I definitely recommend this drama to anyone looking for something very pleasant and comforting to watch. There’s no complicated plot full of twists here - instead, it’s a calm story focused on a healthy relationship between the main characters. Their relationship develops in a natural and steady way. There are no major arguments or dramatic conflicts-instead, we’re given a healthy, almost ideal relationship between two people who are perfectly matched. They’re happy together, deeply in love, able to listen to each other and communicate openly, they trust one another, and they become better people by being together. Once they get into a relationship, they never doubt each other or what they have. Overall, their relationship quickly becomes very sweet, and watching it puts a smile on your face that lasts until the very end. It was a real pleasure to watch them, and their chemistry was very good. Beyond their relationship, we also got to see their individual growth-especially his journey of dealing with the past and maturing, particularly in her career - Nie Xi Guang.

A huge highlight for me, and a perfect conclusion to everything, was the final episode. Starting with the scenes with their daughter, which were wonderful, and ending with showing their growth and professional successes — things they had talked about wanting to achieve throughout the entire drama.

Another big advantage for me were the family relationships. On the female lead’s side: her mom, grandma, grandpa, uncle, and cousin. On the male lead’s side: his mom. First of all, the scenes with all of them were very enjoyable to watch - they usually brought a smile to my face or even made me laugh. Secondly, none of them were against their relationship, which sometimes happens in dramas, so I consider that a huge advantage. A special mention goes to the female lead’s cousin - Jiang Rui. I loved him as a character on his own - he was funny - but I also loved his dynamics with Nie Xi Guang and with Lin Yu Sen.

Among the other characters I particularly liked was Yin Jie. I could relate to her in many situations, and she was a very positive character. I was hoping we might get more of her on screen, maybe through some kind of relationship with Fang Sheng Yi(?) - that doctor friend of Lin Yu Sen.

As for the second male lead - Zhuang Xu - I’ll admit I expected him to be the cause of a major conflict between the main couple. I was worried he would disrupt their healthy relationship once he confessed his feelings. So I was positively surprised when Nie Xi Guang completely shut him down in episode 30 - it made me like her even more. And even though I wasn’t rooting for him, I do have a soft spot for toxic dynamics, so I can imagine an alternate universe where Lin Yu Sen doesn’t exist and I’d actually root for him, because his dynamic with Nie Xi Guang had the potential to be just as interesting — something I’d definitely enjoy watching :D. I was also hoping for some development in his relationship with Chris, but at the same time I’m satisfied that, after everything he did, he’s still pining for Nie Xi Guang, who moved on and built a life without him - just like the other girls did. Naturally, moving on from him to Ye Rong — I didn’t like her from the very beginning, and that didn’t change until the end. It’s hard to like someone so full of insecurities who makes life difficult for a person who has been kind to her from the start. It’s a shame that most of their college peers never found out about the extent of her manipulations, because she would have faced greater consequences if everyone had turned their backs on her. Still, despite my dislike, I am curious about what happened to her after she left, and we never find that out.

As for the downsides, I didn’t find many, and the ones I did don’t really affect the overall enjoyment of the series:
-> First, I was somewhat disappointed with the storyline involving the female lead’s father - Nie Cheng Yuan. He never fully found out that he had been manipulated by Qian Fang Ping and her daughter Nian Yuan. He did find out part of the truth and kicked them out of the house, but he never discovered, for example, that Fang had been faking her illness the entire time. I was hoping for more drama and emotional impact when the truth came out. I also expected stronger consequences once he realized he had been the one used. Later, we also don’t find out what happens to him (we only get a brief mention of the mother). We also don’t know what happened to them after being kicked out, so overall it feels like wasted potential.

-> Second, the storyline involving the male lead’s father. In one conversation, it was suggested that the male lead’s uncle and his wife were involved in the issues surrounding his father, but then that topic just completely disappeared. No one mentioned it again, even though it seemed quite important - especially since their son was supposed to take over the company. It’s possible this was due to a translation issue, so I’m not treating it as a definite flaw.

-> Third, the plotline about taking over the grandfather’s company. This topic appeared throughout most of the drama, but in the end we don’t know who actually inherited the position. There is a time skip of about 10 years at the end, so the grandfather is unlikely to still hold that role.

A beautiful watch

I found myself wandering why this show left such a huge impact on me!? I think it reminded me of the most delicious strawberry, mostly sweet, with a bit of tang/bitterness but so enjoyable it left me wanting more.

I really love a good slow burn and this one did not disappoint! The chemistry between the two leads was excellent, electric, swoon worthy - just all the feels. The supporting cast were great - the 2ML did a good job of getting me to dislike him - I guess that's just great acting on his part 🤣 while some aspects of the overall story were a bit predictable to me, I loved it anyway!

I loved Zhao Jinmai's Nie Xiguang. She was brave, unwavering in her loyalty to her friends, determined and just a strong character. She's wasn't without faults and always had a way of seeing through all the BS but I thought she gave Zhang Xu too much of her heart.

