It took me almost 3 years
As the title says, "It took me almost 3 years" watching this movie and has been sleeping on my laptop since 2023.I'd say that the movie is good but it's tad BORING. Despite bringing in good actors (a.k.a Yakusho Koji and Yoshizawa Ryo), the writing is just boring. It really took me almost 3 years watching the whole film just because I can't focus on how boring the story is especially on the first hour. It only got interested for me after an hour.
As the story title says, "Familia", it focuses about the main character, Yakusho Koji and the people around him are "families" of their own.
Aside from the story being boring, I wished they did a bit more of a research. I've read another review here that it's not how they are in Algeria. Even though it was made ""fictional"", they could do more of a research about that part. Also, casting a more of a Southeast Asian looking actress, they could have shifted the story into something about Middle East Asia as that would make it 'more realistic' as they are also focused on the same industry and also wars are happening in the said area. I just wished they stayed realistic despite being 'fictional'. By the way, Nadia's actress is quite cute, she can improve more of her acting in the long run.
The Brazilians in the story are good actors too. I appreciate how they delivered their lines and how they portrayed their roles. Their expressions are good, especially the one who portrayed Marcus. There's something on how he looks and how he delivered his lines.
About Miyavi and his guys, I think that's just how thugs look? For an acting perspective, he could just do more. I really feel less effort coming from him until the end of the story. Most of the story, he's either talking or just sitting there with a BORING expression in his face. He had decent lines but for me, his expressions all throughout the story isn't making much. I don't see much of the supposedly hate in his expressions and just saw his face as plain bored.
My overall rating is 6 as I had enjoyed the movie especially the last hour. It was quite fast paced at the last hour but at least that's where I understood the story better than the first hour. They could have either made it as a movie with a sequel or even a 6 episode drama series instead.
My rewatch value is actually 0.5 but MDL won't allow me to do so. Lol. If you have a lot of time to spare, feel free to watch it. Haha.

everything Nadia did has nothing to do with Algeria for example we don't go down on our knees in front of graves , I have nothing to say about Nadia's looks because there's a minority in the country who looks Asian , but mind u Algeria is a north African country + if you're going to talk about a country and part of the story is supposed to be in that country, at least film there or somewhere similar
There are also lots of Algerian working or living in Japan so it's easy to actually ask someone about how we normally behave , that's if you want the movie to be well filmed

Not Good Enough
Japanese Movie '' Familia '' is a family drama that blends in the stories of different people from different backgrounds, as they, eventually, become a family.The movie starts out quite weakly. The first half actually was boring, as the story was trying to find its footing and get a grip on what it was going to be about. Things started picking up in the second half though, however, that also meant that there was little time left for anything proper to develop. So, the movie suffered, in the end, by the false passing and the confusion of what it is going to narrate ultimately.
The acting, on the other hand, was enjoyable throughout it, especially by the father, who was really strong when it came to the emotional scenes.
So, overall, three out of ten stars for the movie '' Familia ''.

Boring and incoherent story with bland acting
I watched the movie and expected that I would enjoy a beautiful dramatic masterpiece...but I was really shocked by the story...as for the acting, I really liked the cast and their feelings...as for the events, I felt very bored in the first hour of the movie, and some of the events were illogical, especially the topic that It is related to Algeria, even if it is not a true story, but as long as you are talking about another country, you must study the politics, heritage, and life of that country. The story was incoherent, unfortunately. I was disappointed and felt that I wasted my time watching it. Maybe I enjoyed it. The last minutes of the movie because it gave the meaning of family.. Unfortunately, the acting is great, but the writing of the movie is very bad and the events are not connected well.. If you want to watch a movie just to waste time, watch this movie, but if you have limited time, stay away from it because you will feel... Bored..Was this review helpful to you?
