After being treated as outcasts and passed around to various units, Omiya and Arita were transferred to a front-line unit tasked to protect Manchuria's northern border. There, they saved a local boy from a sadistic sergeant who accused him of spying. Omiya eventually becomes acquainted with the boy's older sister and falls in love with her.
