News the best comedy drama of this year.
I am watching Pull String, and I really love the fact that not a single episode is boring. I have watched the donghua version of Pull String, which is Big Brother. Obviously, it is not as grand as the anime because the scale you can create in animation is really hard to replicate in a drama. So, they definitely made some changes. But you still get what you want. You get a good story, great comic timing, hilarious situations, and, as the cherry on top, a cute couple. I also like how lighthearted the drama is. The first priority seems to be the plot and comedy, and surprisingly, it works well enough for me to stay hooked.
I won't lie about the VFX—it feels a bit like Love Between Fairy and Devil. It's not too good, but it's not too bad either.
If you are looking for something serious, with high production value and detailed, complex characters, this one is probably not for you.
But if you want something funny to watch, where you get a good plot and can simply have fun, with lighthearted characters, then this one is for you.
10/10 if you want something funny to watch.
I would also say that if you have watched The Guardian of Dafeng, Pull String is better than that one when it comes to comedy. the best comedy fantasy drama i have watched in main stream..

Li Chan Shou
Guys, I just finished Episode 30 of Pull Strings, and WOW 😭😭 I genuinely, genuinely enjoyed this drama from beginning to end!Honestly, it was a rollercoaster of emotions, laughter, chaos, and pure unseriousness 😂. I laughed so much I was literally tearing up. Even in scenes that were supposed to be serious, somehow the way they executed them made them funny. There was barely a moment where I wasn’t entertained. 😂
Let me just say this: Pull Strings is an unserious drama in the BEST possible way. 😭 If you’re feeling down, having a bad day, or you just need something to lift your mood, PLEASE turn this drama on. You will laugh your ass off. 😂😂
And that ending??? 👀 The way Jin Chan mentioned the two tribulations — the fairy being the hero of the first tribulation and the male lead being the hero of the second — AND THEN they gave us “TO BE CONTINUED”??? 😭😭
Yeahhh, I’m taking that as confirmation that we’re getting Season 2 because there is NO WAY they ended it like that and expect us to just move on. 😂 Now the question is WHEN are they giving us Season 2? Because I have questions! 😭
For those of you who are still wondering, “Should I watch Pull Strings?” — YES. GO WATCH IT. And for those who dropped it halfway, please go and pick it back up! You’re missing out. 😂
One thing I really appreciated was how everyone got their chance to shine. It wasn’t just about the main leads. The disciples, mentors, the sects, the Immortal Clan, Bear Clan, Dragon Sect, Ascension Sect, and everyone else all played their parts and contributed to the story. Nobody felt completely useless or like they were just there for decoration.
Everybody brought something to the table, and I really enjoyed watching how their different roles came together.
Overall, Pull Strings was such a fun watch. It gave me laughter, emotions, chaos, and entertainment from start to finish. 😂❤️
Rating: 9/10 — because honestly, I had FUN watching this drama, and sometimes that’s all I need. 😭😂

Thoroughly enjoyed watching it!!!
I started this drama without any expectations, since, i haven't read the novel or seen the donghua, but ended up loving it🤗The first few episodes were funny with the introduction of all characters and the male lead himself being unserious most of the times.
But as the plot progresses, though it takes us on a fun ride, underneath, we are introduced gradually to the main plot and the characters that are directly related to it, along with their goals.
While I enjoyed all these episodes, what really I loved was the last few episodes where we get to see the emotions between Li Changshou and his master and junior sister, his desperation to find a solution to put an end to all this and let everyone leave peacefully, and also his meticulously planned steps which started to tumble down due to the villain and his actions.
Honestly, the last episodes were where I thought Li Changshou was actually being himself, like his junior sister said, "trying to protect everyone while wearing a cover of using everyone around him".
These episodes also brought tears to my eyes.
I loved the relationship between Li Changshou, Qi Yuan, Lan Ling'e and also with his aunt Jiu Jiu, and junior Xuanya.
Also, his friendship with the Celestial emperor, the moon elder and Ao Yi, the dragon second prince too.
The whole part of Bear Island was funny for me.
The subtle romantic track between Li Changshou and Fairy Yunxiao really impressed me. They dont require any words to communicate, just their heart and mind are in sync🥰
All the actors were excellent in their performance 💯
Ao Ruipeng totally nailed his character. From being funny to serious, being decisive to being emotional, he was perfect in his acting👌
On a final note, i really loved this drama👍
A TOTALLY WORTH WATCHING DRAMA, despite few flaws.

