The Goryeo-Khitan War and Dae Jo Yeong are both historical dramas that deal with the conflicts between the Korean kingdoms and the Khitan Empire in the 10th and 11th centuries.

If The Great Battle left you awed by the stand at Ansi Fortress, Korea-Khitan War carries you deeper — into a harsher, more enduring kind of heroism.

Not one battle, but generations fighting to hold a fragile kingdom together.
Less myth, more survival — and every victory feels like something carved from stone.

After the mythic founding of a kingdom in Jumong, Korea-Khitan War shows you what it takes to keep that kingdom alive generations later.

Loyalty, sacrifice, and survival — less in legend now, more in the cold, grinding reality of empire.

It's about the exact same era. Just featuring a focus on different historical people but essentially both try to keep true to the historical real events within Goryeo.

It spans decades of turbulent history about invasions (Khitans vs. Mongols) focused on the men who grow to shape the entire country and the time period (King Hyeonjong vs. Kim Jun). It also depicts important battles and the subsequent heroes. The ML King Hyeonjong is also the king who helps to shape Buddhism in the country due to him ordering the carving of the Tripitaka Koreana, while God of War shows its destruction due to the mongols and its recarving.
