Just watch for yourself

It wasn't bad at all. It was just okay. Not sure why so much hate. It had some jokes in it. I mean Bae Suzy's character is supposed to be emotionless. (nothing bad about her but I am still trying get to use to her acting and her screaming)
But it was lovely seeing them on screen again from Uncontrollable Fond.
Overall, I think they k illed their role in this. It was a okay fantasy modern drama.

Fantasy Rom Com with twists and turns

This Kdrama twisted everything up. In some ways it seemed like it was going to be a typical Rom Com, but it turned out to be nothing like the usual Kdrama. It was a fantasy story about a genie in a lamp granting people their three wishes. But it got deep and dark the further you went into the story. Here are some of the twists.

The genie is actually Satan proving to the supreme one that humans are inferior and deserve to go to hell. He uses their three wishes to prove this.
There is an angel who is jealous of Satan who is also his brother, and he is also the grim reaper. Somehow he started a 300-year war....I think.
The girl who rubs the lamp at the beginning of the story is a psychopath who feels nothing, wants to kill someone, and lives her days in a boring routine so she doesn't harm anyone. Her grandmother loves her dearly.
Both Satan and his brother the angel, have sidekicks. One is a panther, and one is an owl who also morph into people and they both like each other.
There is an ancient story of a brother and sister whose demise starts a curse put on Satan, a half-spirit half-human child trying to have a last wish and kill many who stand in the way, a magic thread that weighs someone down from moving, a sword caught in a rock, and somewhere in all of this is the love story of our two main leads. This was terribly confusing and I had a hard tome keeping things straight.

It has not been my favorite drama this year. But it was different and had many good qualities.

GREAT CAST AND SURPRISINGLY FUN

It tells the story of a mysterious genie who grants people’s wishes, but each wish slowly reveals how human desire can lead to greed and corruption. At the center is Ki Ga Yeong, a psychopath who plays a big part in the story’s darker side. The drama mixes fantasy and moral lessons in a way that’s easy to follow, so it doesn’t feel too heavy to watch.

What makes it interesting is how it deals with people’s wishes and how far they’re willing to go once they get what they want. It’s not exactly a new idea, but the way the story is presented makes it entertaining.

I was honestly surprised to see Daniel Henney appear here since the last time I saw him was in The Wheel of Time. His scenes with the chauffeur, Kim, are some of my favorites. Their chemistry is really fun, and they made me laugh a lot. Though, the cgi and vfx are a bit inconsistent, sometimes it’s clearly looks off.

I was expecting more from Steven Noh’s character, but he ended up feeling a bit flat. His role seemed like it could’ve been more important, but it didn’t really go anywhere. Aside from that, I also noticed how the story has a lot of similarities to Goblin.

Genie feels like Goblin himself, Death/Ejlael plays the Grim Reaper type role, and Genie’s sword. Even the plot of Genie trying to save Ki Ga Young from death is very similar to Goblin’s story. Because of that, it doesn’t really feel original, more like it borrowed a lot of ideas from something that already worked before.

Still, the cast really carried the show. Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin have great chemistry, and Suzy’s acting as a psychopath is amazing, she completely owned her role. The grandmother and her younger self also stood out and added a lot of heart to the drama.

Fun Watch

I went into this with no expectations, given the reviews were really negative. however upon watching the first few episodes, I was really hooked. I don’t think I’ve ever cackled this much at a kdrama, it was truly entertaining.

however it did come with some flaws, in episode 12, I felt the story started to become dragged, 12 and 13 felt like filler episodes and watching them made me feel like I wasted my time.

the acting was phenomenal, the cast was just right. the portrayals of each character was such a chefs kiss, especially Ahn Eun Jin, I don’t know how but she just nailed it so well. not to mention Suzy, her acting has came a long way, and she’s improved so much compared to her older works.

overall a very entertaining watch, but the plot towards the end was disappointing. don’t listen to the reviews and give it a watch!!

Finally A Good Deity Romance; Crazy and Fun

My 4 categories are Acting/Cast, Writing, Direction/SFX/Music, Entertainment Value.

Uncontrollably Fond was the first K-drama I began watching (Not the first I'd completed though). I was stoked to see that Kim Woo Bin [김우빈] and Bae Suzy [배수지] would star together in another drama.

