Some dramas entertain you for a few weeks. Others leave you thinking long after each episode ends. Overdo belongs to the latter.

What I appreciated most was its willingness to let its characters feel human. They weren't perfect, and they weren't meant to be. They made mistakes, grew through difficult experiences, and learned that life rarely offers simple answers. That emotional honesty made the story engaging from the beginning up to the current episodes.

Coming up Short (pun intended!)

Overdo has a low budget vertical drama quality. Camera takes are horrible, dialogues are meh, co-actors are mid like we see in mini dramas. although, they might have been selected for that very classic disjointed "look" that goes better with republican dramas. Some story related changes were expected, but here the characters and their personalities are quite different. Bad background music makes it extra unbearable.

Initial episodes and flashbacks were done poorly and failed at world building, which is necessary to pull us in as viewers into their time, their existence, believe their feelings, their words.. massive Direction and writing failure.

Now let's look at what is working -
While Overdo is technically weak, main actors in the drama hold their own and are keeping it alive despite valid criticism.
Story picks up in 9th Episode and is finally feeling acceptable, the mystery and excitement has soared.
Handsome Murong brothers + inspector step brother make an interesting trio. Our lady and her gang of female spies and secret keepers are heroic in their mission. Those Huos shall get their comeuppance!!!! ,
To unsure viewers,
Ignore the horrible technical flaws of the drama and watch for the mystery.
Tolerate the bad yellow wash, meaningless camera angles, and dozens of shoe shots and watch for the actors.
Tune out the loud insufferable background music and watch for the story.

One of the Worst Chinese Dramas I've Ever Watched

I regret wasting my time on this drama. It started with an interesting premise but quickly turned into a frustrating mess. The plot is full of forced misunderstandings, unnecessary drama, and terrible decision-making. The main character constantly gets pushed around instead of acting intelligently, making it difficult to root for him.

The romance feels forced and repetitive, with the same conflicts happening over and over again. Many side characters are annoying, and several storylines go nowhere. The pacing is painfully slow, especially in the middle episodes, and the ending doesn't make the long journey feel worthwhile.

The acting is decent, but even good performances can't save a weak script. If you're looking for a satisfying revenge story, strong character development, or logical writing, this isn't it.

Overall, I found Overdo disappointing, frustrating, and forgettable. I wouldn't recommend it unless you enjoy endless misunderstandings and characters making irrational choices.

Love the story & the cast

I haven’t watched many dramas over the past few years, but recently I started watching POJ on Netflix after hearing so many people recommend it. That made me curious about ZLH, so I decided to give Overdo a try. The first five episodes were decent. The cast was great, although I wasn’t impressed with the cinematography at first. Still, I kept watching because I enjoyed the story and the performances.
As I got more used to Republic-era dramas, I actually started to appreciate the cinematography too. The main cast is incredibly good-looking, the story is engaging, and it just keeps getting better with each episode. I can’t wait to see how it ends!

Amazing storyline and acting

It is not just a romance story but a storyline that involves social issues including human trafficking, child abusing, war and drug abuse. Due to censorship certain details could not be explicitly portrayed in the drama but after watching different analysis, I indeed discover surprises here and there.
The actors' acting skills are amazing, especially the male lead actor Zhang Linghe - each crying scene he is able to deliver different emotions, and the scene between him and his mother fighting over XXXX (unfortunately I could not say it otherwise it's a spoiler) is one of the best acting I have seen from him. That's why despite one or two flaws in AI scenes I still enjoy this drama a lot. And indeed after the first few episodes the photography and editing significantly becomes better.
I do wish there would be more variety of background music options being used in this drama because looping few music over the drama is not the best choice, but maybe it's a budget issue that's why they do not have a lot of music choices. Despite these minor flaws, still a very enjoyable and exciting drama indeed, the storyline definitely surprises me here and there.

Great acting and a touch of magic realism

Well, I'm now on ep 27 and I think I've now watched enough of this series to say I'm thoroughly enjoying this drama. The direction and editing may not be top notch, but the acting is great, the atmosphere is very well achieved, the background music comes in at precisely the right moment to great effect, the aesthetics are superb. Sure, there are plot holes, but they aren't serious enough to break the storyline and they are mainly down to mediocre editing. The characters have also become much more neatly outlined.

What I'm enjoying most is actually the sheer excess, how over the top everything and everybody is, the far too damaging trauma that somehow doesn't lose hope, the screaming-for-redemption toxicity that both ZLH and WCR portray so well. I'm just sitting back, eating sunflower seeds, having a glass of wine and letting all of it wash over me.

At this point I'm giving it 8.5 only because of the let down the direction and editing are, otherwise it'd be a 9.

EDIT: I have now finished this drama, the last 6 eps were even better.