I Came for the Xianxia, Stayed for the Chaos
I honestly did not expect Pull Strings to make me laugh this much.I've watched plenty of C-dramas with comedy sprinkled into the story, but this is probably the first one where I genuinely found myself laughing out loud episode after episode. Not just smiling at a funny scene. Actually laughing. 🤣
And yes, a huge part of that is Ao Ruipeng.
I have already watched him in more serious roles, so seeing him completely unleash this side of himself as Li Changshou was such a pleasant surprise. His expressions, timing, deadpan reactions, and the way he plays Changshou's constant calculation are basically comedy gold.
But what makes Pull Strings work for me is that underneath all the ridiculous situations, there is an actual story.
This is not a no-brainer comedy.
Li Changshou is a reincarnated cultivator whose greatest ambition isn't to become the strongest, save the world, or become famous. He simply wants to survive, cultivate quietly, avoid unnecessary karma, and eventually secure a peaceful life.
So naturally, the universe refuses to cooperate. 😂
His entire philosophy is basically: stay hidden, keep your cards close, calculate everything, avoid unnecessary fights, and never reveal more than you absolutely have to.
The irony is that he becomes so good at pulling strings from behind the scenes that his carefully calculated actions keep creating increasingly huge consequences.
And THAT is where the title makes sense.
He really is the man behind the scenes.
What I loved about Changshou is that his intelligence isn't presented in the usual “look how powerful I am” way. He is cautious almost to an absurd degree. He prepares escape routes, hides his abilities, plans around possible outcomes, and tries to make other people believe they're acting independently.
Sometimes watching him plan is almost funnier than watching the actual comedy.
Because while everyone else is panicking, Changshou is already three steps ahead—
and then something completely ridiculous happens that forces him to pull another string. 🤣
The supporting characters make this even better.
One of the biggest strengths of the drama is that the comedy doesn't depend entirely on one character making stupid jokes. A lot of the humor comes from misunderstandings created by incomplete information. Everyone thinks they understand the situation, everyone has their own mission, and somehow everyone ends up talking about completely different things while assuming they're on the same page.
Some of those scenes had me absolutely losing it.
The characters can be incredibly cautious and competent individually, yet put them together and suddenly the situation becomes pure chaos. 😂
And somehow, it still fits the story.
That's what I appreciated most: the comedy comes from the characters and the world, rather than feeling randomly pasted onto a serious plot.
There is also a surprising amount of strategy underneath the humor.
The story gradually expands beyond Changshou simply trying to survive. Different factions, the Dragon Clan, the Heavenly Court, the approaching calamity, hidden identities, alliances, betrayals, and long-term schemes all become part of the bigger picture.
So while I initially watched this thinking, “Okay, this is going to be my funny palate cleanser,” I eventually realized that I was actually invested in the larger story.
It still made me laugh, but there was enough substance underneath it to keep me watching.
And then there's the ending.
I have to admit, I felt a little bit cheated. 😂
Not because it was terrible, but because after spending 30 episodes with these characters, I wanted just a little more closure. The final stretch suddenly becomes much more emotional, and there is a genuine little kurot after all the comedy that came before it.
The story ends with the feeling that this journey isn't completely over, which made me understand immediately why I finished it and went:
“HUH? BITIN?!” 😭
And yes, that is probably my biggest complaint.
Thirty episodes felt too short for the amount of story this drama was trying to cover.
The original story is much larger, and you can feel that the adaptation has a lot of material competing for limited episode space. Some later developments move very quickly, while the ending leaves you wanting more. Critics have similarly noted the compression and the amount of source material behind the adaptation.
But despite that, I had an absolute blast watching this.
And I think that's worth saying because I don't usually rate a drama highly simply because it's funny.
For me, Pull Strings worked because it gave me three things at once:
Comedy.
A genuinely clever protagonist.
And an actual story underneath the chaos.
Ao Ruipeng was the biggest surprise for me. I've seen him in serious roles before, but this was the first time I really got to appreciate just how funny he can be when given the right material.
His Li Changshou is cautious, paranoid, calculating, secretly powerful, and constantly trying to avoid becoming the center of attention.
Which, of course, guarantees that he becomes exactly that.
😂😂😂
💚 Would Watch Again?
Absolutely.
Especially when I need something that can make me laugh without feeling completely empty underneath the comedy.
⚖️ What Worked
• Ao Ruipeng — easily one of the biggest highlights
• Li Changshou's unusual “stay hidden and survive” philosophy
• Smart/strategic ML rather than the usual reckless hero
• Situational comedy and character-based humor
• Great ensemble chemistry
• Clever schemes and behind-the-scenes manipulation
• The story actually has substance beneath the comedy
• Fun xianxia world-building
• Surprisingly emotional moments toward the end
• A very refreshing change of pace from heavier historical/xianxia dramas
🚩 What Didn't
• The final stretch felt rushed
• Too much story for only 30 episodes
• Some plot developments could have used more breathing room
• The ending left me BITIN. 😭
• I wanted more closure after becoming this attached to the characters
Angst
Low–Medium, with a noticeable increase toward the finale.
Chemistry
Good, but romance isn't the reason I watched this.
Slow Burn
Not really the selling point. The drama is much more about strategy, survival, relationships, and the larger cultivation conflict than romance.
Genre Type
Xianxia • Fantasy • Comedy • Adventure • Strategy • Cultivation
My Rating
9.5/10⭐
Not because it's flawless—it isn't.
But because I had an absolute blast watching it.
I came in expecting a light xianxia comedy.
I got a clever ML who spends the entire drama trying NOT to become important, an ensemble of characters who somehow turn careful planning into absolute chaos, and Ao Ruipeng making me laugh harder than any C-drama has managed to in a long time.
And honestly?
That alone made the 30 episodes worth it. 🤣❤️

