A nice censored GL with really high production quality !
This show has a really interesting premise, amazing cinematography & production quality. It was a nice comedic & lighthearted watch, liked the girls' acting & dynamic. I've seen Yang Fu Fu in 2-3 GL, she's really sweet & cute. Got amazed by Vicky Liang too. You should give it a try, it won't disappoint you, worth of your time.Was this review helpful to you?

A very enjoyable short drama!
The lead actresses have wonderful chemistry and are a joy to watch! I've enjoyed watching Yang Fuyu in a number of mini dramas and plan to check out Vicky Liang's dramas (she really impressed me as Gu Jinyu).I really liked that the heart of the story remained on the leads' relationship with each other. imho tone-wise, the series tends to shift towards drama as the story goes on (once a particular antagonist shows up). I was a bit worried towards the end, but all ends well for our heroines.

disappointing as a "girl's love" story
So firstly I should probably mention that I watched this on iQiyi and the English subtitles were AI translations so I'm sure there were tons of mistranslations because a solid 25% of dialogue was just completely incoherent collections of words that the AI spit out which sometimes I could gather the meaning from context and other times I was just completely lost. The first two episodes were deeply upsetting as we see Gu Jinyu gagged and held by two guards as she was forced to perform a marriage ceremony with Bai Yunxi and then Bai Yunxi is eager to have her wedding night and Gu Jinyu is very clearly not willing and the only reason it doesn't happen is because they are interrupted. If you can stomach the first two episodes, it does get better, but any entertainment I was finding is completely soured in the final 4 episodes. As Gu Jinyu has been presenting as male for most of her life, Bai Yunxi is unaware of this fact until it's exposed and... honestly her reaction comes off as her being disgusted with the fact that Gu Jinyu is a woman, esp given she already knew who Gu Jinyu's family was prior to learning about her disguise.Anyway, there's a lot going on, but honestly the heart of the story is Gu Jinyu and Bai Yunxi getting closer as they work together as business partners and Xiao Tian Hu, Bai Yunxi's brother (I don't think biologically? it's impossible for me to tell with the AI translated subtitles, but she clearly views him as family), starts to realize he is crushing on Gu Jinyu as well and I can see why people wouldn't like this development but I found it kind of hilarious because it felt like the writers were saying "no matter what gender you are, if you are attracted to Gu Jinyu, you are gay" I love people with confusing genders!!!!!!!!! Gu Jinyu you are an icon <3
Also despite my loving the Gu Jinyu androgyny vibes: given censorship, I'm not expecting any CDramas to be outwardly trans positive but this show is insanely transphobic, made extra upsetting given how much of the show hinges on crossdressing. Like the constant reassurance in Gu Jinyu's inner monologue about her being a woman, a scene where Xiao Tian Hu wears a dress and he is immediately swarmed by a bunch of women who start hitting him and pull off the dress (which is played for humor), a scene where Gu Jinyu tries to confess about being a woman and Bai Yunxi misunderstands and wants to "prove" she's a woman by trying to make Gu Jinyu touch her boobs...... like it's really concerning that people are calling this a cute "Girl's Love" show when Bai Yunxi's reaction to learning Gu Jinyu is a woman is straight up lesbophobic, the homophobia of Xiao Tian Hu's internal panic about crushing on Gu Jinyu because he thinks he's "sick" for liking a man and another character agreeing with him, and then the rampant transphobia. Cursed show honestly.

Sworn sisters
The drama goes through any and all the romance drama contract marriage tropes that doesn't require falling and bumping mouths with each other or lips touching in any manner between Jin Yu and Yun Xi. I do like Jin Yu's personality and creative business venture ideas. She's a jack of all trades despite being forced to train as a military leader all her life. The deserts she creates looks delicious.Making Yun Xi's friend bro fall in love with Jin Yu was really unnecessary. The between this character and the main one was more interesting before the unfunny scenes of him being obsessing over her being just plain annoying.
The drama makes sure to tie things up platonically with Jin Yu and Yun Xi being solidly sisters forever once Jin Yu is able to return to being a woman with her father no longer forcing her to take over the family military business. Jin Yu gets to live and work together with Yun Xi with her second leader status remaining intact. Their interactions totally change once Jin Yu gets to live as a woman and as a sister to Yun Xi and vice versa. Friends forever. There's nothing inventive or interesting going on plot wise or any clever ambiguity at the end as to how the women feel for each other. Yun Xi's father's 180 turn was really rushed.

O romance em si que a serie tava construindo das duas termina no epi 14 foi o ultimo episodio que explorou um romance das duas com ela a levando para um encontro romantico ,depois a serie começou a diminui o tom de romance ate chega no epi 18 que foi o ultimo epi romantico delas duas, a partir dai eles começam a mudar o tom da serie é a explorar que elas eram amigas de infancia quase "irmas", eu acho que como o romance tava ficando serio e para nao receberem a censura da china tiveram que mudar o tom da serie para esse lance de "irmas" no final, e claro que nas entrelinhas da para perceber que elas se gostam mais do que amigas principalmente na cena final. mas na minha opinião nao gostei desse final meio interpretativo nao e claro que deviam ter deixado mais na cara o romance, mas quando todos descobriram que ela era mulher principalmente o irmão que quando descobriu falou que elas nao podiam ta junta por causa da identidade dela eu ja sabia para aonde a serie é a no final, eles nao podiam mas explorar um romance mais forte delas duas por que e a ficar muito na cara que e uma serie lgbt para a china.Was this review helpful to you?
