A mature story about two men falling in love? Yes, please!
At first, I thought this was going to be a rather protracted story, with more bromance than romance. I don’t know what made me think that maybe TikTok or the series description I read online, but OH LORD I was so wrong! A stunning cast, mature storytelling, and the best part is, that you never get bored.Nozue and Togawa complete each other so perfectly, as Nozue is afraid of not living a fulfilling life but is also afraid of trying out something new, while Togawa wants Nozue to accomplish all that and helps him to do so.
I was concerned Nozue would be portrayed kinda goofy and rather immature but no, he is exactly what you would think a 39-year-old guy would act like. Amazing. The pacing was just right in my opinion, the slow yet constant development of their relationship made me feel invested and curious about what was going to happen next.
It's so amazing to see Japan improving their BL-Series, hopefully, we will get to see more of this kind of storytelling soon!

So good for a quick and cute watch
It’s just so cute really! It’s a quick watch and their relationship is adorable! I almost gave it 9 stars bc i thought it wasn’t long enough i want more of them😭💛 but i really love it so much and it’s not too mature other than a couple of convos! Other than that it’s pretty wholesome and enjoyable! 4 stars on the soundtrack bc i don’t remember any song besides like theme music and bgm but that could be bc of my attention on them 😂 anyways i really really love it and think if you like cute shows :)Was this review helpful to you?

CUTE BL ABOUT TWO GROWN ADULTS
i think this drama was nice. although short, it was very sweet. i loved the fact that they were both older men which i honestly don't see much bl's about older men so this was refreshing to see. the interactions between the two and the whole entire storyline was cute and interesting. it is a bit plain but even so i still ATE it up lmao.If anyone has any recommendations with bl's with older men pls comment on this !!

"Age is Just A Number."
I watched his solely to complete my 52 Week Challenge, but it turned out to be a real fun experience. Although the syopsis seemed plain ridiculous, the story, characters and their inner conflicts were genuinely portrayed.Nozue-san, an almost 40 year old boss, has always been most cautious with his life. His younger subordinate, Togawa, seeing his internal turmoil, decides to help him overcome his preconceived notions about himself and life in general.
You are never too old to try out new things. This drama depicts this in a careful manner. I loved how Nozae-san was a genuinely nice person, who, despite being seemingly perfect, was hindered by himself. Togowa, at times, appeared much more mature than Nozae-san, yet childlike.
His dialogues at the end of epsiode 4 and 5 are some of the highlights of this show.
It's optimistic overtone was another one.
Overall, it gives you a feeling of really warm and hopeful fuzzies. A solid 8/10 for that.

A gem from Japan
I really enjoyed this BL. Japanese dramas always hit different and not always to my taste, and I have never been able to put my finger on why, but this one is a very good watch. The acting is really good, and I liked the story of the slow burn and fear of rejection and stepping out of your comfort zone. Although not explicitly homophobic, the fact that you feel different than what you think society expects from you can be scary and lead you to do or not do things (hmm cryptic, huh). I would have liked a more conscious decision towards being who you are, but i will definitely take what I got here. Butterflies to the max and o these guys are both adorable!

So much tension without being intense..
This was a nice short series; good for when the brain or heart needs a break after some of the heavier stuff out there in the BL world. The story was unoriginal but that didn't take away from its charm. If anything, the realistic plot was very relatable. I feel like even younger people could take away from this as a "live while you can because you don't want to end up in a stagnant life" mantra.
The tension between the two leads was so palpable, it had me blowing out a contented breath when they finally kissed. The actors delivered all the emotions in a spectacular way; from Togawa's unbridled longing and the snap of his restraint to Nozue's surprised pleasure and confusion.
I could see myself watching this again when I need a lighter piece to cleanse the mental palate.

Watch this show if you need fluff!!!
This is the first review I've wrote for a show and this one deserves it. Although I haven't finished this since it still airing, I already love it, its wholesome and relatable at times. My favorite part is Nozue's character development, you can see in episode 2 of he goes from a glass half empty mindset to a glass half full mindset with his age. He says "hey I'm still in my thirties!" instead of something along the lines of "I'm too old for this". Togawa is slowly showing him how much more there is to life then staying in the same serotype of "an old man" (even tho Nozue is no where near being an old man LOL) and this just shows how much Toga really likes Nozu, through simple cute jesters to even saying " I like you" it all shows how much Toga appreciates and loves Nozu. Which is why I truly LOVE THIS SHOWW!!!! and its rlly underrated!!!Was this review helpful to you?

