Both leads are not into art at first. However, they pursue art after being inspired by a painting they saw. Kaidanshita no Gogh also revolved on how the lead delves into art and aims to pass the prestigious Tokyo University of Art (TUA). While studying art in a prep school, they meet a person who is considered a "genius".

Both protagonists embark on an almost impossible but awe-inspiring journey of starting an art career later in life despite having very little talent to begin with.
