I enjoyed this a lot, but there are plenty of issues.

I watched this after Would You Marry Me and Dynamite Kiss. So maybe it's recency bias after having gone through those 2 horrible shows, but I really liked this despite some glaring problems. Maybe part of it is that 2025 had been a rather weak year for dramas..

I have always liked noona romances & Sniper Butterfly's leads are much more amazing than what's the norm in this genre. Despite the actors having a 20? year age gap, they had wonderful chemistry & were most probably very fond of each other. Also Michelle was amazing in every way possible. She is so chic, lively & charismatic that is super rare for Chinese TV & also I really love how fit & healthy she is, my heart breaks when I look at actresses like Lushi -and many others- being pushed into malnourishment.. ML's great too, he is super tall & young providing the perfect contrast with the FL.
Anyway this drama is the prime example why in romance if the casting is strong, then many flaws can be forgiven.

E23 is a really odd episode, feels like 50% of the entire dramas plot happens in it. On one hand it's good that they get the past timeline breakup & the present timeline reconciliation into the same episode minimizing frustration, however there were a great many boring episodes early on, there would have been time to make the plot a bit more even, I don't even know.

I strongly dislike love triangles & this drama has one. However this secondary love interest only gets like 30 minutes of screen time total, so it's bearable. Though there are some rather bad moments involving that guy..

As for what I did not like:
❌ The nastiest noble breakup in my cdrama history, the FL really went out of her way to make it as bad as possible.
❌ The past timeline plot about ML's catchup repeat exam prep school is super boring & oftentimes weird.
❌ About one third of the drama is very boring, especially from ep9 to ep 17 or so.
❌ ML's makeup in the present timeline is crazy thick, though I understand why they did that.
❌ The super boring corporate plots
❌ I loved the younger secondary couple, but hated how little screen time they've gotten and most of their romance happened during the time skip. It's a shame, in the 30 episodes format they have done them dirty.
❌ There were several very forceful kisses & one of them was so bad that perhaps there are fellow MDL readers that dropped the drama shortly after. Yes stealing kisses & being assertive is what the Chinese audience loves to watch, but this was too much for me, even though normally I'm okay with this.
❌ While there is plenty of fun fluff in the final 6-7 epis, I'm somewhat unhappy with the ending, mostly it was just a very mediocre boring way to bring this to a close. Happy endings should pack more of a punch, even if we don't get a wedding or kids, at least walk off into the sunset or something, anything..

Average

I even preferred the relationship dynamics between Yiyang and Chun Chang. The drama dragged in the first 14 episodes. The actor who plays Li Wu is such an amazing actor and did an amazing job portraying his character's feelings. You can literally feel everything Li Wu's feeling just by looking at his face. He wears his feelings on his sleeve. The FL, however, beside her ML pales in her acting skills. Her expressions for everything we're basically almost the same. She even pretty cries. Like, I can't mess up my makeup. She looks perfect even when just waking up. Makeup and hair perfect. Like wtf. And I know you'll say it's normal in these dramas. I know but c'mon... It was just way too obvious in this one. She's the main reason I couldn't enjoy their relationship to the max. Li Wu carries that relationship. Not just with the acting but also literally(like in the drama of course). Cos there's an obvious power imbalance. No apology whatsoever, after 8 years for the heartbreak she caused him when she tricked him into going to the US. Now, i get why she did that cos bro kept making stupid choices, but c'mon. She says stop and that's it. She says "ok, I'm ready now" and he automatically follows along like a lapdog.

As for Chun Chang, I initially disliked her. Cos why did she keep talking and acting towards Li Wu like that? Yeah, he was legally an adult but with his level of naivety back then, her actions felt paedophilic. And then, she started going after Yiyang and I genuinely don't like those tropes where the lady chases a man because of how they portray the ladies. They always come off as not understanding boundaries. However, after learning Yiyang's character and seeing that he was no pushover himself, I grew to start liking their dynamics. Plus, Chun Chang had a bit of character development too. Her tough girl act would literally all just melt away with him. Lol. I liked that.

Cheng Rui pissed me off when he got bullied to go after Li Wu in highschool cos no matter how they explained his reason for doing that, bullying is never justified. Apart from that, he was such a darling. His relationship with Wanwen was cute too.

Chinese mums... Omg. If you're Chinese or know anything about the culture, please answer this. Is it normal to just show up at your kid's house without any announcement whatsoever and actually have access to their house? I couldn't get over that part. Like, no privacy and someone's already punching in your door code. What the hell? Is that real?

With that being said, I also don't like that in cdramas, the kids get wronged by their parents but the kids are expected to make the effort to understand them and patch things up. I hate that shit. Makes my blood boil.

Well, that's all my thoughts on this drama. Bye.

100% romance

this is a truly romantic film that i a pleasure to watch. Bravo to the screenwriter, the main actors are perfectly cast , and even watching it several times doesn't get boring . It's also refreshing to see that someone can still write a normal script where real love is actually depicted . I recommend watching it

I want people to please be open minded and give this amazing lovestory a chance.

This is my favorite age gap romance since Find Yourself.
The fact that this drama is rated this low here is criminal. There are so many mediocre dramas here that get at the very least 8.3 and beyond here. I think it is mostly because of the real life age gap between the leads honestly. The last time I saw such a huge gap was with Dylan wang and Qi lan but somehow that one was received much better by reviewers here; I wonder if it is because they are both very famous already and Michelle our Fl here may be relatively unknown to a lot of the audience....This is my 1st time watching Daniel Zhou either .
Anyways this drama has 1 of the best OST playlist I have heard in a Modern Cdrama...I am obsessed with all the songs.
I want people to please be open minded and remember that regardless of the age gap in real life , our 2 leads are actors did an excellent job with their performances. Their chemistry and kisses were 1 of the best I have ever seen in a Cdrama.
Daniel our ML did an outstanding job with his performance...the way he portrayed a meek, not unsure, timid person...to switch to confident and actively pursuing our FL was a sight to behold.
I want to give praises to Michelle stylist in this drama.....her outfits were always so gorgeous and she did an amazing job as well.
I dont like to spoil in my reviews but I will say to give this drama a chance. It is an amazing lovestory ; 1 of the best of the year.

Sniper Butterfly

Watch out as it may contain some spoilers.

I’ve watched five episodes so far, and I find the show quite good—definitely better than many recent dramas. If you enjoy romance dramas, you might want to give this one a try.

Without giving too much away, the story follows a young boy from a village who is supported by an older “big sister” figure. She helps with his studies, brings him to the city, finds him a school, and even lets him stay at her place during school holidays. They eventually meet again at the workplace, although the drama hasn’t revealed why they were separated.

Hopefully, the story will stay good all the way to the final episode.

Captivating, very watchable beginning.

I started watching this because it was so hated on Viki for the content, but the reviews seemed unfair and not to take enough into account.
These first two episodes were very well made. The way the story is set up is very engaging, watchable, and interesting. Everything is perfectly timed; the music is evocative and makes you relax and take the story in; the acting is at a high level - especially the boy from the village. The soon-to-be ex-husband, although a small part, is very good. The contrast between the village and the city is clearly made. The beginning of this episode is affecting - the weight of unsaid things and the past is heavy between Li Wu and Cen Ji.
These episodes show a high calibre production. Low ratings can only be for the promised future content of their relationship.
This site requires a 'rewatch value'. I don't rewatch, as a rule, so my rating for this will always be low - unless it's something I love that is clearly rewatchable.