I didn't like Zhang Xu. However, understand he was a necessary character to highlight how obligation, societal expectations and lack of self worth can affect the way you see yourself and others. It wasn't a case of wrong place/wrong timing, it was fear based choices which led to his outcome/s.

On the flip side, you have Song Weilong's, Lin Yusen, a little misguided, broody but a romantic at his core. I felt like his subconscious always somehow knew the truth about Nie Xiguang which is why his endeavours to seek 'revenge' were really child's play. It felt like when Lin Yusen and Nie Xiguang were in the frame there was no space for us, a little too personal, the piercing gazes, the light touches and embraces felt genuine, authentic. I was really hooked by their love story and was rooting for them as I watched their journey!

As I write this, I'm listening to the soundtrack of the series to get me into the flow and was reminded of how the soundtrack was perfect for the show. As of it were vitally important character, carefully underscoring the climactic moments of this beautiful story, particularly the romantic parts. It was beautiful. 'Counting on you' by Zhang Hao and 'You are the sun in my life' by Lu Yuan Yi and 'Uncontrollably' by Ray Hou will be seared into my mind and heart for some time!

I was sad when it finished and hope to see the two leads in more dramas together!

They're the sun and the whole green forest

The main couple has a realistic dinamic, where they meet and start falling in love with each other and at the same time starts to know everything about their families, the dynamics between everyone in the story.
This story is the realest "when the slow burn is slow burning". Would I watch it again? DEFINITIVAMENTE YES.
Even though they're rich, rich, they keep it low, they're smart, conscious, kind, adorable etc.
I just love em.
I think this story is a realistic one between wealthy people or at least i think so.
Btw, the other storyline were good as well.

One of the best dramas i've watched!

just finished this drama, and it absolutely deserves the hype!!

I usually stick to historical dramas because modern ones often feel repetitive to me. But this drama honestly changed my perspective a bit; it felt refreshing and gave me things I’ve been wanting to see in a modern story. One of my favorite aspects was how the conflicts were handled. Problems didn’t drag on forever, Yusen & Xi Guang actually communicated, which made everything feel more realistic and mature between them. We get to see how both characters, Xi Guang and Yusen; learn from each other about love and understanding, honesty between them even.

The romance between Xi Guang and Yusen is a slow burn, but in the best way. Their relationship develops gradually, and you really see the emotional journey behind falling for someone new. It shows how hard it can be to move forward, especially when past feelings still exist. Yusen’s patience and sincerity really stand out, and watching Xi Guang learn that she deserves to be loved and cherished was one of the most touching parts of the drama. He is one of the greenest flags possible, I loved how patient and sweet he was to her. He is definitely better than Zhuang Xu, it's great that Xi Guang gave him a chance to test the waters between them; imo it was the best decision she had ever made in there !!

As for the emotional side involving Zhuang Xu, I have mixed feelings. His character had depth, but a lot of situations could have been handled better on his end. Misunderstandings and unspoken feelings played a big role, and while that added emotional tension, it was also a bit frustrating to watch at times. I just wish he spoke on his feelings more WITHOUT lashing out at her for once. Although he claims he didn't have many opportunities tell her about his feelings; IMO he definitely did have many chances to; he just chose not to do it until later on when she chose to move on properly. I also feel like he should've made it clear that Rong wasn't a thing to him romantically. Also one thing Zhuang Xu should've done is moved on after the wedding incident, when she made it clear she doesn't have feelings for him anymore. He had 2 suitors, yet he chose to follow what already left him furthering to make him have a bad ending for himself. --> Also Zhuang Xu's colleagues imo shouldn't have told him about what they overheard. Sometimes it's not your business to tell + it made Zhuang Xu think it's okay to act up and pretend he didn't have chances before --> making him want to pursue Xi Guang.

Xi Guang as a character is very relatable ; She is not perfect, sometimes avoidant to her issues, and driven by her emotions. Her character shows us the complex emotions that many face with first loves. That made her realistic, but there were moments where better communication might have changed a lot for Zhuang Xu and her. Still, her internal struggles and growth were an important part of the story. I kinda wish she wasn't super avoidant to her problems and faced Zhuang Xu properly. She should've told him not to have further ideas of chasing her. Plus she should've been a bit more honest to him that she wouldn't be around + although she didn't completely move on, she is still testing the waters between her and Yusen. Though, she doesn't owe Zhuang Xu a explanation; I feel like it would've been better if she spoke to him honestly because it only made Zhuang Xu even more obsessed with the idea of thinking it's okay to chase her now because she lied previously.

My favorite character has to be Xi Guang’s cousin, Jiang Rui! He brought so much warmth and humor to the drama. Even though he didn’t have a huge amount of screen time, he was always supportive and protective in the sweetest way. I really wish we got more scenes with him he added such a fun and comforting energy whenever he appeared. (One scene I loved was the snowboarding race :D )

Overall, this drama balances romance, emotional growth, and character relationships really well. It’s heartfelt, mature, and doesn’t rely on unnecessary drama just to keep things going. Definitely one of the more refreshing modern dramas I’ve watched.

