A smooth sailing slow ride

March 8, 2026

WHOA, another Cdrama that is just right to watch in the spring. The blossoming of hope and happiness, a true abundance of joy and healing.

Shine On Me really shined through my heart as I love how thoughtful and calm this series is. It is on the slower pacing but it feels just right. Our ml and fl are such power couples, I love them. They truly embodies being the boss of themselves and a complementary pair. In a way where they do not need each other to be completed rather they complement. I truly had the joy of watching this series and heck I binged it in like two days or so. I love love love green flags and also I love how they utilized both rich leads instead of the classic rich x poor troupe.

The second ML deserves what he got, I think it was his ego and pride that really struck him down. This Cdrama really gives a reality check for some people who is always waiting for the right moment, when in reality you gotta seize the moment or else it will slip away.

Loved it

This was really a super cute love story, no in law drama, i liked how they came together and they stuck with each other.

The more realistic side was the whole energy and solar panels and how they will be a thing of the future.

The characters were well matched and suited each other well. Music was fitting and lovely.

Music was on point,

Characters were well suited and location looked 👌

My heart is overflowing with warm fuzzies!

Oh, it’s so rare for a 10/10 show to come along and have my heart full of satisfaction.
I didn’t even need to complete the full 36 episodes to know it would have that rating, either.
There was not one episode I was unhappy with.

I really enjoyed the show's unhurried tempo.
There was a perfect balance in the slice of life episodes.
Spanning from 2013 to 2028, this drama unfolds without being overtly attention-grabbing.
The gentle story arcs provided a warm embrace, offering a glimpse into the couple's professional and personal lives, which made it feel very relatable throughout. The episodes were consistently cheerful, free from dramatic, non-toxic plotlines or heart-wrenching angst. To be clear, I also like those intense shows that make you cry and fill you with anxiety about what's coming next. But Shine on Me isn’t one of those shows and I was so glad for it. We all need a show to decompress our nervous systems and this was absolutely perfect for that.

I could wax lyrically for days how perfect Xi Guang and Li Yusen are. A male lead who perfected the yearning eyes and the sweetest, most personable female lead (loved all her clothes btw!) their slow burn relationship came so naturally that when it turned to romance it felt so right. And for being an office romance, usually you get the bitchy trouble from coworkers, this show was delightfully non-toxic for any of that nonsense!

It’s notable to mention the gorgeous hugs Li Yusen gave. And the yearning eyes gave me butterflies!

Besides the dumb dad, the rest of the family was great and always made the scenes feel cozy. Loved the cute sidekick cousin and the funny uncle.

Now, let’s talk about second ML.
I had mixed feelings about Zhung Xi the whole time.
For the first four episodes, you could have thought he was the main guy because of how the show told the story of love that wasn't returned – or maybe it was? Our main guy, the fantastic Li Yusen was hardly shown at all in those first few episodes, but Zhuang’s personality was so steeped in low confidence and morose energy that I felt like he was waving “woe-is-me” flags in every scene. In any other show that kind of dark, unapproachable personality, I’m sure he would have made a good leading male, but against Li Yusen, he failed miserably.
He never even tried to win her over, but Yusen was so upfront with his feelings. Oh, swoon!
Seeing Zhuang again at the airport at the end, I felt a pang of emotion for him as he watched the happy family. He smiled sadly, and I figured he was thinking about Xi Guang, the girl that got away because he never really put the effort in to win her all those times her heart was so open to him.
I have an empathetic heart for my fictional characters, and long after the shows have finished, I always wonder what those characters are up to – so my hope is for Zhuang to finally put down his past baggage and to find his own piece of personal happiness.

If you're looking for a happy vibes show, this is the one. It has the same warm, enjoyable feel as The Best Things (IMO)

I could have watched this show for another hundred episodes and been perfectly happy.
I'm confident I'll rewatch this and experience the same comforting feelings.

sweet but not tooth-ache sweet

My 2026 resolution is to write reviews for everything i've watch - so here goes! I just finished the drama and my overall feelings towards this drama is generally positive. In fact, i do not have any criticisms - not even for the slowwwww pacing for the romance to develop cause i felt that it was done very well to stretch 36 eps - not too fast/not too slow. Although it did feel the epilogue ep was tad bit rushed but maybe it could be cause i was very invested lol. I liked the fact that women in this drama were strong and stood their ground, even that annoying college roommate - loads of room for development. I also hoped that her ex-college crush also moved on instead of moping with droopy eyes lol (glad his colleague didnt settle with him). Other that the "mis-understanding" i liked how there was no miscommunications with the leads and their romance took a natural course. I was oddly invested in their work too lol. The boss/sub-ordinate dynamics was also handled well. Suyen knew what he wanted and boy did he get her. Bonus points for this drama to not have meddlesome parents/friends/ exes. Even more bonus points for great communication. I am not usually a fan of romance as a main genre but this was cute and refreshing. I have no complaints!

Mature Storyline, Enough Chemistry, Finding Love Together

First off, I just want to say I'm a huge fan of both ML and FL , so I knew they wouldn't disappoint and they didn't.
The storyline follows Xiguang who has a crush on her collegemate and actively pursues him only to be met with cold and nonchalant reception. Embarrassed by consecutive line of events, she decides to let go and starts working in another city. This is where she meets the future "sun in my life" 🥹 who also has his own issues(don't worry, won't spoil this) and goes down on a road of healing, love and redemption.
The storyline kept me seated, I love the rich x rich trope , felt so balanced. Both were so mature in talking about their feelings, they were scenes where it would have been good to potray miscommunication but they trusted each other to hear what the other had to say. The ML was a simp but not the kind of simp that doesn't have boundaries. He was able to let her know when he needed space and she understood. I enjoyed it so much, it felt like a beautiful romance with just enough drama to keep you glued but not frustrated. 10/10, no Notes

It's a quality show without major nuisances.

