossed lovers, retribution and desire to triumph over one's dire circumstances-- what's not to like? Kim Jung Hyun is back to his comedic best. This guy is a chameleon! One moment he's the very picture of calm and cold stoicism. The next he is Kokdu-- chaotic, and crazy, and cruel. He is endearing and vexing in equal measure.First time to see Im Soo Hyang. I don't know why they keep saying she's a terrible actress. I thought she's the perfect Gye-jeol! She's charming, and I'm close to becoming a (big) fan of hers.
Cannot wait for the story to progress. Definitely, looking forward to the rest of the story. 🥰

Sloppy, poorly made k-drama.
This K-drama just... didn’t hit the mark for me.The cast was alright, I guess. It was my first time seeing Kim Jung Hyun on screen, so I’ll hold off on commenting about it—especially since I didn’t enjoy the show overall. As for Im Soo Hyang, even though she’s been getting some flak for her acting here, I actually thought she’d improved since ID: Gangnam Beauty. She wasn’t AMAZING, of course, but at least she seemed a bit more expressive this time.
The plot, though, was a mess. It felt totally out of sync, like a song with no rhythm. The writers just threw a bunch of random stuff in without really tying it together. So many scenes didn’t even matter for the story at all. Some of them didn't even make any sense. With only the important parts left, this kdrama could’ve been wrapped up in 10 episodes or less.
And the scenes felt... off. Weird, I don't know how to explain. All the moments felt forced, like they were trying way too hard to make it funny or sad, but nothing landed naturally. At times, it felt more like a kids’ show than a kdrama.
The production didn’t help either. The scenes with the fake background were awful, the lighting was all wrong, and we could almost see the green screen behind the actors. In fact, you actually CAN see blurry edges around the actors. I couldn't get immersed in the show because of the sloppy bg, the poor production made it really hard to get into the story.
And honestly, parts of the plot gave me the feel that I was watching a cheap Doom At Your Service knockoff. If you’ve seen both of these kdramas, you might get what I mean. But in DAYS, even though the "Doom" had his struggles understanding his own feelings, and had some hard times with the female lead, the way it was presented still makes you root for them. I spent the whole show cheering for Dong Kyung and Doom. But here, Kokdu went from plain rude to overly pushy with the lead, OUT OF NOWHERE. Just, "I woke up today feeling like bothering the FL", and then "guess what? Screw that I'm just gonna love her, whatever lol", and back to "no, I changed my mind, I hate her now again". I just couldn’t connect or cheer for this couple at all. ALSO, the FL is so damn stupid. Oh gosh idk what was worse, the rude ML or the dumb FL. Maybe the combination.
The soundtrack was okay—not amazing, but not terrible either.
Overall, I’d say it’s a skip. Not really worth the time. At all.

I mean what the heck ?? This drama is just worst ..acting is cheap , story is cheapest.. even the historic past flashback was so cheap .. the actor i really liked him in crash landing on you and mr queen .. never thought he would work on a cheap drama like this .. about the actress.. her only good drama was my id is gangnam beauty.. all other drama of her is cheap..i just dropped it after watching for 40 minutes.. ewww flop flop.. total failure .. and the actress is trying too hard to act out … only kids will like this cheap drama .. even cheap is not the exact word for this.. i mean how could do make a drama like this in 2023!!!!!!! Really 2016 was a golden year for kdrama.. until 2019 dramas were quite good .. nowadays dramas are annoying and cheapWas this review helpful to you?

What the hell is wrong ???!
Nothing, just nothing can save this drama from getting a rating of 1 or 2% . Like im soo-hyang's acting was just sooo baddd. I've watched some of her previous works but to hell in this one, man!I thought of giving up just after 10 mins into the drama but though jung-hyun can save it ( as he was gud in Mr. Queen) but i won't watch it after the 1st ep. The story is bad, the acting is bad, the editing is shit. Grim reapers are just monopolised as it is. And the female lead is head over heels in just the 1st ep.
( I would call it a cheap remake of goblin)
The drama is doomed to fail...!!!

For some reason, Im soo hyang's acting is very 'forced'.
The story is pretty common. Kdrama seems to like to capitalise on Grim reapers for stories. With the female lead already falling in love with the male lead in the first episode, feels like there's nothing to look forward to.
For some reason, Im soo hyang's acting is very 'forced'. Trying to hard to be the female character.
I hope she can relax abit more. I think it could be the way she enunciated her words. Most actors/actresses regurgitate their given dialogue, good ones, puts their emotions into their dialogue.

E nada mudou
Final feliz. Was this review helpful to you?
Was this review helpful to you?
