K-Drama
Both are in ancient Time setting where women were treated so lightly.
- Both Drama has Strong FL character
-FL has to go many ups-downs to establish herself

Both are about a woman fighting against the odds to rise from a servant to one of the highest positions in the land.
Both are epics with great aesthetics.
Both focus more on the women and their trials and tribulations and developments, than they do on the romance
In both the romantic male leads have significant deficiencies, and their duty means they are not able to honour their love the way they would like if they were a "normal" person
HOWEVER, the main character in the Story of Yanxi Palace is a schemer, and plotter, out for revenge, not trusting, and it takes her quite awhile to make any friendships
In Against the Current, the female lead so far is kind, generous and sociable, she often lives for others as much as for herself

Set in the same Ming dynasty, the two are compared a lot because of similar themes. Both contain a fallen noblewoman who takes on a new identity, and a vibrant ensemble of female characters who showcase how difficult women had it during that time period. They both execute the theme of "accompanying an emperor is as dangerous as accompanying a tiger" but in very different ways.
If you loved Against the Current for its wise, composed FL who navigates difficult situations through intelligence, diplomacy and understanding rather than power, I highly recommend The Prisoner of Beauty. The FL has that same rare kind of strength—she may be delicate, but she is never powerless. She observes, understands, adapts, and knows exactly when words can accomplish more than weapons. And the storytelling is just as satisfying. ??
