Pomp and Pageantry

New Years' celebrations at court. It's hard to follow all the palace intrigues between empress and concubine and their respective offspring. The young noble ladies are also in competitive mode. Wan and Ning are amused as they watch the play. Chi is busy strutting his stuff and bolstering the emperor's ego.

Five Stars

Love seeing the dynamic between all the characters in the palace. Good filming techique too to showcase who is on whose side.

Five Stars

No one can underestimate the CD power couple in which one's a thorough coroner and doctor, while the other is a prince-charming investigator.
[Yan Chi + Shen Wan = a force to be reckoned with]

Finishing up case and into political storm

Prince Cheng thought he had it completely in his favor getting rid of the evidence. Now Prince Chi gets to find the culprit for emperor to deal with. It almost makes you feel sympathy for the messed up mind of the serial killer. Not often a boy is lamented. He was warped early on with her rantings and manic behavior. The barbs between the ladies on all levels was evident and fortunately Princess Ning could interpret royal posturing for Wan. Prince Chi was shrewd in pointing to Qin magistrate rather than Wan about coroner findings. It was handled in a way to not embarrass crown prince and to make him look in charge of all the behind the scenes sleuthing. Prince Chi handled it professionally so that there was no appearance of bias to either prince but the performance of duty. I liked Wan’s answer to the mother trying to snub Qin daughter. It put her in her place respectfully and brought honor to all women in general rather than snide backstabbings. I sometimes got tired of the ‘marvel movie’ type moral preaching elements they have included in this drama, but this time found it well placed and needed. It is going to be a tightrope of walking to thread the needle between these political and royal families. I am hoping the incense is not the cause for the dowager’s health failing. After the doctor’s household, I consider them all suspect of foul play.