Acting/Cast: Suzy isn't the strongest actor but this role was perfect for her. She and her co-star Kim Woo Bin both did a great job. The side characters were good. I liked the casting all around. I would say that Steve Noh [스티브 노], who played the angel character, had the weakest acting (apart from very minor characters). Suzy and Kim Woo Bin had great chemistry together, as expected. 8/10

Writing: I haven't liked a deity romance since Goblin. Genie, Make A Wish really surprised me. It reminded me of Hwayugi except it was actually good—a unique female lead, well-written characters, and an engaging plot. Both this drama and Hwayugi are very chaotic dramas with random shenanigans happening throughout, but this drama managed to keep it all engaging and fun as well as maintain a solid overall plot. Regarding the romance between the leads, I do think the first kiss happened a little to soon (I prefer slow burns). Although the focus of the drama is mostly on the two leads, there are some side stories. However, they are fairly insignificant and, unfortunately, don't get much screen time. The side romances in particular seem thrown in. Also, the ending is a little strange, but it made far more sense than the ending of Bon Appetit, Your Majesty, so I can’t complain too much. 5.5/10

Direction/SFX/Music: The pacing is good. The SFX looks nice. I like the music—it has a fitting Arabian vibe to it. There are a couple songs on the OST that I really like. The song GAME by SOYEON and YUQI, in particular, is awesome. It reminds me of the Doona! OST (which is one of my favorites). 7.5/10

Entertainment Value: This drama was just fun. I didn't expect to like it so much. Especially with a lead being a "psychopath"—I usually don't like plots like that, but this drama does it different. I like that this drama didn't take itself too seriously, broke the 4th wall, and made callbacks to older dramas. 7.5/10

Overall, I gave this drama a 7/10. A score of a 6 or higher is in my ‘would recommend’ zone. This made for a brilliant Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin reunion drama. It was zany, unique, and entertaining. However, I wouldn't recommend this drama to those who haven't seen many K-dramas, since it does have a lot of inside jokes. If you do watch, be prepared for some grade A chaos.

Two Wishes, One Destiny — Suzy and Woo Bin’s Magical Comeback

Okay guys, Genie, Make a Wish brings back one of my all-time favorite on-screen couples — Bae Suzy and Kim Woo Bin! If you’ve loved their chemistry here, please go watch Uncontrollably Fond too (just keep tissues nearby 😭).

Now, about this drama — I absolutely loved how they mixed Arabic culture and language with a Korean storyline. It’s such a refreshing touch because genies do come from Middle Eastern tales, and seeing that represented here was honestly so cool.

The show gives you everything — magical vibes, strong acting, heartwarming friendships, unforgettable cameos, and yes… two love stories from the same couple (you’ll get what I mean when you watch). 💫

On the flip side, I wish the ending (especially episode 12) hit a little harder — it felt slightly rushed for such a beautiful buildup. But still, if you’re a fan of supernatural dramas, magical love stories, and Bae Suzy’s charm, this one is definitely worth your time.

P.S. – I truly admire how Suzy picks her roles — she never shies away from experimenting. And if you want to see her range, check out Vagabond (for the action junkies), While You Were Sleeping (for the romantics), and Start-Up (for the dreamers).

Nice

I don't hate it, but Korean dramas can do better. Like the world building and stuff can be better and more complex like we don't know heaven and stuff or god why bow to a human? what changes when you do that? Before this drama aired I though about what wishes I would make and this is what I came up with:
1. To know everything in the universe.
2. To experience everything.
3. To create and shape reality.
So her making a similar wish was cute. And as always suzy was always slaying her looks. I wanna be pretty like her.

Genie, make a wish

EDIT: So many people find it useful and I decided that in the end it deserves 8/10 (Kim Woo Bin and last episodes made me reconsidered). The rating is the only change in my review.
Warning - SPOILERS!
If you love human-non human love story then you will love this one too. At the beginning it felt like mix of My demon with The judge from hell - if you like this two then one more reason to watch. Mines were simply Bae Suzy and a genre.
Bae Suzy - she was really great in this role, I did not expected that, I am also very happy that in the end she still was a psychopath, chemistry was cute - I really liked when she hacked and saved kiss video. Also I really love some of her outifit (not all, something new cause usually all are great) - her pink outfit in ep 3, black one in ep 6, jeans dress or her pink tweed one. Also her almost crying in some episodes were so well played
Kim Woo Bin - my first drama with him and I really liked him, In longer hair he looked like Michael Jackson XD, his acting or rather his character reminded me of Kang Ha Neul in Tastefully yours.
Ahn Eun Jin - she was so sweet
Lee Joo Young - her homosexuality was so well added, it was not hmm how to say it, it did not feel force, it was natural and smooth - and it was clear she would for young grandma
Ko Kyu Pil - he was so adorable, I really liked his character
Woo Hyun Jin - she was also a great character, wished she did not followed all orders but well she had to, I am happy that in the end she bring BS's memories
What more I had to mention - first kiss scene was great!! I loved the child which who BS's youngself wished to rescue. Ppoppi!! There was some fun cameos and I really like Stray kids's (Han, Felix, I.N.) OST song.
To sum up - if you like fantasy romcom with some sad scenes then let's go and watch this!

