Two performers from different fields have to come together to collaborate on a new series, "A Playful Kiss in Likay Style," with likay hero Ja helping lead man Jack prepare for his role. On the outside, everything appears to flow seamlessly, but behind the scenes, the two are clashing like mad. dancing and romance with some serious parts
Overall: there are aspects I really enjoyed about the series such as the ex and how it was handled, but there was a very jarring part at the end of episode 7. Based on a book with the same title which I haven't read and I am reviewing this series based on it's own merits. 10 episodes about 45 minutes each. Aired on Let Me Into Your Heart YouTube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAtoaKETK9kContent Warnings: vomiting (episode 4 part 3), murder, blood and grief (episode 7 part 4)
Watch Suggestions (to focus on the main m/m couple and side m/m couple sweet moments)
- watch episode 1 all parts for the set up
- watch 2/3 beginning-7:45
- watch 3/1 if you enjoy watching dance
- watch 3/2 beginning-7:30
- watch 3/3 3:20-5:10 and 8-end
- for episode 4 stop part 4 at 9:30
- watch 5/2 and 5/3
- watch 6/1 9:50-end
- watch 6/4 beginning-3:15
- watch 7/2 10:45-end (is emotional but explains some things)
- watch 8/3 5:30-end
- watch 9/4 3:20-8
- watch all of episode 10
What I Liked
- the costume/dance aspect
- clear premise
- non cliche ex, and another non cliche love rival
- Jack was mature about things in episode 7
Room For Improvement
- did not always feel the chemistry between the two
- the side m/m couple dynamic switched very fast and then they disappeared for several episodes
- Ja could have communicated more clearly with Jack
- what on earth was episode 7 part 4, it did not seem to fit with the rest of the story and came out of nowhere, I took .5 off my rating for this
- very cringe to have a tribute concert to someone who has died and then say what Jack said
- nonsense, some people would support them from the announcement
- not sure who that woman was in episode 10 but fairly sure she didn't deserve such fast forgiveness
- unsure of what the ending left us with, he could definitely still perform if he wanted, it didn't need to be the end of his career
(note: I watched episodes 9 and 10 with auto translated English subtitles)

Surprisingly Decent for a Low-Budget BL
Was this groundbreaking? No. Did this teeter on the line of almost being dropped? A couple times! However, as poorly written as this low-budget BL was, it was entertaining and incredibly endearing to learn more about Thai culture, Likay, the gorgeous costume, the detailed pre-preparations before a show, and of course, Poy Tanutcha.Let's Dive In.
I kind of hate the synopsis because it makes it seem like Ja and Jack absolutely despise each other. That might be true for about one episode, but after that it really is not the case. Ja and Jack come from two completely different corners of the entertainment industry. Ja runs a Likay troupe, and Jack is brought in to learn from him for a role in an upcoming series. From there, the story unfolds with a couple of side plots. One side couple is incredibly gorgeous but not particularly compelling, and another less meaningful love story includes a random death, because why not?
I loved the beginning of this because of how enamored Jack was with Ja, even without outright saying it. In episode two, while watching Ja do his makeup, he asks, “Why do you look so beautiful?” I have not felt butterflies like that in a while. That scene alone had me hooked for the rest of the series, even when everything else is pretty imperfect.
A lot of chaotic and unnecessary drama happens. I did appreciate that Ja was given real history. We see his past relationship with his ex, and they even share a kiss. It's rare to see a lead kiss someone outside their main pairing in a BL, so that felt refreshing and realistic. Beyond that, we get the usual “We can’t be together because you’re a celebrity” conflict, along with frustrating back and forth tension that sometimes happens within the same episode. The side couple is gorgeous, but not very significant to me. Very annoyed of their random back story, but whatever.
I was initially annoyed with Fern, but she ended up becoming one of my favorite and strongest characters in the cast. That shift also made me grow more fond of Poy as a Likay dancer.
Incredible costuming, gorgeous singing and dance, beautiful, flawless makeup, and an okay love story between the leads. There are plenty of continuity errors, especially Ja’s constantly changing hairstyle, but for what feels like a one hundred dollar budget and a dream, this was enjoyable enough.
Ratings:
Story: 7/10 - Beautiful Likay, everything else is okay. Lots of annoying back and forth between the leads, a random death for no reason, and everything else outside of that is just okay.
Acting: 7.5/10 - Eh! But, not the worst thing in the world, especially for new actors like Poy and Zaleng. Cooper, Atom, and Kimmy.... what are you guys doing here??
Music: 9/10 - Really enjoyed the music and singing. It a different style than what I'm use to, and it was lovely.
Recommendation Value: 6/10 - It's an easy and fun watch. It's a small production company, so give it some love.
