A masterclass in how to romanticize moral decay
The sister-in-law is pimping a young girl toward her own husband, fully aware that the girl and her younger brother-in-law are in love. She plays the "gratitude/ in-debt" card to manipulate the young girl. Her motive? To have the young girl bear her husband’s child so the child can keep the father tied to the orange farm. She’s driven by resentment, as her husband spends most of his time in the city with his second wife—a promiscuous dancer—rather than at the farm. After the young girl marries the orange farm owner, the brother-in-law relentlessly pursues her, never giving up on their affair. It’s astonishing that such a lowly and manipulative plot is portrayed as a tragic, beautiful story. This show deserves ratings in the negative. That said, all the actors delivered remarkable performances—each role was portrayed with absolute conviction.
