City of Romance (2025)

In both productions, the FL is a fan of a comic book author whom they later discover has become a friend and even fallen in love with the idol.

They are both cute and almost drama free campus romance dramas. Both male leads try to do an experiment on the female lead and end up falling in love with her. The female lead is bubbly and energetic, while the male lead is cold and quiet. Both are very relaxing dramas with great chemistry between the main leads and great acting. They are also both not dubbed and the actors use their real voices.

These two shows differ quite a lot in tone and plot, but they both focus on the philosophy and reasoning behind why people lie. They both explore the many reasons why people lie to protect themselves, protect others, to hurt others, to brag, or simply out of fear. They cover the topic with nuance, individual and complex characters, and don't tell you what's right or wrong, but simply talk about it.

In the city of romance, the FL lies to protect herself due to trauma and ends up compulsively lying quite often. She works through her anxiety and grows as an individual whilst dealing with her lying until she begins to feel safe enough to be honest.

In Usotoki Rhetoric, there are mysteries each episode with the lead characters having to unravel the lies of the people involved. The FL is able to hear lies and she learns the reasons why people lie in each episode which helps her to reflect on herself and her ability.

Both sweet romantic stories are about FLs who are hardcore fans of famous authors that turn out to be the MLs.

MLs falls in love with FLs first without the other knowing their real identity.

If you have watched Love Me Love my voice this is a drama that gives a similar vibe and would ease the “missing “ of that drama.
The ML of both dramas are in the medical field professionally and have a secret artistic famous persona
The FL in both dramas is a fan of the ML’s alter ego and gets to know him in both personas.
Their relationship is low-angst in City of Romanc but Love Me Love My Voice. has zero angst.
If you watched City of Romance and enjoyed it first - go - run. - watch Love Me Love My Voice. There is no traumatic childhood aspect but the music takes it over the top.

These dramas aren’t exactly similar, this one’s more about e-sports but also romance. If you liked the FL’s acting in ‘City of Romance’ she acts as the FL in ‘Gank your Heart’ as well. Go watch it!!
