玉茗茶骨 ‧ Drama ‧ 2025 - 2026

Buddhist guy & Blind sister! These two!!!
I have a visceral fear for what's going on in their hearts. \\
They both came off as too good to be true
They both have unusual upbringings
One chose to be a monk but fell in love at first sight
The other was raised as a blind daughter of a servant
They both appear to be good hearted
They both swear they are observers
One always gets reprimanded
The other plays all sides without notice
They both overpraise or fuel others' anger
They both subtly manipulates
What drives them? Neither familiar nor passion.
It is deep hatred and vengeance.

P.S: I do also hate grandmother's character, and I cannot believe this but 2nd & 4th sisters appear to be the 'saints' in the Rong family.

I could not agree with you more. The (not so) blind sister is such a mystery to me. As for Grandma, I low key think she will be unalived soon, so that`s a plus.

I mean, it is certain no one will really miss her.

i think the Buddhist guy, yan bailuo, isn't one of the hidden villains because he was previously Buddhist, which like he is on the gooder side. idk how to explain it, but like its like because hes buddhist and the 'requirements' to be a monk/buddhist, they have to be peaceful and like not cause bad harm or so.

I hope you are right. He definitely does seem like he has hidden motives, maybe not full blown evil.

Here are a few reasons behind my opinion:

1. He himself told us he had a disturbed mind when he tried becoming a monk

2. Despite knowing RSB does not and probably will never like him, he still hangs around.

3. He seems to like and dislike grandma at the same time.

4. When cousin Wen was still around, it always seemed like he was fuelling that fool’s anger with his innocent statements.

5. He somehow always knows when something wrong is happening or about to.

I do not think he hates or dislikes RSB but he definitely has a motive against her family. His very constant presence confirms that.

I'm up to ep 24. My take on it  is as follows.

Rong Yung Shu, the no longer blind sister

She's now clearly after being designated as future head of the Rong family, that's why she's being so caring and complacent to the grandmother whom, in reality, she hates for causing the deaths of her parents and making her childhood miserable. It's a given that she'll try to murder her, whether she'll succeed remains to be seen.

Yan Bai Luo, the ex-Buddhist monk

I think he's an impostor who bears ill intentions toward the Rong family or, at least, toward the grandmother, based on details like:

- He turned up late for the suitor's invitation to the Rong mansion. His excuse was some landslide on the road. This could be true, or he could have been getting rid of the real Yan Bai Luo.

- Grandmother commented he didn't look at all like any member of the Yan clan.

- When cousin Wen Can told him the grandmother had had 3 husbands and one of them was a Yan clan member, Yan Bai Luo didn't know this.

- He's not a good person, he's been systematically using his servant Shi Xin to badmouth Jiang Lai to cousin Wen Can in order to clear his own path to become Shan Bao's husband.

- Shan Bao said to him: "You come from a tea family, you are a tea expert yourself, but your servant knows nothing about it".  This suggests his servant is not what he says either.

- Every time someone questions anything that doesn't add up about him, his excuse is always 'I was in a monastery'.

- When YBL was planting the wild tree leaves Jiang Lai had brought over, he said to Shan Bao: "He [Jiang Lai] has been waiting for you outside for 2 hours, will you still not see him? Come on, you promised you would see him". That promise took place on the bridge of the Buddhist nunnery where Madame Yang [Nanny Liang] had retired and died, the only ones on that bridge were Jiang Lai and Shan Bao. How could YBL possibly know about it, unless he had been eavesdropping in hiding while they were talking? This makes him a prime suspect in the murder of Madame Yang.

Yang Yi Tang, the twin brother

He has his own agenda, but what is his agreement with Rong Yung Shu and what does he have on her that he can try to blackmail her? Have I missed some important detail  in any of the episodes or has this not been unveiled yet?

Steward Cheng

He's becoming increasingly obsessed with Shan Bao, to the point of instructing a servant to throw away the rare wild tea leaves Jiang Lai had brought for her, not letting her know JL was waiting outside for her and getting the grandmother to stop her when she tried to run after JL. Previously he had also plotted to get JL into trouble. I reckon he'll try to have him killed.

@ ep 28 and it is kinda obvious who the villains are.

