Trauma or Tyranny? How Rebirth Fails to Gaslight Me Into Hating the Victim

This show has a big big problem. Now ,I’m only two episodes in and granted I didn’t watch the original and I haven’t read the source material but… by showing the Jiuyou Platform massacre in such visceral, soul-crushing detail, the writers created a hole so deep that no amount of moral fibre from the other characters can fill it.
The show has backed itself into a corner because the emotional math doesn't add up for me. They gave Yan Xun (2ML and main antagonist) a 10/10 trauma, but they expect the audience to turn on him when he reacts with 10/10 ruthlessness.
The moral lead looks weak compared to a man who watched his family’s heads rolled out on a plate.
Are they trying to show how scary Yan Xun is becoming, because to me he seems to be the most proactive and honest character. He isn't hiding behind grand stability, he’s calling out a corrupt system.
I can already tell that the show is basically going to spend the next 38 episodes trying to gaslight me into thinking the people who stayed silent during the massacre are the "good guys."

Not epic… just eye candy

I couldn’t get past episode 1—and not because it’s complex. The story is confusing and barely engaging. What stands out the most are the constant close-ups: same faces, same expressions, over and over, as if the show is more interested in reminding you how attractive the cast is than actually telling a story.

At this point, it feels less like a narrative and more like a template: handsome, nearly invincible characters, vague conflicts, and style over substance.

It’s eye candy disguised as epic storytelling.

And honestly, it’s funny how fast things move—In Search of Jade was the “phenomenon” just days ago… now it’s already forgotten. This will probably follow the same path: big hype, big “records”… and no lasting impact.

Don't Waste your time!

I was really excited about this one going in, especially because the prequel was so successful and set the bar pretty high. But honestly, I couldn’t even get past episode one. It ended up being such a letdown. The actors seem talented and likable, but their performances were surprisingly difficult to connect with, which made it hard to get invested. On top of that, the plot just feels all over the place. It’s hard to follow, and nothing really pulls me in or makes me care about what’s happening. I also couldn’t connect with any of the characters, which made it even harder to stay engaged. I kept trying to focus, but my attention kept drifting because the story just didn’t grab me at all. I really wanted to like it, but it just didn’t work for me. This is the lowest rating I’ve ever given in my 10 years of watching dramas.

First Impressions: Overhyped and Underwhelming (Episode 1 Review)

I went into Rebirth with really high expectations, especially because it was being compared to Lost You Forever and linked to the same novel author. Naturally, I expected something emotionally gripping and well-crafted from the very first episode, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a disappointment.

Let’s start with the acting. The female lead, in my opinion, is the weakest part of the show so far. Her performance feels immature and lacks the emotional depth needed to carry a main character. It’s difficult to connect with her, and she doesn’t fully embody the role. Honestly, she might have worked better as a secondary character with less screen time, but as the central figure, she falls short.

On the other hand, the male leads are doing a decent job so far. Their acting feels more natural and grounded, although it’s still early to judge based on just one episode.

Visually, the drama is fine the graphics aren’t bad but the real issue lies in the editing and storytelling. The first episode feels messy and poorly structured. Scenes jump too quickly without proper transitions, making it hard to follow what’s happening or where events are taking place. The pacing is inconsistent, and at times it feels rushed and unpolished almost like it was edited hastily, which really takes away from the viewing experience.

Overall, Rebirth doesn’t live up to the hype, at least not yet. The first episode, which should set the tone for the story, fails to deliver a strong or engaging start. That said, I’m not ready to drop it just yet. I’ll continue watching to see if it improves.

Good

Belíssimo

Simplesmente perfeito!

A atriz

No me parece justo.
