Addictive Cat‑Mouse Chase, Slightly Derails Towards Ending

Who is Real & Who is Real-ly Fake?
Without any spoilers, here's what worked for me (PROs) and What did not (CONs):

➥ What Worked:
1) Unstoppable Suspense — This drama hooks you instantly. It’s the kind of thriller you binge without realizing hours have passed.
2) Gritty Action — The gang and police confrontations are raw, visceral, and brilliantly choreographed. Credit to the action directors and cast for delivering such intensity.
3) Pacing and Energy — Even when the narrative grew tangled in later episodes, the adrenaline never dipped. The suspense kept you leaning forward.
4) Standout Performances — Ryu Jun Yeol, Sul Kyung Gu, and Lee Kyoo Hyung shine. Sul Kyung Gu and Lee Kyoo Hyung, in particular, inhabit their roles so convincingly that you forget they’re acting. Their thug‑detective dynamic feels lived‑in and authentic. I would believe them if they said this was their actual job, and acting is just a side-business, they were that convincing even though I have seen both of them in many other dramas.

➥ What Fell Short:
1) Over-complicated Ending Episodes — Episodes 8 onward pile on twists that makes it hard to believe and unnecessary. Scenes like miraculous escapes, infighting among police at critical moments, or villagers suddenly siding with mercenaries feel contrived. The drama had built a gritty, realistic tone, so these lapses stood out as jarring.

2) Blanks in Story — while it did not impact the viewing experience, but then I am one of those who enjoy details and tying all threads. The story moved towards a more philosophical narrative and omitted some backstories (how did the Rat know about some details of the protagonist which had no records or known to anyone; why were secondary characters doing the bidding of The Rat - how did it come to be etc)

➥ Overall: Recommended to Watch/Binge
Mousetrap is undeniably addictive — a one‑time binge that thrills, even if the finale falters. The early narrative is fantastic, but the later over‑complications, minor loopholes and illogical turns dilute its impact. Still, it’s a solid watch for fans of suspense and action, powered by stellar performances and relentless tension. What an interesting take on the old-folktale!
