Powerful, gripping, entertaining

This drama was so easy to binge watch, I finished it in two days! It was full of twists and turns and a powerful metaphor throughout. It was well written, beautifully executed and overall a masterpiece of a drama. The soundtrack was also so incredible, the acting was superb and every character was fleshed out well! I just finished a rewatch of Weak Hero Class 1 before watching this and this was exactly what I needed! If you're a fan of WHC1 I highly recommend you give this drama a try! It has spectacle, intelligent characters fighting to outsmart each other, revenge, loyalty--what an exciting watch!

This drama was good but it felt kind of empty

So I just finished this drama last night and I kind of have mixed feelings, because I really like the cast and the story but there’s a few things I wasn’t really a big fan of.
For example the implied ending. I didn’t really like the implication that there’s gonna be some sort of repeat of everything that we just saw.
It’s like even if the main girls might be able to stop the game before it starts this time because of all that’s happened before, it still makes me think—what was the point of all of this if it’s gonna end from the start you know?
And I think the feeling of emptiness I got from it comes from the fact that— despite there not being many moments when I felt bored— not much happened throughout all 10 episodes. I think I wish there was more episodes with more stuff happening. I’ve become exhausted with these short season dramas and tv shows.

Anyways yeah that’s it.
Good but kind of lacking in some ways.

A Microcosmic Depiction of Society in a School Setting

Pyramid Game pulls you into a world that feels eerily familiar, even though it’s anything but ordinary. The protagonist, a smart, outgoing girl, finds herself constantly switching schools because of her father’s work. She’s used to making new friends, navigating different environments, and hoping for a warm start—but from the moment she walks into her new school, she realizes something is seriously off. Instead of the usual excitement of a new place, she’s thrown into a bizarre and unsettling game that pits students against each other based on popularity: A, B, C, D... and then there’s F.

Being assigned F doesn’t just mean you’re at the bottom—it’s a dangerous designation. If you get F, your classmates are free to torture you, both mentally and physically, with no consequences. It’s a game where survival means playing dirty, betraying others, and using lies and manipulation as tools to protect yourself. The question that haunts you is: Why would anyone agree to play such a game? What do they even gain?

The answer is chilling: Money. It gives students the power to climb the ranks, but it comes at the cost of their morality. It’s not just about playing the game—it’s about ruining others to get ahead, all while schools and the higher-ups turn a blind eye. Do they care if students are bullied, self-harming, or emotionally scarred? Not really. What they care about is protecting their image. That’s the heartbreaking truth at the heart of the show.

The series does an incredible job of reflecting society—where the rich live in their bubble, untouched by the struggles of the less fortunate. Meanwhile, those at the bottom are clawing to escape their tough situations. Pyramid Game doesn’t shy away from showing the dark side of human nature, where people act out of desperation, fear, and the desire to survive at any cost. But just when you think you’ve got a character figured out, BAM—a twist hits, and everything changes.

Speaking of characters, I absolutely loved how real the female lead felt. She’s not a perfect hero by any means. She’s clever, resourceful, and at times, she makes some tough, even selfish decisions. But that’s what makes her relatable. She’s not here to save the world—she’s here to protect herself. And honestly? That’s something we can all understand. She’s smart enough to know when to act, when to trust, and when to lie to keep herself safe. No damsel in distress here, folks!

Now, the antagonist. Oh boy. At first, she seems like just another character, and then slowly—you realize she’s not who she appears to be. The actress who played her did an outstanding job—her expressions and subtle smiles really brought the character to life in ways that words never could. I won't spoil anything, but let’s just say, expect the unexpected when it comes to this character. She's masterfully portrayed, and it took me a while to even realize just how manipulative she is.

However, I did have a bit of an issue with the pacing of the show. At first, I was completely hooked—the suspense, the tension, the mind games. But as the episodes went on, it started to drag a bit. I felt like the story could’ve moved a bit faster, especially in the middle episodes. Also, there were moments when the scenes outside the school felt a bit less engaging compared to the tension-filled classroom moments. They didn't quite pack the same punch.

One thing I did find interesting was the way the agencies are more concerned about their reputation than the actual well-being of the students. This adds a nice layer of critique on how real-world institutions often prioritize image over people.

At the end of the day, Pyramid Game is definitely worth a watch. It’s a psychological thriller with a sharp social commentary about power, money, and manipulation. Even if you’re not into high school settings, give the first episode a try—you might either hate it or fall in love with it, but it’ll definitely make you think about the darker side of human nature and the systems we live in.

A pleasant surprise.

This show is absolutely amazing. When I started watching it, I didn't have very high expectations, but oh, was I surprised. The acting of all the characters is incredibly on point, and they don't lack depth at all . Each character is fascinating in their own right, hiding secrets and undergoing character development throughout the series.

Let me tell you, the story is so interesting. Despite only being six episodes in, so much has already happened. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of girls' love themes before, but this drama completely changed my perspective. The relationships (ships), are unbelievably cute, and I'm rooting for them to become official.

The female lead is insanely intelligent, something that I admire. Additionally, the second female lead has the kindness, creating a perfect balance between the two characters. Together, they form a duo that complements each other beautifully.

