Gladiator in the Theater (2026)

Set against the turbulent backdrop of the late Qing Dynasty and early Republican era, this biographical drama is loosely based on the life of legendary Peking opera pioneer Tan Xin Pei. The story follows Meng Jin Fu, a boy born into poverty with seemingly mediocre talent. After completing a grueling, traditional opera apprenticeship at the age of 18, he starts at the absolute bottom of the theatrical world. Through sheer resilience, he rises from a minor martial comic and acrobat to a celebrated martial lead, eventually mastering the prestigious senior male roles. Navigating the changing tides of a volatile era, he transforms from an obscure, struggling newcomer into a revered master, securing an enduring legacy in the capital’s fiercely competitive Pear Garden.
