The story line was very good
The ever show i watched, perfect story, cast, ost everything about this drama was great. In my opinion this drama was best of the 2024 , the story had lots of twist but the end was very good. The performance of actors was very good they portrayed their characters very nicely. A newbie should definitely watch this drama. I will definitely re-watch this drama for multiple times. Was this review helpful to you?
The storyline is engaging, with plenty of twists that keep you on your toes. If you're looking for a show that's not only entertaining but also gives off a positive, feel-good vibe, I definitely recommend giving it a watch.
Also, if you're into the music, the OST album is really beautiful. You can listen to it here:

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! ❤️"

Great acting
The story was great in the beginning and the acting superb. But the last two episodes were very poor and really out of order and logic. Irrational twists as we came to the conclusion. luckily the acting and the two main leads saved the production. it could have been 10/10 but something was lost in the end. Of course this is my humble opinion. But honestly I didn't find necessary this irrational indulge of the blue complexity towards the ending. So, I strongly recommend it because you get addicted to this strange atmosphere in the beginning, but prepare yourself to feel a little "babo" in the endWas this review helpful to you?
Horrible k drama writing, again
The first 4 episodes were pretty enjoyable, the writing and acting were average to good. Setting up what could be an entertaining show. 7 to 8 stars. Then it got worse every single episode from that point on. The last half of the show is pretty bad, the last episode is one of the worst of all time. People handing out perfect 10 ratings like their passing out candy on Halloween. The writing from eps 4 on is dreadful, each storyline gets dumber and dumber. Hee Joo becomes a female superhero who exits deadly situations(multiple car accidents, pushed off a cliff, multitude kidnappings, going into a war zone etc etc) over and over with nary a scratch, she should have been installed as a character in squid game so that we know who the winner will be. The male lead goes from uncaring and calculating to an emotional, jealous, idiot.
It's comical to read people saying all the unexpected twists are great and they can't wait for the next reveal. Almost every twist has been a detriment to the story since episode 4. There's 1 thing i can guarantee and that's the next twist will be stupid and unnecessary and just a lazy plot device to scrap out another episode. Ep 11 leaves us going into the finale with a 'twist' that'll be dumb just like every other one. For those of you who watch the finale you'll see that the last so called twist was the dumbest of all.

Skip the last episode
It was a nice romantic drama with some mystery and heartache in the beginning. But after episode 6 I kind of figured out everything. Too many villains piled up towards the end. No logical reason for the amount of hatred each villain had for the male lead. Everyone just wanted him to suffer even though he was a victim by their hands. All the actors did a good job with their characters and the chemistry was excellent. Overall this drama was good but just skip the last few episodes. You will know when it starts going downhill. Was this review helpful to you?

I would not waste my time...
Let me keep this short, because the more I write, the more I weep.I've had my fair share of "What the hell did I just watch?" shows, but I was left speechless with this one. The plot itself is so mundane...some guy gets a threatening phone call, and that same phone ends up in the hands of his wife.
His wife, who he deemed a mute, uses this phone to demand a divorce from him, which he eventually finds out. Great! but it was literally so easy to sniff her out, she's clearly approaching this phone call in such a personal manner, berating herself and calling out flaws about herself that only she would know.
Touching lightly on the romance part of this plot, I would say it was okay. It did not stand out to me. Don't get me wrong, there were a few romantic moments here and there, but the romance only came out best, when Hee Joo or Paik Sae On got injured, other scenes just fell flat.
It did NOT help that the last episode was complete trash. Please...couldn't we have wrapped this up at episode 11, it was a pretty good ending already. Instead we got a nightmare of a finish.
SPOILER AHEAD
Suddenly Paik Sae On goes missing (bro how did the actors read the script for the last episode with a straight face??), of course Hee Joo goes out to find her husband, believing he isn't dead..but when he shows back up on screen. BOOM he's in the military...excuse me what??
This was unnecessary, completely unwanted material in the show. The reason for doing that wasn't even that valid either. Plus, during such a sensitive time, why was the whole scenario of war portrayed in this show in such an unserious manner. It solely served to make the main character look cool, and for the main characters to reunite.
There were so many options for the main characters to reunite, she could have traced his donations and met him aboard, or better yet,why make him go missing in the first place?