I love everything about this...
First of all this is also an office romance stroy that's why I choose this to watch. The story is really lively and great eventhough it has only 5 episodes. Good thing I noticed about this series is this story not even have a rush ending. I really enjoyed every minute of this series. When we talk about the cast and their acting skills they did a great job. There acting skills are amazing and so natural. There were no awkwardness between them. The story is about a 39 years old man who thinks that he's not suitable for love anyone and who wanted to do the things that teenegers to but to afraid to do them because of his age and a 29 years old boy who likes him and tries to cheer him up. 29 years old Togawa did everyting to cheer Nozue up especially the girls talk and everything that girls to for fun.
This is a must watch series because the series is so beautiful and I loved the aesthetics of this series. Nozue's confession is also so beautiful. Anyways I seriosly loved this. Apart from a bl this series shows how a middle aged person's reaction after they got cared by someone and the fear of loosing them. That's why I love this. Anyways this is a must watch.

Short. Sweet. Soulful.
FIRST THING. This drama should have HIGHER RATING. Because it;s just too good.Old Fashion Cupcake absolutely stole my heart. I went in expecting a light office romance and came out emotionally wrecked in the best way possible. It’s tender, vulnerable, and quietly devastating — the kind of story that sneaks up on you with soft moments and then clings to your chest long after it’s over. The short BL drama Old Fashion Cupcake is simultaneously a comforting hug and a gut punch. It provides us with more mature romance, quiet heartbreak, and emotional depth in just five episodes than many dramas twice its length.

AND HONSETLY? WAY TOO SHORT. PLS GIVE US A SEASON TWO.
THE ACTORS ARE PHENOMENOL.
I could watch them do absolutely nothing for hours and still be hooked. It’s a quiet masterpiece — sweet, aching, and unforgettable.

Above average but nothing too exiting
This show was really well done, and it’s definitely a more mature story compared to the classic BL’s one, however I didn’t find it enough entertaining to give it more than a 7.5. The story was kind of boring and very predictable, but I think that was due to the short number of episodes. I don’t really like big age gaps, but this one wasn’t that bad, even though I felt little to no chemistry between the two main actors. Overall it’s a good show, I would recommend it just because you can easily finish it in one sitting. Was this review helpful to you?

Wow, this is unlike most Japanese BL
This BL was actually wholesome and didn't have as much bad/toxic/hyperimmature behavior like the others have had. I really enjoyed the MLs dynamic together, and how they actually explored them as human beings, not just following a plot. We got to see more of what they liked and what they didn't like, and the two contrasted well. I wish more Japanese BLs could be like this. I do wish there was at least one more kiss at the end, but their sweetness toward each other will suffice. My one question...did they ever pick up that umbrella? LOL they lost a perfectly good umbrella in that alley. Was this review helpful to you?

So good in so many ways...
I loved this so much in almost every way. The storyline was realistic, but cute, full of life as well as surprisingly good sage life advice. But I really just want to talk about how realistic Togawa's reaction to his own confession was. I was punched in the gut in the best way possible because that would be how I would react if I had to confess to the one person I loved more than life even knowing that would almost certainly mean they'd leave your life forever. and possibly hate you for it. It was THE. BEST. CONFESSION. SCENE EVER. Fight me. we all have our own preferences, but this was just so real, it just hit home, and it resonated with my soul.Ok now for the two negative points that were the only reason this show didn't get a 10/10
1. the acting. There I said it. Parts were great, they gut-punched me in the best way. but... other scenes were awkward to say the least. I think it was just being forced to laugh in a scene that wasn't funny or something, but if it's' getting in the way of my viewing experience enough that I have to include it in a review, it has to be pretty noticeable.
2. this thing with pretending to be girls. I'm mixed about this, because it could be an incredible social commentary on the strict gender roles in Japan, so strict that men can't even go out to eat desserts or take pictures together. And this may be true, but instead, it came off as if rather like they wanted to make it a titillating experience for the female viewers. So, in fact, it had the opposite effect. If you had just taken the "pretend to be girls" element out, and just say, "I want to be able to go out and eat pastries and take pictures which I can't do now that I'm old and a man" and then Togawa responds with something like "age doesn't matter (like that really good quote at the end where he compares it to being from two different districts in Japan - irrelevant) and gender is a social construct," it would have... left a different feeling. But please comment and tell me that I'm wrong. I really want it to be that first option.
