the "real" He Yan 2 had liked a playboy Fan Cheng, who enjoyed her attention. He is then engaged / married to another, and real HY2 went to his house to kick up a fuss but was thrown out. This heartbreak cause a hunger strike that killed her and allow HY1 to transmigrate into the body.

Fan Cheng got the cold shoulder from HY1 (as HY2) (not to mention she was more elegant now) and that was bad for his ego. Thus he cooked up a plan to kidnap HY2 onto  a boat and have his way with her for real. However HY2 bro came to save her, and during the struggle HY2 killed him.  She got her bro to wear her clothes and jump off the boat, she sets the  boat on fire, then wears a mask and pretends to be an assassin in front of his guards.

This results her in  faking her own (HY2) death (guards thought she fell off the boat and her body was never found) and used that opportunity to enlist to the milita in order to leave town without going through city gate security.

i would suggest reading arc 3 in HeavenHazel's list..  11 chapters is quick

2. Xiao Jing and Bai Rongwei (Xiao Jue's elder brother and his wife)
- Drama: There's no scene of them together
- Novel: There's a chapter about them missing Xiao Jue since he's not home during the Mid-autumn Festival. 

to be fair - they showed them during the family mid-autumn reunion flashback - though that throws the novel timelines out the window. Not to disrespect but Xiao Jing to me is also badly cast .. he was suppose to be Top 3 Most Handsome in town (top 3 being Xiao Jue, XIao Jing, Chu Zi lan - HY is eating well. ) just that he was already taken. Bring in a handsome cameo or something.

Ma Tianyu is quite good looking but the styling wasn't good ,He was in ICE fantasy and many other dramas .He looked so handsome in ICE fantasy .And i think the handsome list isn't a spoiler 😂

tbh except the leads and  few characters ,i didn't like most styling in this drama ,Also Peter Sheng played Yan He, he is a good actor but i was hoping for someone young for that role .

and also they merged Shen Muxue into Taotao and Lin Shuanghe into Cheng Lisu and made them secondary CP

I'm so sad Lin Shuanghe won't be included.. He was one of my fav character 🫠 same goes for chiwu, qingmei and he yunsheng too.. I kind of like Shen muxue's character too and how she makes He Yan jealous 🤣

wait what? huh? this novel's author really loves husband killing wife trope, aren't they? I was hoping it was love transcend lives trope. What happened to the husband, then? or in which arcs i can read about her ex-husband's fate? 

as one of the conspirators in the killing of He Yan, he was implicated, imprisoned and executed. Chapter 240 covers his fate together with the final conversation with He Yan that gives clarity to the events in the past.

thank you so much for creating this topic! even as a novel reader, as it's been a while, i can't remember certain things and re-reading the whole thing feels like a chore cause it's so long hahaha. this would be handy when i want to revisit certain arcs in the novel cause i get confused from all the changes in the drama.

before watching this i had high hopes for the battle scenes because the novel description feels so vivid. especially during the battle at the sea. however, seeing that this drama seemed to condense many important points, and seemed to focus more on the political and romance side of the story... i guess i have to curb my expectation and just enjoy this as a light romcom with a sprinkle of war-cosplays in between lol.
