A creatively thrilling ride.
I will keep this review spoiler-free. I saw this in the cinema today and it was not what I would have guessed in any way (nor did it resemble the works some commenters have mentioned). All the way through this film had me fully engaged. It didn’t rely on any cheap jumpscares or implausible elements that would lead to plotholes or break immersion; if anything, what’s scary is the plausibility. There was some serious attention to detail from the cast and creators, which lead to me well and truly enjoying the experience.
The actors all nailed their parts, the soundtrack was unobtrusive but used perfectly when it had its moment (a hard feeling to describe but that moment was perfect). I was left with two small questions that would likely be answered by being better at Japanese, however I can also say I was left deeply satisfied with what I watched.
A little point of caution is that this film is graphic - the murder cases aren’t glossed over and there’s injury detail.

......it is a good watch
I will say this ....if you like serial unaliver plots that are semi complex due to emotion and dark family secrets, this is a good watch. It was a creative spin. Solid, attractive cast.
The sibling hidden stalker love could have been done better or not at all.
With all things said, I do think it's a good drama to watch on a late Saturday night or Friday night. It's not really spooky. There aren't any real jump scares. There is gore with regards to the staging of the dead bodies, but I think that's all a good added effect that lets the story tell. I enjoyed the female lead, the male lead as well, and all the sub characters. The plot makes sense, I just feel like it could have been executed better considering the timelines they had in the movie. I love the theory that comes to light towards the end. It makes a lot of sense. There aren't any loose ends, they kind of leave, an open ending. I'm not a fan of how he looks at the camera at the end, but I'm guessing that has to do with some westernized themes of eeriness that the director is in love with. I would rate it an 8.5 out of 10

The more you don't know, the better it is!
I personally watched this for tao because i am such a big fan but basically i have no idea regarding the plot except for rinka, the wedding planner met the weird guy ; tomu.surprisingly, there are a lot of depth and references here and there for me who just expecting it is just another serial killer thriller movie.
tsuchiya tao did great as always !! i think this may the first time i didnt see her smile much in a film :')
for sakuma who is a rookie actor, he also did well and matched with all the senior actors. well done, sakkun!
i recommend you to avoid any spoilers as much as you can so you can experience the value of this movie.

"I am born under an unlucky star."
It seemed to me that I was born under a lucky star when the Japanese Film Festival screened this movie for free in my country.Believe it or not, Matched was actually the reason why I left our house and broke my one-month "no going out" streak. When I saw the poster in the official JFF lineup this year, I knew I had to fight to get tickets for it (to the point where I had to excuse myself from work just to sneakily snag some tickets—oops).
No one knows how badly I wanted to watch this movie. When it was rumored that both Tao Tsuchiya and Daisuke Sakuma would star in a thriller film together, I knew I had to be there. Tao was someone I really loved seeing on the big screen, while Sakkun, on the other hand, was my favorite Snow Man member, so you can imagine how ecstatic I was when the news came out.
Drama aside, Matched had a very interesting and timely premise. In a generation dominated by technology, everything seemed easier—even finding someone to spend your waking days with. What’s the best way to meet someone with a common interest and goal? Through a dating app, duh.
But what made this interesting for me was the dark truth: you could potentially match with someone who is dangerous. There’s no way you can truly get a feel for someone without spending time with them. And that’s something Rinka did—she entertained someone who was too strange for her liking. Tomu, on the other hand, was probably just cosplaying as someone who's engaged in dark magic.
Despite my dislike of how everything turned out in the end, I genuinely found some parts amusing. Even the people I was watching the movie with were literally howling with laughter whenever Tomu said his iconic line.
If you're used to seeing Sakkun in his always happy and energetic state, well... you won’t get an inkling of that here. Please, give him more of these roles! He pulled it off perfectly.
