Let's make the best manga adaptation this year
Story : Liking this story or not depends on your preferences and it's okay that some people are not comfortable with a 10 years old gap but ME? I LOVED ITThe whole story is fluff with 5% drama, it's just the two main leads and the other world as just cannon fodders
.
Storytelling: The script is so good, they can extract holy water from the script and sprinkle it on other dramas so they could be this wholesome... joking aside, the characters are well-portrayed, new informations were delivered beautifully and it attracts the audience till the end, they try their best to deliver every thing through picture or dialogues (yeah, goodbye to useless monologues, as we know how some lazy screenwriters/directors love it)
.
The directing is good for a tv drama, I can't ask more than this (atleast for now)....
The cast choice (similarity to its original manga) is excellent and the acting is way better than your average bl drama cast....
.
Overall : Everything good
You can easily come back to this drama if you ever crave for something sweet 😋

The cupcake was good, but it was a bit to sweet for my taste
Sorry if anything is spelled wrong! English is not my first language. Here is my review
Story- I loved the story! It was short, simple, and super cute. When we first got introduced to the story and the Characters it seemed a little boring, but after we got introduced to Togawa I loved it!
(Love Love Loveee Togawa btw)
Now, the series is not that long and for a short story, the plot line was amazing. I only have one thing that I got a little bumped about and that was the romance.
Now there is romance in this series, don't get me wrong, but for me, it was not enough.
(I am a fan of spicy Bl`s and I am not the biggest fan of the wholesome ones so keep that in mind)
I was hyped up about ep.4. the whole reason I started watching this series was that I saw a TikTok with the scene in ep4.
When i got to the scene it was amazing, but what ended up happening was that I got my expectations too high for the last episode. Because the seen in ep.4 was so spicy I hoped for a sex scene sines that did not happen in ep.4, but to my sadly surprise the ep 4 kiss was the last kiss :(
Music- Loved the music (i have nothing more to say lol)
Acting- Amazing acting and a plus in the book since the actors were kind of hot.
In my opinion, I recommend this series to others! but keep in mind that if you personally like. spicy BLs then be prepared to be a little disappointed.

Sweet and Mature
OFC focuses on older men, which is a change for a lot of dramas I've seen. Nozue is melancholic about life but Togawa's gentle insistence on doing things to make him feel younger balances him out. I don't remember any of the music, so it's not ending up on my playlists, but the acting was well done and the story is sweet. Their relationship is lovely and it builds up so nicely.Drawbacks: sometimes the show feels slow because it's very slice of life, so if you want something more upbeat or faster, it's not this show.
There's a major scene where the lighting makes Nozue look so much older and I wish someone would have noticed and fixed it before it made it into final edits.

A Perfectly Crafted 2 Hour Masterpiece of Joy. Do Not Miss
"Old Fashion Cupcake" stands as one of Japan's finest live-action dramas in recent years, deserving global recognition as a future classic. There are a thousand moments that will make you smile.Every aspect of the show - direction, cinematography, musical score and screenwriting - has been carefully considered by a cohesive team to create a series with zero waste and maximum impact.
The premise revolves around finding happiness and joy in life, when a 29 year old office worker Togawa, convinces his jaded nearly 40-year-old boss Nozue to heed his own advice, to embrace the present moment and let go of regret.
Tatsunari Kimura, a veteran stage actor at just 28 when this was filmed in 2022, highlights why he is one of THE actors of his generation, who uses minimal blocking (physical movement) and dialogue to conveys incredible depth, intense emotion and outstanding vulnerability. He also acts with his eyes, a rare skill in young actors. Unfortunately for millions of viewers, he works primarily in stage theatre and rarely does tv work. We hope he will reconsider for an excellent role. Satoh Takeru, please team up and find the perfect opportunity to foster this incredible talent!
Kouhei Takeda, as Nozue, is sublime as he struggles to disguise his Honnae aka true feelings, with minimal facial movement. That's expert skill. His beautiful portrayal of the lonely 39 year old hits home sharply, a man who thinks he can stay in a position of safety, but in reality he is in danger of letting life pass by. We are uplifted by his efforts not to drown in apathy and to seek adventure and embrace joy once again.
Here, a special mention is made of "Morning Dub For N", a beautiful heartbeat instrumental piece by Daisuke Nisihimura (Dunk) that resembles the traditional Japanese koto instrument, to evoke emotions in key scenes - particularly the opening sequence where Nozue contemplates his boring safe life. We also absolutely LOVED the joyous opening tune, Blue Blur, an uplifting bilingual R&B theme song with retro elements by Ryu Matsuyma featuring Mabuana. The entire score and soundtrack are perfectly positioned throughout the series and substantially enhance moving moments, and the entire viewing experience.
Viewers may feel lost when it is over. Should there be a Season 2? After careful deliberation: No. There is nothing left to add or remove. The art is perfect, as is.
Don't Miss It. You Won't Regret.