Worth my time

I finished the drama at 1.30am this morning and since then, so many thoughts came through my mind. I was mulling on exactly what I wanna write about this drama. Keeping this short as I need to start working soon.

I absolutely love both ML and FL. They both exudes the true loving couple and the chemistry between them is both heartwarming and poignant. Story pace is like any modern C drama pace (that's why I prefer historical) but storyline is good. The drama tells us how our decisions change the course of our lives. Seize the moment. Treasure what you have and do not for a moment take things for granted. I still can't get over it but I have to because..... I need to work now.

Go for the drama. I'm totally in love with the ML now.

Shine On Me: A Delightfully Messy Rom-Com That Actually Shines

The Good Stuff:
This drama is like finding extra fries at the bottom of your takeout bag ...unexpectedly satisfying! The chemistry between our leads crackles like fresh bacon in a hot pan. They've got that rare thing where you actually believe they like each other, not just tolerating each other for the paycheck.
The story follows a classic setup but adds enough twists to keep you from checking your phone every five minutes. Our main characters are flawed humans who make actual mistakes, not those "oops I accidentally became too perfect" kind of mistakes. They mess up, they own it, and they grow. Revolutionary concept, right? The leads carry this show on their backs like they're training for the Olympics. Their acting feels natural, you know, like real people having real conversations, not robots reciting lines they memorized yesterday. The supporting cast pulls their weight too, giving us characters we actually care about instead of just furniture that occasionally speaks. The second male lead deserves a shoutout, he played his role with depth and dignity.

The Brilliance:
Here's where this drama earns its keep: it doesn't treat the audience like we need everything spelled out in crayon. The misunderstandings (yes, there are some before they get together) actually make sense based on the characters' backgrounds and personalities. Nobody's being dense just because the script needs another episode.
The emotional beats hit right. When they're happy, you're grinning like a fool. When they're hurting, you feel it. That's good storytelling.

Pet Peeves & the Lows :
Look, no drama's perfect. There are moments where you want to reach through the screen and shake some sense into people. The classic "just TALK to each other" moments pop up, though thankfully less than most dramas.
Some side plots meander like a tourist without GPS. You're sitting there thinking, "Wait, why are we spending twenty minutes on this when the main story is right there?"
The pacing occasionally takes a nap. A few episodes in the middle drag their feet when they should be running. In the end it does pick up.
Here's the real sore spot: some villains don't get their comeuppance as satisfyingly as they deserve. The female lead's father and his first love slash mistress? They needed a bigger serving of justice than what they got. Sometimes you want to see consequences have some teeth, you know?

The highs:
Once our main leads get together, they stay together. No breakups! They have an actual healthy relationship where they communicate like grown adults. Wild, right? They mature together as they grow closer, supporting each other instead of creating drama for drama's sake. The emotional beats hit right. When they're happy, you're grinning like a fool. When they're hurting, you feel it. That's good storytelling. Every character grows as the drama progresses. This isn't a static cast waiting around for the leads to figure things out - everyone's on a journey. The finale is fantastic with no shortcuts taken. They didn't rush it or phone it in. Even better? The epilogue is extended, giving us that sweet satisfaction of seeing where everyone ends up. It wraps up in a way that feels complete and earned, leaving you with serious warm fuzzies.

Wrap up:
Shine On Me is comfort food drama , it won't change your life, but it'll make your evenings better. It's got heart, humor, genuine emotion, and a healthy relationship that doesn't rely on manufactured breakups to create tension. The extended epilogue is the cherry on top.
Worth your time? Absolutely. Just maybe keep snacks handy for those slower middle episodes, and prepare to be mildly annoyed that certain characters got off too easy.

One of the most mature and healthy relationships ever <3

This drama was one of my absolute favorites that I have watched this year! Lin Yusen and Nie Xiguang are one of my favorite couples ever! Their love story is just so beautiful, and also very healing. I absolutely love how Yusen quietly protects her and also allows her to shine. He sees her as an equal in every way, and he is also her biggest supporter, as well as her safe space. The way that they protect and love each other was so heartwarming to watch! Zhao Jinmai and Song Weilong were amazing in this drama, and I do hope they have future projects together <3 I loved how mature their characters were and how healthy their relationship was!

Their chemistry was so natural, and nothing felt awkward or forced. I love how they go to bat for each other when necessary. I also adore how patient Lin Yusen was, especially as Xiguang was still conflicted about her ex-crush from college. He still pursued her, but never pushed her or anything of the sort. He allowed her to work through her inner conflict and was there for her regardless of the fact that they weren't in a relationship yet. The ending to this drama was so cute, and I absolutely adore this show so much!!
