Honestly, I enjoyed this series, there is a lot in the first episode but like sometimes I overlook it and judge by how long I can watch it without cringing out. It was sweet at times but also like oh! I mean overall cute, kind of sad for the husband but like I mean... yuri... yuri is always the answer. The daughter was the reason I stayed watching, shes so cute like I love kids but like then I dont cuz my child (friend's sister who I often babysit) pmo a lot and shes a ragebait i swear.. offtrack whatever, but good overall :) I kind of forgot about this series, but the second season a little more wild, also ty for introducing me to imase.

Good with flaws

Overall I felt like this was a strong drama. At its core, the emotional portrayal by both leads is top notch. The supporting cast is all very good, other than the villain who has a jarringly cartoonish demeanor.

Early on I found it a bit hard to follow, due to the amount of flashing back, and maybe not enough indicators whether a given scene is present time or not. This sort of small editing choice made it hard to keep a perspective on the characters' emotional states in any given scene. Not terrible, but for me it was a noticeable drag. Maybe it adds rewatch value?

But by the second half, what before were just some questionable editing jumps, turns into a pile of either plotholes or very unsatisfying writing choices. A lack of consequences becomes a pattern, and people reacting inexplicably, or the reasons for a plot reversal are just never communicated. This pattern reaches a culmination in the final episodes.

Luckily there is a season two, so maybe if they felt rushed, they can sort out some of that ending still.

Ok recap--

THE GOOD:
- I actually love getting stories where queer people have biological children. Life is complicated
- No but for real the leads are amazing
- And yes the office friend crew vibe is on point
- ...did Imase produce this. idc I am onboard with the soundtrack

THE BAD:
- Personally found it hard to follow the emotional landscape between flashbacks and present day.
- Cartoonish villain is almost compelling but the writing just didn't support her behavior. There was a real story that could have been told about her toxic obsession, but it was reduced to a scooby doo villain
- Often Fuyu's behavior doesn't make sense. Which sometimes can be believable, emotions can make people do things that even they don't understand.
- Fuyu was straight up worse than the villain -- no seriously, almost beat for beat the villain enters the office and does each of the same things that Fuyu did when she joined the team, but the villain did each one like 5% less harshly. But then we act like only the villain was toxic. I never felt like Fuyu regretted any of it.
- Rushed ending
- Major plot points never resolved: The mom that bribed her is never brought up again, and also is never brought up as a concern anymore. Considering the impact of that action, ignoring it is wild. The BFF is also never brought up again, she exclaims 'You did it for that selfish reason!' storms off, and we just never hear anything from her about it again.
- If i hear 'Well in China.." one more time, I will scream. Not only is it super repetitive but also it is such a weird framing to portray the Chinese company behavior and perspective this way.

No but for real, no consequences or just plotlines that are started but don't land an emotional resolution:
- Fuyu never takes responsibility for any of her toxicity except when she's breaking down and apologizing vaguely, but even that seems to just be misdirecting blame away from her mom onto herself?
- The mom that caused this entire misunderstanding, gets absolutely zero consequences or even plot resolution.
- Even Itsuki doesn't really own her role in the original breakup. Everything is just carried by vibes, things are forgiven just because the chemistry is so damn good XD No I mean, I get it, but also these are opportunities to enrich stories about serious emotions. Reduced to a superficial gesture at depth.
- The office villain gets handwaved off stage, I guess she loses her job? No emotional resolution about her actual crush motivation for being a crazy villain about everything.
- The person Fuyu fired just returns to the team. Nobody talks about it ever again.
- Itsuki's BFF gets no consequences for betraying her other than scolding/ghosting, he just gets an epilogue where he gives the money back to return the photo (as if that could be a thing??) tbh this is one of the clearest plotline endings so I guess we should be happy with this much.
- The spy is never confronted by anyone, actively continues to be present in the story and gets a seemingly happy ending at the animation studio. This betrayal was actually a major twist but just never given an emotional resolution, other than some implication that she helped flip the animation studio by telling them that 90% of them would be fired at the new company. I guess offscreen we forgived and forgot? tbh significant harm being responded to with the barest of apology is an unpleasant pattern in this drama.
- The husband goes to the store and doesn't come home for DAYS. Yes I think he was being mistreated in the relationship, but there is a kid involved, his character at least deserves the space in the story to explain what was going on or what he needs to change. Just a vague 'my bad' and an ending where they both are just like 'uh i want to keep trying' without actually talking about any of their issues, and they have multiple big ones.
- And obviously the main couple's ending is the worst offender of all. Gestures at major decisions without any real discussion followed by gestures at undoing those decisions. I don't even care if you are going to flip and flop back and forth, but can we just get clear landing of each emotional beat? Why the flip? What is the consequences of the flop? So many opportunities to add texture and depth, just skipped.

game chaser w merece uma garrafa de champanhe derramada sobre sua cabeça.

vi alguns comentários no reddit sobre esse draminha e fui atrás de assistir, felizmente é curtinha, já que se prolongassem não acho que seria tão assistivel.