A Series to Watch Over and Over
This is the 5th new BL 2023 drama I have watched....and it is absolutely my very favorite. The characters, storyline, and mature conversations about life topics of substance....so totally refreshing. The others this year stretch one episode worth of content into 12 episodes. When episode 5 began I wanted it to go slowly as I didn't want the story to end. Will search for other series by this author/director as well as these two actors. Sometimes there is a series that just makes your heart happy.....this was totally one of those.

It's really good but i wanted a few more episodes
The only kinda mid episode was episode 1 where i just didn't feel this drama was gonna be that good. I've watched other age gap office romance which was like wayy too good from the start. This was more on the slow burn side. I really liked how Nozoe was oblivuous of the fact that Togowa liked him but was also jealous and Togawa being a total golden retriever 🤭 my fav scene would be when Nozoe asked him to go out of the kitchen cz he was big and bothersome so Togowa tries to sink himself😆😆 that was just soo damn cute. I really liked those tiny cute moments that popped up once in a while. The reason i minus 0.5 was cz we didn't get to see their life after they got together much. Like their firsts. First official date. First time staying together after they started dating. Moving in together. Telling friends and family about their relationship etc...
Overall it's nice for a 5 ep drama they've done a really good job

it's a quick cute drama u
I like the story line of this drama but the thing is its so short it's a little two short for me like 5 episode and only like 30 minutes for each episode is already too short but it's very beautiful and cute .... if it was 25 episodes long I would watch it like it's that cute the actors are so beautiful and their acting is very good. and I don't know if it because it's a short drama or anything but the misunderstanding didn't last a long time.... I love how the end of the drama even though there isn't a lot of cute love scenes or anything like that I like that and I would recommend watching this drama if you want a little cute drama which has romance but I felt like there was a lot of friendship and this story is a little unique from all the other boss and subcordinate romance because the subcordinate liked him before he what his Boss so that is very different I like this drama I would recommended to anyone who wants to watch it it's very cute but I don't think it's a drama that I will Rewatch but if you watch it it's very good for a one time you for sure......even though I did feel like "I'm 40 year old " is used alot but whatever 😜

Worth Watching! Only 5 episodes.
Simple and very good. I remember watching it in 2022 and it has never left my mind ever since!Coming of age, love at first sight drama. Office romance and an age gap between the too.
Very bitter sweet romance and honestly I really really enjoyed it and do recommend it!
Old Fashioned Cupcake is one of my top 3 favorite Japanese BL romance series although it's short that's how good it is!

Very cute story, directed brought to life by 2 talented actors.
Nozue is a competent 39-year-old manager who, until now, has dedicated his life solely to his work. He gradually becomes closer to Togawa, a 29-year-old subordinate he met one evening over pancakes. Togawa will try to pull Nozue out of his routine (and his shell). He's going to try to win his heart over, but Nozue is afraid (of everything :))+++ Excellent actors, all in micro-expressions and subtlety
+++ Dynamic direction (only 5 episodes) with no dead time or unnecessary scenes
+++ Believable story (and good depiction of Japanese culture: workaholism, lots of team dinners, intrusion into private life, a lot of restraint and few words so as not to offend/bother others, etc.)
### Slightly annoying Japanese drama standard: 1/ Setting up the situation 2/ Exposition of feelings 3/ Denial by one of the characters 4/ Sudden realization 5/ Race to catch up with the one who was rejected
### Very frustrating experience for Western viewers faced with the constraint and constant restraint of the Japanese regarding their feelings ლ(ಠ益ಠლ
=> Very cute story, directed brought to life by 2 talented actors.
****************************************************
ლ(ಠ益ಠლ
=> Story très cute, mise en vie par 2 acteurs de talent.

A Perfectly Sweet Short-Form Office Romance
Honestly I've always been a little ambivalent towards both short form dramas and Japanese dramas. But after watching and loving I Hear The Sunspot I've been testing the waters with Japanese BL again. I am not in to sturm and drang and high drama but I absolutely love sweet and tender romance. This one delivers in every aspect with a wonderful cast, beautiful music and cinematography and most importantly sweetness. The five episodes are each about half an hour long and in the past I've found that shorter dramas have not fleshed out the characters enough nor the sense of how feeling develop between them. This drama put all those others to shame. The sense of who the two lead characters are and why they would love each other is so complete and perfect. I cried along with Togawa when he confessed to Nozue.
I highly recommend watching this drama if you love sweet, gentle love stories between beautiful men. I will be reinvestigating Japanese dramas after watching this one and would love to find more like it.
