I have two possible theories for Kim Seon U:
- He never really loves her. He confessed to her because he was afraid of losing her, so he did it to prevent someone taking her away from him. Actually he "isn't ready for a new relationship" himself, like what he said to Hae Yeong.
- He really loves Da Rim, but can't get over her and used the reason as an excuse to push away Ha Yeong.
But judgding by all his actions towards Da Rim, I personally think the first one is more reasonable.
He never really loves her. He is deeply closeted. His wife likely left him for this reason. He's fixated on FL as an avoidance mechanism to maintain his denial. This is why in 10 years he has never acted on his so-called attraction to her, until he is threatened by her having an actual relationship with another man. Why else would any red-blooded male with a working libido consistently reject the total-package FL2 unless he is only attracted to dudes?
I am with your first theory. I didn't like his random interest that popped up for Da-rim. He clearly was seeing how uncomfortable his "jokes" about them made her when he was testing the waters, but he still went and confessed. That's why I think the second FL is too good for him, and he doesn't deserve her. The last scene of his in the gallery just annoyed me more
