This is easily one of the most beautiful films I’ve ever seen.

The tears started flowing early and didn’t stop until the very end. It reminded me of my grandmother and how much I miss her. I think that’s why it touched me so deeply. One of the film's strengths is how relatable it is. It doesn’t try to force the audience to cry or manipulate emotions; instead, it beautifully portrays the complexities of family relationships and the inevitability of mortality, making it truly impactful.

I loved how M and his grandma found their way back to each other, rediscovering their bond and how M came to better understand his family. Those last 20 minutes were some of the most moving I’ve ever watched.

The cast deserves huge praise for bringing these characters to life, especially Billkin and Taew Usha Seamkhum. Their performances added incredible authenticity to the film.

Watching it left me with a renewed appreciation for life’s fleeting moments and the meaning they bring. It’s a movie that will stay with me.

A Poignant and Relatable Family Drama

I can only describe this movie in one word - tearjerker. I cried buckets watching this darn movie! I knew this movie garnered several awards and was hailed as one of the best movies of the year. But even so, I was still taken aback by how good it actually is. It is one of those movies that catches you off-guard because you'd think it's tragic and depressing, but it's actually a very wholesome and feel-good family film. Yes, it's heartwrenching and it'll make you weep, but it'll also stir up fond memories of your childhood and the precious time you shared with your familial relations - especially those who have passed away - whether you liked them or not.

It reminded me so much of my own grandmother and her last days. She, too, had cancer and passed away in our home under our care. Like the grandma in this movie, she left us a legacy that we cannot quite live up to, and to this day, I ask myself if we're even worthy of what she left us.

I started out disliking the main character M because he appeared to be the typical overprivileged Gen Z bum who expects everything to be handed to him on a silver platter. But as the story progresses, you see this significant change in his attitude towards life and his own family. Talk about great character development! By the end of the film, I empathized with him and I was totally on his corner.

What really made me cry was the angle about favoritism among children because I could definitely relate to that. The caretakers are often the ones taken for granted and least appreciated. I felt that because I was that caretaker and I have always felt that I was my mother's least favorite child. It is also a deeply provocative film that made me think about growing older and where I will end up. It reminded me a bit of that Japanese film I saw last year, Plan 75. It made me feel depressed. But it also made me want to prepare for my future and retirement because being old and alone is scary.

This is such an amazing film that pays tribute to the very idea of family. There are no perfect families, no perfect parents, and no perfect children. But we all do our best to love and care for each other the only way we know how.

Bittersweet Solo Cinema Awakening

This is the first movie I went to the cinema to see alone, and it was quite an experience. I’ve watched it twice—once on the big screen and once at home—and I cried even more the second time. I find it visually beautiful, with characters so complex and real that you can easily see yourself or someone from your own surroundings in every glance. The way the film balances its quiet moments of regret, hope, and tenderness made me feel understood in my own reflections about family and solitude. It also opened my eyes to how family patterns repeat themselves—whether in Thailand, Japan, Korea, or Spain—showing that certain bonds and behaviors are truly universal.
Also, I’m absolutely obsessed with the soundtrack: it’s so beautiful that I put it on whenever I need something calm and comforting.

It moved me to tears

Judge by actions, not intentions - for no one is perfect in thought. This heartwarming slice-of-life film tells a story about family bonds and filial duty. While its slow pacing may feel challenging at first, viewers gradually become immersed until they're moved to tears. Quite different from typical Thai idol dramas, its gentle approach nonetheless tackles social issues like parental neglect and son preference through realistic details. Being set in a Chinese family, it maintains cultural proximity for mainland audiences. One can't help but notice how deeply animist and Buddhist beliefs permeate every aspect of Thai cultural life.

Hit so close to home

i had my eyes on this film ever since its announcement since my girl Tu is in it and all the acclaim it was getting making me even more excited to watch
i was engrossed the whole 2 hours of runtime, never once did i feel bored. the story moved well along and was told with so much love.
i had recently lost both of my grandmothers that too within a month of each other. both of them had become so sick for quite a while that they had become the shells of the people they used to be. this movie reminded me a lot of who they were, the loving and comforting people they were, always welcoming and waiting for my return. i hope they are resting well and i was able to give them back at least a bit of the comfort they had given me

Deeply sad and tear-jerking movie! everything is awesome!!