New mystery that is starting to unravel - The conversation between Minister Xu and his daughter when they were leaving was odd. They both knew he would be kind and want to repay his kindness to the minister, but they never broached the topic of them marrying each other. The father and daughter only said he'd have no one to back him after the minister dies. Another odd statement was from Minister Xu to LJL about not going too far when he had the first breakthrough in the Wei case and the minister wanted him to stop digging. I just hope the capital faction involved in the case does not include the Xu family.

P.S.: I hope I am not just being pessimistic and too suspicious. But isn't it odd that the lady Xu came back with a random dying beggar that seems like an important person!! He seemed to not want her to touch him.

Episode 28 ending with the injured beggar trying to write something by holding the brush in his mouth. My guess is he's the real Yan Bai Luo. I always thought the one we know was an impostor, see my post above.

Very apt. I agree but I am also curious how the Xu lady got involved in all this. I guess at this point, I want her to be bad considering her quite random ownership claim to LJL. But we shall see.

Quite random ownership! You can say that again😂. And that's not to mention her father never said anything about wanting her to marry LJL, at least not during their conversation when they left in the boat.

Her involvement with the beggar/real YBL would be too much of a coincidence if it were accidental. She must have been carrying out her own investigation somehow.

I thought so too. I even had a fleeting thought that maybe her father really isn't dead, but then I dismissed that as excessive! But who knows? LJL did come back to life.

He's not the only one. IMO, that believable excessiveness is one of many oh-so-engaging aspects of this series. It stretches our logics to the point where we are about to say 'oh, come on!',  but then twists it to make it all believable again. So, my take on it is that it's perfectly possible that Grand Secretary Xu may still be alive. I suppose he could turn up when LJL is in real dire straits but, IMV, this would detract from the credibility the plot has so far.

Now,  steward Cheng: "Since she's decided to go to you {LJL] I'll smooth the path for her. LJL, don't let what I'm burying come out again". What is the secret in that box? I reckon steward Cheng is not who he says either.

And LJL, what was the edict he received from the emperor we were not allowed to listen to? And now he's in a state of extreme distress, perhaps even imprisoned and tortured. No idea what this is about.

One of the things I quite enjoy about this drama is the fact that they create somewhat "smaller" problems that get solved in a way in every two episodes. And somehow they are all interconnected.

This thread started with the theme villains, and to an extent all of them are villains. Everyone is acting on their best interest, with their own hidden agendas, but also with hopes I guess.

Our not so blind sister, with her revenge plot, was actually helping RSB., and will definately get her happy ending.
Fake buddhist guy, unalived and hurt some people, fell in love with RSB, and didn`t even need to revenge his family (albeit wrong), cause LJL and RSB resolved the whole Yang/Wei case by themselves. But to be honest, is he really a villain to RSB? When regardinng the Rong family, his only crime was to love too deep (as we say it in Brazil).  His villainy towards the Rong family was actually, lying.

Now for Steward Cheng. From the begining with is whole pinning over RSB, I think he will definately be important in the final chapters (a.k.a 35/36). I`m not really sure I get him, he loves, adores, protect and worships her, but he never fights for her. Why? I know there is the whole employee thing, but I don`t know, he does smaller things like try to separate her from LJL. I mean?  You won`t fight for her, but will fight anyone who dares fight?

As for Grandma, she reminds me a little bit of all those emperors that think way too high of themselves, like they won`t die eventually. She is scared of being dethroned, but lowkey makes the grandaughters fight between them. She is backing down now, but I am happy that she saw her best bets make fun of her face.

Xu lady? are you coming back? or are you being brought as a jealousy scapegoat and to rescue the real Yan lord? Anyone could have done that. Why her?

Two new episodes and a new plot reveals. Would not be surprised if

1) RSB new sister is to be married of to LJL.

2) RSB`s father was the one who raised fake buddhist guy

3) RSB`s brother(?) becomes important to the story

I trully thought we`d be seeing a baby by RSB and LJL. I guess not.

WTF was in the imperial edict?

As for Shen Xiang Ling (the cousin). Her plot is it really that simple? Only to be on RSB good side and to be recognized as a Rong? Is she connected to Steward Cheng misterious box?

@MaritCustodio Very keen & detailed piece.

The mini-plots and twists are interesting, but I worry they will become too much and dilute the suspense. For example, I have been looking forward to LJL & RSB using their brains together, but all we still get is RSB always one-upping the guy as if he is dumb & cannot keep up with her when he definitely can.

All your questions, I believe are the right ones that the production team want on our minds, hence we are glue to our screens.