This drama is 50% business, 50% romance & honestly even the business part is quite alright, certainly it's far and I mean FAR above the typial cdrama fare. The leads had absolutely amazing chemistry & visual compatibility. The basic romantic plot is very well thought out, how FL is recovering from heartbreak in the first half of the show is quite well done. The slow burn makes sense, it's not just endless time wasting like it so often is. While I normally strongly dislike love triangles, FL's former love interest worked out wonderfully as a storytelling tool, never becoming too annoying, while his presence still added a little flare to the otherwise somewhat bland setting.

While obviously this is pretty great, there were moments when the delivery on various propaganda agendas made me roll my eyes, but I've seen far worse. At the very least China has every reason to be proud of their PV industry..

This show is often compared to dramas such as `Amidst a Snowstorm of Love`and `Love Me, Love My Voice`. In my opinion those are mostly vibe dramas with a fairly limited plot. However this drama is not doing so well on the vibe side, the feels aren't quite there, opposed to that though there is way more plot & the FL has many super satisfying aura farming / face slappy moments. It's worth watching.

The drama OST is not too amazing or anything, but the intro song really grew on me..

Even before I finished it I was thinking when to watch it again

I really loved this series.

For me, the biggest strength was definitely the main couple. They were simply lovely together — sweet, natural, and full of chemistry. Their relationship had a beautiful development throughout the story, and it felt genuine rather than forced. I really enjoyed watching how their connection grew, with just the right amount of tension, emotion, and softness.

The acting was also very good, especially between the leads. Their chemistry made even the small moments feel meaningful, and I think that is what made the story so enjoyable for me. The plot itself was not something overly grand or groundbreaking, but it was nicely written and had a good flow. Some small plot twists fit well into the story and added a nice touch without making things feel too dramatic.

What I appreciated most is that the series had exactly the kind of feeling I look for in this type of drama. It was not overloaded with unnecessary drama, but it still had enough emotional moments to make the relationship stronger and more memorable. It created those pure, warm, romantic feelings that make you smile and dream a little.

Even before I finished it, I already knew I wanted to watch it again. And a few months later, when videos from the series started appearing on my social media, I immediately felt that it was the right time to return to it. Watching it again only reminded me how much I loved the couple and the feeling the series gave me.

Shine On Me(2025) Review

Bruh, this is my comfort drama😭
How can a drama be this good?! The story, acting, cast visuals, OST—everything is so amazing that whenever I watch it, I feel a unique warmth.

And Lin Yusen, how can you be such a perfect friend, boyfriend, husband, and also a responsible father all at the same time?! You've raised my standards so high that choosing a life partner now feels so difficul to me, because there's no one like you. You're the best in every way.

The story is so good that even 36 episodes felt way too short for me. Many people disliked this drama because it's slow-burn but their slow-burn love story completely set my heart on fire.

I highly recommend this drama to everyone. If you can watch it patiently, this drama is bound to become anyone’s comfort drama.

And my personal rating is ♾️/10, because giving it only a 10 would feel far too low

Just one thing... it’s an absolute banger:

Look, if you’re looking for a show that isn’t just about "pretty faces" (even though the cast is stunning), Shine On Me is on a whole different level. This isn't your typical shallow drama; it's a story that hits you right in the feels because it tackles real-life stuff: family, grief, and that social pressure that sometimes makes you feel like you're suffocating.

The Acting & Chemistry: Man, their chemistry is unreal! It’s not just that they look good together—you actually believe them. The pain, the joy, that "I’ve got your back" look... I swear it feels way too real.
The Aesthetics: Visually, it’s a masterpiece. Every scene looks like a painting. The lighting and colors really pull you into that nostalgic and hopeful vibe the show has.
A Plot with Substance: I love that they don’t treat the audience like kids. There’s personal growth, and most importantly, a level of maturity in how they handle problems that you don't see often.
The Soundtrack (OST): I SWEAR, get ready to look up the songs on Spotify because they’ll get stuck in your head. They kick in at the perfect moment to make you tear up.

It’s one of those shows you start out of curiosity and end up giving a 10/10 because not a single minute is wasted. You get hooked on the characters' struggle to "shine" even when the world seems to want to dim their light. It’s healing, it’s intense, and above all, it’s human.
If you haven’t seen it yet, I don’t know what you’re waiting for. And if you just finished it like me, welcome to the "post-drama depression" club.

Worth every moment watching and re-watching Zhao Jinmai and Song Weilong!

For someone who usually waits until a series finishes before I watched, I could not help but to binge watch when the episodes were released two at a at time at 4am and sometimes one at a time. It was agonizing. But someone was right, went back and rewatched once all the episodes were released to get all the nuances.

If you like Gu Man’s other drama made from her books such as Love O2O and You Are My Glory, this drama did not disappoint. Well written and adapted and with the communist propaganda in episode 25. I am only looking for sweet rom-com. Not politics.

But noteworthy episodes are episode 24, 30 and 33. Zhao Jinmai is a young actress, but OH MY! Can she act!! Song Weilong was a favorite of mine as he was so hot in Find Yourself and Go Ahead. Some people say he is stiff. He is not. Healthy love drama with sweet unwavering support from ML as FL goes from young, carefree college student to workplace professional in new technology world while balancing divorced parents and romance.