começando pela química das nossas mc e fl, inicialmente descrevi elas como "esteticamente não combinam", mas ao decorrer do episódio acabaram ganhando minha simpatia, apesar de ter simpatizado com o maridão da fuyu, acabei me vendo na torcida por elas.

quanto às demais personagens, gostei da galerinha do trampo, todas personagens carismáticas com seus charmes individuais, apesar de coisas inexplicáveis como a súbita espionagem da risa, não entendi qual foi o propósito daquilo até agora.

na questão antagonista, aí a qualidade começou a despencar, vilões totalmente cartoonizados e que dão vergonha alheia, ações totalmente inexplicáveis, expressões caricatas e vergonhosas, verdadeiramente uó do borogodó.

um ponto a se destacar: ambas as partes do casal se identificam e se rotulam lésbicas, inclusive onscreen, é bem explícito, PORÉM, a fuyu diz que AMA o marido, fica claro que ela disse isso no sentido romântico, o que não faz o menor sentido e me deixou deveras encucado.

no quesito musical, li algumas reviews que odiaram mas não achei taaaaaaao ruins como esperado, são ok, nada que eu escutaria por livre e espontânea vontade, mas se adequam a utilização, fazem sentido ali pra mim.

no geral, é um jdrama okzinho, nada demais, watch leve e boa pra passar o tempo, final bem bleh mas já sei que tem uma segunda temporada então não me estressou tanto.

Disappointing

I pretty much only started watching this because I saw people talking about it online. I’m also a fan of the 48/46 groups so it was cool to see a couple of faces I knew. Mostly I watched it bc it’s gay lol.

The first several episodes were okay, the characters and plot are kind of cheesy so I didn’t mind when things were over exaggerated or when characters didn’t react in a way that made sense.

The plot with the company and the game production got really lost by the end. it’s really hard to follow.


I think my biggest issue with this is…. (spoilers below)

I do not like that we are meant to root for Fuyu and Itsuki despite the fact that Fuyu’s husband is a pretty good guy. He had every right to be upset in the end, but then it made NO sense for the both of them to agree to stay together despite Fuyu saying that she’s a lesbian. I get that they undo this in the last scene. But by that time, it’s so ambiguous as to whether Fuyu is still with her husband or not. I have to feel bad for him and for Tsuki. it’s awful when WLW/GL media do this trope where the one woman cheats on her partner. But yeah, why would Gou even agree to stay with Fuyu after all of that? Just very strange.

Another annoying thing was the very perverted men in the show, but it’s not too uncommon in Japanese dramas unfortunately, so I am never surprised when there’s a gross character.

Idk. Knowing the title, I wasn’t expecting anything amazing, but it still let me down lol

Chaser Game W è una piccola perla nel panorama dei GL.

Offre rispetto alle altre serie GL una prospettiva più equilibrata e una gamma più variegata di sfumature relazionali. Le due protagoniste mostrano un´alchimia meravigliosa, in una storia che si destreggia tra dinamiche lavorative, sfide interculturali, problemi coniugali e le complessità della maternità.

Il ridotto minutaggio e il basso budget hanno limitato un'esplorazione più ampia dei temi, ma la delicatezza e la profondità di come hanno sviluppato la trama è lodevole.

Dal punto di vista romantico, troverete toni pacati e dolci tipici della cultura giapponese. E anche se vi è un'assenza del tumulto emotivo (spesso trash) presente dei GL Thailandesi, questa piccola serie in cambio offre qualcosa di più realistico e semplice.

GL intense, riche en émotions, qui propose une relation imparfaite mais captivante

Chaser Game W propose un GL au ton plus mature, avec une romance marquée par un passé compliqué entre deux femmes qui se retrouvent dans un contexte professionnel tendu. L’histoire suit Itsuki, employée dans une société de développement de jeux vidéo, dont la nouvelle supérieure n’est autre que son ex-petite amie Fuyu, créant une dynamique love-hate chargée d’émotions.

Le drama joue beaucoup sur la tension psychologique et le passif entre les deux personnages, avec une relation marquée par des non-dits, des regrets et des blessures encore présentes. J'ai trouvé cela riche en émotions. Ce n’est pas un GL particulièrement léger : l’histoire aborde des thématiques plus adultes comme le monde du travail, la pression sociale et les compromis personnels, ce qui apporte une certaine profondeur aux personnages.

L’alchimie entre les deux actrices fonctionne bien et permet de rendre crédible la relation complexe entre amour et rancœur. On ressent une tension constante entre elles, ce qui maintient l’intérêt tout au long des épisodes. Le format ( 8 épisodes) rend le rythme assez efficace, même si certaines intrigues secondaires auraient mérité plus de développement.

La réalisation reste sobre mais efficace, avec une ambiance professionnelle qui change des cadres scolaires ou universitaires souvent utilisés dans les GL. Le contexte du studio de jeux vidéo apporte une touche originale au genre et permet d’explorer une romance queer dans un environnement adulte.