Unpredictable events

I am saturated with K drama that is so predictable in its outcomes, that I found this story to be refreshing and full of surprises. I did not take one bit seriously. Afterall it is a fantasy.

I did not expect Suzy as an auto mechanic. Her acting is better than she seems to be getting credit for. Her subdued emotionless aura is authentic. Her psychopathic outbursts were comedic not scary (its a fantasy). For me seeing Suzy acting is a pleasure worth waiting for.

Ahn Eun Jin's (young grandma) appearance on the set was the best highlight of the series for me. Her positive energy and pure joy for her newfound life was wonderful . Thank you for your contribution.

Given the production and directorial challenges faced , Genie Make a Wish is worth viewing.

Kim eun sook’s poorest screenplay

It’s really disappointing watching actors like Kim woo bin and Suzy bring their A game to a show that was so badly written that even surpasses shows like king the land. What explanation is there that this pairing who had amazing chemistry in their previous show, started to struggle in this show around ep 4 itself . The actors also look like they are really comfortable with each other too and both of them are seasoned actors at this stage in their career. They did try their best but there is only so much you can do when the script is this horrible . The story and characters are all over the place . Some gags like the genie being super goofy and switching to ruthless or Suzy bashing him up all the time looked ridiculous after a point. Apart from some high points towards the end like the backstory and Suzy’s final arc everything else is just filler which could have all been wrapped up in 8 episodes instead of 13 . The angel character made zero sense and had zero contribution to the overall storyline. To top it off they got a terrific actress like Ahn eun Jin and gave her little to nothing to do. Don’t get me wrong . I love Kim eun sook’s work . I have watched shows like king eternal monarch several times (which has so many plot holes). But this show is so bad . And I haven’t even touched upon the cultural in appropriations. Please at least do better by the actors and the crew who have put their faith in you

From the very first episode, this drama captivated me with its stunning cinematography and atmosphere. Every frame looked like a painting, and the color palette reflected the tone of the story perfectly. The production team clearly poured their heart into every detail — costumes, music, lighting — everything felt cohesive and intentional.
The performances were equally impressive. The lead actor delivered a nuanced portrayal filled with quiet strength, while the female lead balanced grace and intensity. Even the supporting cast shone in their moments.
What I appreciated most was how the story wasn’t afraid to take its time. It allowed viewers to breathe, think, and feel. By the end, I didn’t just watch a drama — I experienced one. Truly one of the finest pieces of television I’ve seen in years

Shallow Plotline with Quick Pace

Yet another rom com plunged into a pit of downfall. Truthfully, the story of this show ain't really deep and promising from the start. But as things go on, the writer seems to do quite a good job for putting together a Genie and a psychopath. Things are looking better until the story about Khalid kicks in. This part of story is unnecessary, unimpactful and really destroys everything that have been built, especially the storyline about two previous wishes from Ka Young. Everything becomes too makjang-ish, even for a fantasy genre show. The war between Iblis and Elljael is questionable, they fought for years but somehow Iblis able to end it quite easily. The pace of the show is really quick, borderline between enjoyable and confusing. It's not easy to understand a psychopath like Ki Ka Young, but for me it's more difficult to understand how can Ka Young fall for Iblis out of nowhere though she mostly has no emotion.

The visual effect of this show gives an eyesore. It's really awful and I think for a 2025 show, they should've tried harder. On the other hand, the soundtrack is quite great.

The performance of the casts is quite alright, nothing bad but nothing too special. The chemistry between Suzy and Woo Bin is also good. In my opinion, the one who does an impressive job here is Ahn Eun Jin.

Watch this show if you're looking for a quick adventure and when you don't really need to explore some "details".
