Shine (Orchestric Ver.)
I have to wonder who did the historical research for Shine. I saw the moon landing live on TV in 1969. In the Central daylight savings time zone, it occurred around 2:30 or 3:30 A.M. Given the difference in time zones, that would place the event around midday, certainly not after dark in Thailand
Did I spy one of the cast carrying a Patricia Nash book bag with the Italian map motif printed on it? Just be aware that the Patricia Nash brand is only 20 years old.
The clue to the passage in the library book is given in Library of Congress format. In 1969, the Library of Congress system was not in use, everything was in Dewey Decimal format.
The series takes place during the height of the Vietnam war and the Cold War. Yet there is no evidence so far of the military dictatorship’s backing by Washington or any CIA activity in Thailand. Given that the student activism was heavily influenced by Chinese Communism, this is hardly realistic. Did I miss references to the CIA in the first 4 episodes?
Now that Shine is on Netflix here in the US, I won’t be the only one scratching my head over the frequent historical in in this series. I’d be curious to learn what Thais who lived through these events feel about the accuracy of the time and events depicted in this series from a local Thai perspective.