Good Enough
Korean Drama '' When the Phone Rings '' is a romantic melodrama. The drama has a strong start, with a pure makjang plot with many cheesy twists that are enjoyable for those who love the genre, and well handled overall.
The romance was intense as well, as the couple had chemistry and had many sweet and romantic scenes together.
On the other hand, the final part was not as great. The drama should have ended two episodes prior, as the plot was stretched too thin in the final two, they utilised way too many cliches that didn't make any sense, and in general, the story went downhill.
So, all in all, six out of ten.

It was ALMOST a great series
This was an extremely enjoyable series with so many plot twists & turns throughout, which kept it extremely interesting. Yeon Seok was fantastic, playing a character that showed a completing different size of him as an actor. He was a great mix with Soo Bin, who was also great as Hui Ju. The only thing that really made me rethink how great this series had become, was the final episode. I thought the story in episode 12 became completely foolish, showing us the reasons Sa Eon disappeared, leaving Hui Ju by herself for more than a year, it just didn't make too much sense, and didn't seem to fit with the rest of the series. It caused me to reduce my ratings on what was truly a great suspense series to that point.Thankfully in the end, everything did turn out the way you were hoping it would, so all was corrected for. It gave a solid ending to a great series.

Best Drama of 2024: A Perfect Happy Ending
I will just say this is best drama of 2024. Also my 2025 year happiest by giving happy ending. If you didn’t started yet then please go and watch this drama. Each and every episode are more interesting. The cinematography and soundtrack are equally captivating, heightening the drama's emotional and suspenseful undertones. The OST, in particular, is unforgettable and fits the narrative like a glove.
Overall, When the Phone Rings is a must-watch for K-drama fans. It offers a perfect blend of mystery, romance, and life lessons, leaving viewers deeply moved and satisfied. Don’t miss out on this gem!

Turned Sour in the Second Half
This drama had me HOOKED in the first half but then nosedived into overdramatic chaos in the second part. Gosh, it was so bad, I skipped through episodes 11-12 and didn't feel like I missed anything. The amount of unnecessary drama in a 12-ep. series is a waste of time. What the heck was episode 12? At that point, just shorten it to 11 episodes. The plot was a jumbled mess. The directing and editing complicated things further. The actors acted the hell out of that terrible script though. That's the only reason I rated this so high. The chemistry between leads was so good during the phone calls in the first half, but they couldn't hide terrible writing/directing/editing.
Lower your expectations before going into like ep. 7.

What is up with Netflix?
I'm genuinely in shock. What was that ending? They spend 90% of the show in agony and having misunderstandings and then you'd think the last episode would be just them finally getting to enjoy each other???? But HE'S SUDDENLY AT WAR ?????!?!?!?!?! AND WE DIDNT EVEN GET ANY REAL,SANGWOO YOURI SCREENTIME. i genuinely loved this show until the last episode. i cant believe that was greenlit???? I begin to wonder if Netflix just fires the writers before the ending... I hope I'm not the only one that was in shock at that? How do we only get like 10 minutes of them being happy??? They could've given them a kid at least... or 2 like why make it sad again? She's almost died like 6 times and they defeated their enemy why tf is he in Argan????#?"?$(%(#Was this review helpful to you?

The Epitome of wasted potential
This drama started off very strong, I've never been so hooked this fast, the chemistry between the leads was a killer and the phone ring OST was really good. This drama was so good that I was ready to overlook some unrealistic plot points here and there (like who the hell can survive a jump from that cliff, come on be for real writer-nim) but when using an ongoing genocide as a cheap plot device and twisting the truth while using very obvious "fake" country names (again be ffr y'all) at this point I couldn't tolerate this anymore and felt something weird and bitter about this drama. Such a shame because it went really well and could've been easily one of my favourite but I just couldn't swallow the unsensitive unnecessary war thing. Was this review helpful to you?