Disappointed for ruin story from original novel
Dissapointed because ruin original story from novel & donghua. Great Mage Xuandu is my fav character from original novel & donghua but this drama ruin his story. Original novel & donghua, Great Mage Xuandu should be pairing with Kong Xuan NOT Wen Jing.Actor Li Changshou is best option as Li Changshou is the only reason i keep watch this til end episode. When this drama released, i was hope to see Great Mage Xuandu with Kong Xuan, but why screenwriter must change original story? Great Mage Xuandu should be pairing with Kong Xuan NOT Wen Jing!!! Where is my beloved phoenix Kong Xuan? I hate to see Great Mage Xuandu with Wen Jing. Totally this drama ruin original novel & donghua!!! Not recommended for people who have watch donghua My Senior Brother is too Steady because this drama story very worst.

Drama about lengths young people have to go to land a job
I think it was very funny and witty. The guy died of cancer, reincarnated in another realm and was simply trying to survive and get a stable job with good salary and benefits.
Great cast, good writing, funny and witty.
The plot is intellectual, with modern world things turned into magic. My favorite was Van Gogh painting confusing cultivators

Ao rui peng didn't held back
ARP didn't held anything back when he did this role. Aside from Peng Yuchang's dramas no one had ever made me laugh like how this drama made me. Especially the scene where he said he was allergic to women and started puking when he tried to prove it LMAO just even thinking abt maked me laugh endlessly. Comedy was the essence of the drama, and you should definitely watch it if you're in the mood for it. But unfortunately i dropped this because of the female lead...
Was this review helpful to you?
Divertido e surpreendente
Comecei a assistir sem esperar muito.Na verdade, nem li a sinopse direito. O que foi muito bom. No ep20/28.
