one of the best kdrama
whats not to love about this drama. i love all 30 episodes of this series. all of the cast are awesome. the castings are all spot on. i have re watch this drama a few times alreadg particularly part 2 because:1. i love fluffy and cutie naksu
2. dark jang uk is so so so handsome but cutie jang uk is adorable too
3. its short - 10 episodes makes the story compact and less fillers and straight to the point
4. most important it has happy ending for my jang uk- naksu/yeong couple 🥰🥰🥰
i'm aware some are divided and have issues on the casting for part 2, but to me in the end tjis is the story between jang uk and naksu - in all forms. it so endearing that jang uk will.fall in love with same soul every single time.

Review for Part 1 and 2 together
Alchemy of Souls Part 1 and 2 are spectacular productions. This is a character driven fantasy Korean drama that has very well choreograph action scenes, conspiracy galore, great CGI’s, beautiful costumes, comedy, and a story of steadfast love and support from the leading couple as well as the friendship among the young generation of mages. The chemistry among the main characters is fantastic as well as the dynamics of the older mages which many times deliver many comedic moments. Alchemy of Souls has an original story line from the famous Hong sisters with many twists and turns, modern styles (costumes and hairstyles), references to pop culture, and a great OST. The entire drama would’ve have been better if season 2 was integrated with season 1 creating just one drama and viewers would not have been disappointed with some changes. The leading lady on season 2 did very well bringing her character to life as she was Naksu in the beginning of season 1, which I particularly agree with bringing her back with her own semblance, but the amnesia plot weakened her magnificent warrior aura. The second season is more about Uk and Naksu’s love story. Overall, even though this drama has n blend of genres (action, mystery, revenge, comedy,…), the drama is about Uk and Naksu’s relationship as Master and Pupil that evolves into a beautiful love story among the mayhem of a fantastical plot and the antagonists underhanded tactics to bring them down. This drama (Part 1 and 2) is very entertaining, enjoy it!Was this review helpful to you?
Horrible 2nd season/ all over the place
Season 1 still had stories such as pushing the guy who made modock kill again, the unity of funding her daughter etc.. changing FL made it very dislikable since the audience was use to seeing the original FL in one, we did not build character with season 2 FL so it became unrealistic and unrelatable, they jump to 2 and cut alot of things out leaving us saying what happened and why, this had a good potential but writers went wayyy left with no real answers and no real conclusion. Will not watch again the storyline comes off as hopeless.Was this review helpful to you?

I have just completed the second episode of ""Alchemy of souls light and shadows"" . Also know as part 2 . Lee Jae Wook and Go yoon Jung are in the main role . I love the chemistry between them . They are literally killing it. You should watch and i sure you , you will love this show . I don't know why there are only 10 episodes . Btw i am waiting for another episodes eagerly . I recommend you to watch from first part . If you watch from part 2 you can't understand anything . You can watch it on Netflix with subscription.Was this review helpful to you?
Thoughts about the switch...
All the things that made part 1 worthwhile are still there and I have not much to add to that front. If you've seen part 1, watch part 2 :).About the female lead actor switch. The switch was nicely integrated in the story (albeit somewhat convoluted, but not annoyingly so). The only thing which stuck out for me was the lack in personality continuity. Mu-Deak was extremely sassy, hands-on and she struggled quite a bit with choosing for herself or for others. While this rendition of Naksu was more of a passive moral compass type of person, especially in the second half of the season. I liked the interpretation well enough (although I did enjoy the first rendition more), it was just hard to believe they were supposed to be the same person.

A great second season with a different Fil.
When I started this show, I had no idea that Go Youn Jung was going to be the new lead, And I'm glad they did it. I was hoping they'd do it as well since this really hasn't been done before.What can I say? As good as the first season which is rare and they pulled of having a new female lead very well.
Go Youn Jung was just incredible, Both her and Jung So min did so well with the same character and I don't know who I like more.
I do think this story was a little weaker than the first season but other than that, An Incredible end to a great show.

one of my fav kdramas ?
I loved this show so much that I can’t even let go of it, I had a whole mental attachment to it. The plot was really great and the episodes were executed consistently. The main leads and the second lead couples all had amazing chemistry with each other. I loved how both the female and male lead were very strong and that they made eachother stronger. They would do anything for each other. It was also not rushed and really showed us everything they went through. The plot twists and plot line were all great it even makes me cry how good it was. Best of K-Dramas of the year 2022
This drama is definitely along the lines of Goblin (2016), Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), Crash Landing On You (2019), The Untamed (2019) and The Love Between the Fairy and the Devil (2022).It's just one of those EPIC adventures with three-dimensional characters, plot twists, comic reliefs, stunning fantastical cinematography, soundtracks, devastating emotional stories & heartbreaks.

OMG SO GOOD
I freaking loved it! It was so good, even when I had first get used to naksu’s face, because I was stuck with mudeok’s, she was such a comforting actress for me. But I really fast felt the chemistry between them and it also was such a rollercoaster of emotions and I don't know if I should be happy about the happy end or sad because it ended, like I really liked all about it: the cast, the story, the acting, even the ost was great! “Scares leave beautiful trace” is still stuck with me!!!!!I think I can't move one with this drama, but that`s okay!Was this review helpful to you?
Confused but really good
When I saw that there would be a second season I was extremely excited because I thought that naksu would have his memories, I really wanted this to happen, but it was a shattering of expectations in front of meIt was so awakening to see the way naksu was "cute" and without powers, and when she finally comes back to her memories, she doesn't even take the sword, or fight, that was one of the things I had to hold myself back from dropping this kdrama
If naksu had her memories and jang uk didn't recognize her, and still naksu went after him and took his sword, or if she fought at least once during every episode, it would be a much better reencounter
The story is super slow, there were 10 episodes but it felt like I watched 30, it was very tame from one plot to the next, there were almost 4 episodes of naksu having her memories "back" but nothing happened, jang uk kept treating her badly , and she kept having memory, it was literally like that until episode 8.
And when jang uk fell in love with naksu with no memories and totally forgetting about dumbok, it was the worst part of this kdrama, I finished this show with no expectations that jang uk found out that buyeon was naksu, but it had a happy ending, so no it was that bad

Having detachment issues after finishing
Well it's officially over and I have spent 30+ hours dedicating my life to the story and the characters it built and honestly my emotions cant handle it. This drama (both seasons) did such a good job making you care about the characters and develop a connection that you just dont want to let go. Although I wish the Bu Yeon had acted a little more like Mu Deok in the beginning, I still think the actress did a good job with the script she was given in imitating the character Jung So Min created. The thing that really won me over with this drama was Jang Uk. He was absolutely Bad Ass! His persona was completely different from season 1 and the shots and scenes they gave him really elevated the drama. But I will have to say, the best part about season 1 & 2 is hands down the Crown Prince! Him and his relationship with Jang Uk hahaWas this review helpful to you?
