Pursuit of Jade Episode 40 Reactions
I love love this show overall. But out of the whole thing, eps 39-40 are my least fav. The finale was a bit anti-climatic, rushed, and didn't show their happily ever after life but instead we got a useless 'what if' scene. I'm just glad they at least got a happy ending though.

I haven't seen a drama that I've liked this much in a long, long time. The actors/actresses were well cast, even the secondary characters, not just the main leads, although I am now a big fan of both Zhang Linghe and Tian Xiwei. The plot was well thought out, engaging and generally paced well. A little slow in the beginning and perhaps a little rushed at the end, but overall, still very good. I especially appreciated that this was like a throwback Wuxia drama similar in style to the old Jin Yong novels. There wasn't the modern emphasis on CGI fireworks to replace actual fighting that you see in Xinxia shows, nor the mumbo jumbo made up plot points to fill in gaps in the storyline. The sets, the costumes, makeup, cinematography, everything was top notch. Just a well-made, well thought out story. I have to say that the director was very, very good, and I will look forward to seeing more shows from him in the future.

I was lokking for more. It sems that they didn't know how to do a good ending to the history (that was very good at the beginning).

It's a ridiculous story line.... I thought the last episode give something memorable, but It’s nothing more... The full Drama story very beautiful I can't explain it.. But the end could better than It.

Yeah, it's the Grand Finale for some characters meanwhile Grand Entry for some characters.I love the cover of Boaer and Ning. Yep ,we all are living, surviving , doing right and wrong, but and at the end of day, leaving legacy for future generations is the most important thing right. Hope all the ppl in the world can live in own Lin'an town without war and chaos, all the warrior can protect their mother land, all the men are like XZ , respecting women ad children, drive away evils and all the women are like CY, strong, loving and fighting for the own dignity, family, loved ones ,the country.May the whole world peaceful, prosperous and free from tyrant evils.Thank you Team POJ for very beautiful memories.Thank you all MDLers for giving very beautiful viewing experience.Have a nice day Everyone.Love You.

How could they even think of making an episode about a double life? What would happen if this or that? It's incomprehensible; I didn't like the lengthening of these filler episodes. I wanted the complete wedding of the first, second, and third actors.

I'm disappointed. The ending was so underwhelming. CY and XZ deserved more. We didn't even see them remarry or have their children. Oh well it is what it is I guess...

Absolutely flawless. A tour de force of storytelling. I understood every single thing that was happening at all times. The politics? Crystal clear. The revenge arcs? Perfectly motivated. The reasoning behind every character's every decision? Transparent as glass. I was never once sitting there staring at my screen wondering what on earth was going on and why anyone was doing anything. Not even once.We start with Fan Changyu and Yan Zheng playing house like a wholesome couple, and then naturally, as all stories do, it transitions into war, separation, army enlistment, and assassinating generals with zero prior combat experience. A completely normal and steady pace. No notes. The capital and officialdom arc was particularly enlightening. I understood all of it. Every bit. Completely. And the post credits scene — an isekai transmigration ending casually inserted into a drama that had zero fantasy elements for its entire runtime? Inspired. Visionary even. Exactly what the story needed. I am not confused at all.