LAHN MAH : How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies was deeply sad and tear-jerking movie. with its powerful storytelling and emotional depth, this movie left me in a puddle of tears. i started cryin in the first 30 minutes, the pray paper part. then it became layers upon layers of unending sadness that kept making me cry.

mixed feelings, mainly because of the 40% relatable plot + Amah as a grandma figure who feels so real + the touching moment of finally seeing Billkin and Tu Tontawan loml, on the big screen of my country + proud because many witnessed the debut movie of my idols. Amah's acting, considering this is her debut film, is truly incredible. Billkin and his consistently powerful crying scenes. Tu with her first movie debut. not biased more, but this is really worth to watch and i feel i'm a proud fan because my idol's debut movie as MAIN LEAD was so awesome!🥹

if u feel u can't relate bcs your relationship with your grandma, hear me out, it doesn't have to be related because of the closeness of grandchild and grandma, it can also be related to thinking about "whether one day i will be like Amah's child?". then i love small conversations such as Amah asking "have you eaten yet?" "the lights are turned off?" those are really close with real life. small details like M's sandals which came off in a hurry, waering same clothes etc. we all know GDH never disappoints. and now Lahn Mah is getting 300,000+ viewers in 5 days of screening in Indonesia! it's more than amazing!!! i cried a lotttt😭🥹💓💖💌💞🫶🏻

this movie will leave you sobbing uncontrollably!! ((my experience))

Walked right into this one...

So this was an incredibly emotionally touching film. The whole point is to stir the viewers' emotions and empathy and I think they manage to do that.
I don't know what I was thinking, watching this. I was so brave and only cried once at the very end but truth is, given the fact that it's been over a decade since I lost my grandmother and I'm still not over it, I don't know why I thought I could handle a story like this.
However, this was very well made. The actress playing the grandmother is truly amazing and she just looks so cozy and grandma-coded too. Like, screw all those ungrateful jerks! How are they not obsessed with hanging out with her?!
Anyway, I have had the unfortunate chance to watch some low budget Thai dramas but this one is obviously of a whole other tier and I loved being introduced to the country through such a movie.
I personally enjoyed this movie. Worth the hype and then some! Obviously the plot was great; so was the acting, production and so on. I would just like to shout out the great set designs. It set the mood and felt so natural that it helped make you feel closer to the story and its characters.
Highly recommend. Prepare lots of tissues though.

Heartwarming, down-to-earth and beautiful

I watched my first Thai drama 4yrs ago and disliked it so much that I hadn't gone back to Thai dramaland since and it so when I saw this in Netflix I wrote it off but the story was really right up my lane and based on a true story and wouldn't just stay out of my mind, so I decided to try it out and I'm glad to say that I did not regret doing so at all!

I love this movie. It is a beautiful depiction of the imperfection of family, and loving each other regardless of those imperfections. It's not a groundbreaking story or new but it's human and I loved that. I loved the down-to-earth acting and feel of the story.
I loved watching the story unfold and watching the normalcy of their lives and also seeing what little I could of the Thai culture.

I think the actors did a great job even the little granddaughter Rainbow. No one was hateful or unbelievable, I loved it. The Grandma-grandson duo obviously carried it and they carried it well!

I especially loved the grandma so so much, she was my favorite character. Reminded me of my grandma, all sass and character and strong-willed 'I can do it all myself thank you very much', and I bless God for each day of her continued good health.

I'm giving this show a 9.5 solely because of some editing issues that occured a few times like in the scene where he's talking to his uncle. It was few but it felt like something was cut out and I noticed it about 3 times. It was a tiny thing but I unfortunately kept noticing it. Other than that, this is a really beautifully shot movie, I'm glad I watched it, I'm happy to try out Thai media again and I'll love to rewatch this someday.
High rewatch value for just the lovely story and gentle depiction.

I noticed and loved the music and it added to the movie. Sometimes I don't notice the BGM or OST of what I'm watching and I usually don't mind because it means, at least it wasn't bad but sometimes I do notice and it's usually cos it's great or terrible. Here it was really good, a light and sweet BGM that added to the story and I liked hearing it.

Please if anyone has any recommendations in this vein, from Thai or anywhere else, please share with me.

“Amah peringkat pertamaku.”
