Something Different

Honestly, it’s so different from typical Thai GL dramas – mainly because we get a deep dive into the perspective of the other romantic lead, which is really refreshing!

As for the story and the characters: wow. The show portrays such a complicated romantic situation. When one person refuses to open up or make an effort, it really shows that love alone isn’t enough. Patience, respect, and actual effort are needed – and I think that’s exactly what the series tries to convey.

Now, to be honest, I don’t think Yi Min and Ting Ting should’ve ended up together. But maybe I’m just too strict 😅. From season 1, Ting Ting’s been waiting for something clear, and Yi Min’s been struggling to give it to her. It took someone else entering the relationship for Yi Min to realize she might lose Ting Ting…

It’s well explained, though. Even if, personally, I felt that Yi Min had better chemistry with the girl who was in love with her than with her actual love interest – but that’s another conversation!

I really appreciated the topics the series tackled: first love, being closeted, same-sex parenting, co-parenting, and raising a child with autism. These are powerful subjects, and they were handled with care.

So yeah, I definitely recommend it!

Time to get serious

This review is going to primarily compare the second season to the first season of the show

If you haven't watched the first season, I strongly recommend that you do before starting season 2.

The first thing that you will notice when starting S2 is that the episode length is much longer. A significant amount of effort went into making S2 more of a full length drama rather than mini-drama like season 1. We pickup S2 some time after the end of S1, with only a few hints as to what happened in between. However, those missing details are not nearly as important as we're thrust into the lives of Ting and Yi, who are currently in that "awkward talking phase." This season really focuses on adult romance and the baggage that usually is carried with it, with Ting focusing more on her music career and Yi being a divorced mother. Romance between the two is not a question of when they/will they, but rather of "can they?" There are significant moments where we see struggles between the two as their relationship grows, with Yi demonstration a significant amount of apprehension and Ting just trying to cling on to the love she's always had. We see real adult problems that are applicable to all relationships, not just GL ones such as dating when you're a parent and the conflict between being pragmatic and aloof. If you're a fan of GL in general, this story won't be extremely innovative or refreshing, as there are plenty of romance tropes tossed around as well.

I'm also going to admit that one of the reasons I picked up the show is because GL dramas are currently dominated by Thai dramas. I have morning against them, but I wanted to see how other cultures handle this genre.

Overall, if you're into GL, I would strongly recommend this drama. For anyone who isn't, but still a fan of dramas in general, I would say to give the first season a try since it's short and you might find yourself here at S2 in no time.