First Impression
A heavy finale where the truth finally comes out… and no one walks away untouched.
Episode Thoughts
The episode dives straight into the truth about what happened 17 years ago, centring on the Prime Minister. While he didn’t directly cause the massacre, his actions led to devastating consequences — including the male lead’s mother’s suicide and everything that followed. It really reframes his character; you can understand parts of his past, but the damage he caused is undeniable.
Then we see the fallout with Qi Min, whose ending feels like the true bittersweet conclusion. Imprisoned and ultimately poisoned by Manager Yu, it’s a quiet but powerful end. After everything — the obsession, the destruction, the chaos — it feels like justice, but there’s still something tragic about how far he fell.
The episode also reveals that the grand tutor was deeply involved alongside the old emperor, showing that this entire situation was built on years of manipulation and power struggles, not just one person’s actions.
The return to Lian Village is such an emotional highlight. After everything, seeing the female lead come back to where it all began — welcomed by familiar faces — feels grounding and full circle.
We then get a time skip, showing a more peaceful future, and that mirrored moment of the leads riding out together again is just perfect. Her repeating his words about protection? Full circle in the best way.
The alternative ending is interesting, showing what life could have been like without all the tragedy, but I’m still unsure about it. I think I would’ve preferred more time spent on the actual ending and side character closures.
Character Notes
• Female Lead: Strong until the very end. She carries the truth, the pain, and still moves forward.
• Male Lead: Knowing what happened to his mother makes his story hit even harder. Loyal and steady throughout.
• Prime Minister: A complex character — not the direct cause, but responsible for consequences that changed everything.
• Qi Min: A tragic figure. His ending feels deserved, but still quietly sad.
• Grand Tutor: Far more involved than expected, adding another layer to the political chaos.
Final Thoughts
A powerful and emotional ending that ties up the main story while leaving a few mixed feelings. Not perfect, but still satisfying — especially with that full-circle journey. No matter what, they were always meant to end up together.
Favourite Moment
The return to Lian Village — emotional, warm, and the perfect full-circle moment.
Trope Check
• Fate / destined lovers
• Bittersweet justice
• Revenge & consequences
• Political conspiracy
• Full circle ending
• Alternate timeline / what-if

After a whole month on this rollercoaster, episode 40 really said “we stick the landing,” and honestly, bravo. It wraps everything up so neatly that my brain didn’t have to play detective for once. Wei Yan finally spills the full tea about what went down 17 or 18 years ago, and plot twist, the late emperor was the real villain all along, a full tyrant in emperor robes. It hit me right in the feels because Wei Yan was never truly evil, just another pawn crushed under a twisted system, and hearing that made both Xie Zheng, Chang Yu, and me collectively go oh no. So yes, I’m oddly relieved he got a poison ending instead of something straight out of a horror manual. Then there’s Qi Sheng, poor man completely losing it after years of being a puppet, and you can just feel the weight of everything he endured. Guan Yun Peng absolutely delivered here, like sir, you did not come to play. Qi Min’s final moments with Qian Qian were another highlight, messy, emotional, but somehow peaceful. Deng Kai brought such raw humanity to Qi Min that I almost forgot all his red flags for a second. Their goodbye felt like the final page of a toxic love story, and I appreciated that Qian Qian didn’t break down crying. It wasn’t relief, it wasn’t heartbreak, it was just moving on, like closing a chapter you never want to reread. Bao Er becoming Emperor Qi Yu felt like fresh air after all the chaos, and with Xie Zheng, Chang Yu, and Qian Qian guiding him, I can actually believe in a peaceful reign for once. But let me scream about Bao Er and Chang Ning because their candy snacking conversation was peak soft content. That innocent promise, that quiet loyalty, and him asking her to be empress instead of granting her a princess title made my heart melt into a puddle. It’s cute but also carries so much weight for their future story, like a gentle setup wrapped in sugar. Li Xing’s ending surprised me too, I was fully expecting a tragic downfall, but exile with everything stripped away felt fitting in a quieter way, like the story choosing healing over more blood. When Chang Yu, Xie Zheng, and Chang Ning return to Lin’an Xigu Lane and Chang Yu finally calls Madam and Uncle Zhao her parents, I was done for. Tears, actual tears. That found family moment hit harder than any battlefield scene. And speaking of romance, the love knot tree scene was just chef’s kiss. Xie Zheng writing his name on all the knots so Chang Yu would always end up with him no matter what is peak devotion, no notes. Ending the drama with them marching into battle together felt so right, power couple energy till the very end, and now they even have two kids, I needed at least one domestic scene, just one. The alternate reality easter egg was like a soft what if dream, everyone happy, no massacre, friendships intact, Qi Min as a decent crown prince, and the whole gang just vibing at Qian Qian’s place, sweet, warm, and slightly bittersweet. I also loved the little callback of Qi Min getting nauseous near Qian Qian, like fate really said not today in every universe. Overall, this finale gave closure, emotion, and just enough sweetness to heal all the chaos before it, a satisfying goodbye that feels like a warm hug after a very long journey.