This drama has my heart, and I highly recommend giving it a watch.

the acting is really good but the ending could have been better if they follow the story.

I've read the webtoo and I'm honestly quite disappointed that they didn't follow the ending...the whole reason Harin picked on Ja-Eun was not because 'she used to be a bystander and didn't play with her' but because they were sisters. their parents where poor and couldn't take care of 2 children. the wanted to put one of them out for adoption. the sisters made pact but Ja-Eun betraid Se-eun/Harin at the very last moment. Harin had to leave, she endured a lot of torture in the orphanage. one day she saw her sister with their mom being all happy and she decided to get revenge.

Predator or Prey, what shall it be?

Pyramid Game, so far the 4 episodes are well executed. It gives that mystery action kind of vibes too it. It's layering of certain points in each episode was handled beautifully. From someone who easily understands the plot before more information is given where as even tho this plot isn't difficult to comprehend the twists itself will have u shocked momentarily and craving for more.

Finally, an actually interesting thriller.

(No spoilers.)

I was so excited to see the adaption of one of my favourite webtoons The Pyramid Game coming to the live screen, even more when it was announced with only 10 episodes. (No episode was filler. It was all just so brilliant and tightly woven.) And now, after finally completing it, I can confidently that this IS the thriller of 2024.

This drama actually captures the themes of social hierarchy and the bystander effect so well. It left me anxious, crying from joy and both shock, on the edge of my seat with how each episodes end, and deep in contemplation.

We are able to examine the other characters through the lens of the outsider/new student, aka our main character. Because of this, this show is able to do things that other "psychological dramas w high school students" can't.

We actually do have morally ambigious characters. We get to root for them. Pray for them. Watch them suffer. Watch others suffer. Watch the complex relationships unravel. And its all done so succinctly in 10 episodes.

The antagonist is a fresh face: one can argue her acting is a little stiff, but it's actually her microexpressions that deepen her character even further. She becomes the bane of the show, the bane of the main characters' existences. She's truly a 'villian' - her presence feels eerily untouchable, and that's because of how the drama cleverly portrays her to us, the audience, and to the main characters.

I think the acting and the choice of cast was also extremely clever. They felt so real and young, and thats what we NEEDED. They are teenagers - they are still learning, still maturing. They're going to be selfish, they're going to make stupid, impossible decisions.

I seriously reccommend this. Unlike the other dramas that try to capture this level of thriller and drama amongst high school students, this one creates a contained level of world-building that doesn't rely on typical misunderstandings or miscommunication tropes to prolong the suffering.

The only fault I can find with this is the difference between the webtoon and the drama in terms of the climax at Episode 9. The webtoon properly evaluates and expands on the world-building in a way that 10 episodes can't.

And yet, 10 episodes was enough to do it all. Definitely going to give this a rewatch.

--

Additionally, as this drama is set in an all-girls school, we can enjoy the complexities of girlhood and lesbian relationships without the interference of men and the male gaze. So happy omg :]

So good, highly suggest you watch this!

In the beginning the bullying was extremely hard to sit through but I realized overtime that they wanted to showcase the intensity for a reason. That being said, once sooji joined the class and her instinct catching on I was so immersed in her perspective that It drew my attention. The friendship and relationships that are formed is one of the most powerful parts of the show, I cried lots when the main friend group stuck by eachothers side throughout. and of course sooji and jaeun’s precious friendship, how they always wanted to protect eachother. The ending was not rushed at all and felt like It didn’t miss a single thing. Highly recommend and this drama will be dearly missed by me

++ haerin’s was truly TERRIFYING. i dont think i’ve seen many actresses be able to express and truly embody a psychopath quite like jang da a. was so impressing and even the soundtrack for her was scary.😭 well done

My last time watching series about bullying?

I watched this as it's recommended by my younger brother and I had little hopes. And my hunch is correct. Now that I finished ep 1, I decided it's not for me. My brother really enjoyed it but as for me I have many complaints. Like any other shows about bullying, i hate when the main character does not immediately fights back the moment the bullying first starts or just transfer schools, or tell your parents, or teachers. I hate watching them get hurt many times before taking any actions. Like my God, just one punch to the face to make it even and just transfer schools! Maybe because my standard for shows like this is Weak Hero Class 1 and that one is so satisfying even just at ep 1. This one is like same stories with other bullying shows but just a little bit fancy twist like having a nonsense game to justify or decide who should they bully. So many students who are eye witnesses to such bullying and no one decides to step up. So unrealistic! maybe because where I grew up, this type of issue is never a problem. I asked my brother for spoilers if the bullies will at least suffer the same amount of physical pain the main charc experienced by the end, and he answered "No, it's more like a mind game not action". That's why i decided that if there is not at least one bully who gets punched in the face and have their teeth flying in the air by the end of the show, then I won't continue watching it, just a waste of time. This show isn't for me who hates same old dumb reasons why the mc can't find back the very first time they got bullied. No hate to the drama I bet others really like it like my brother, me personally, am just tired of this kind of story flow. To those who experience this kind of bullying at school, please fight back or tell your parents, no harm with relying on your parents for this kind of thing.
