If you like Pursuit of Jade, then you might like The Road to Glory. Both are historical romance costume dramas starring Zhang Linghe as well as the same screenwriter, Zhou Yue. Both center on a love between high ranking nobility and a commoner, seeking truth and revenge in the midst of war, battles, and palace court intrigue. In The Road to Glory, the male lead rises from the ranks to become powerful while the female lead experiences a fall from grace and goes on a mission for revenge. Their love and alliance is put to the test.
If you loved the captivating "fallen princess seeking justice and survival" trope in The Road to Glory you should definitely check out The Long Balad. The female lead Li Changge is a deposed princess who refuses to be a damsel in distress. She relies on her brilliant intellect and strategic mind to reclaim her throne after a devastating political collapse, offering the same intense vibe of a strong, independent woman fighting against fate.
• High Stakes Historical Political Romance
Both dramas seamlessly blend intense romantic plotlines with court politics, power struggles, and high-stakes survival, ensuring the plot remains gripping and substance-driven.
• Themes of Secret Identities & Deception
The main characters in both stories must hide their true identities and motives to achieve their goals, creating constant narrative tension around whether their masks will slip.
• Slow Burn, Trust Building Chemistry
The romance in both shows is not instantaneous. Relationships are built from initial suspicion and calculated alliances, slowly evolving into profound mutual trust and devotion.
• Smart & Resilient Female Leads
Instead of damsels in distress, both female protagonists are portrayed as highly strategic, independent, and capable of navigating dangerous political landscapes on their own terms.
• High-End Costume & Production Aesthetic
Both projects boast top-tier production values, featuring lavish traditional costumes, detailed historical sets, and a highly cinematic atmosphere that appeals to period drama enthusiasts.
