The first vertical drama that made me cry
I watched this drama when I was in my early phase of vertical drama exploration. At that time, I selected vertical dramas to watch only from one Youtube channel, Dramazone. My perception of vertical dramas changed after completing this drama. 'No More Pretense: Mr. Huo's Daily Desire for Reconciliation' was so heartbreaking that it made me cry. What I liked:
1. Acting - Sublime acting by Wang Yun Yun aka Cai Cai Yun and Wang Hao Zhen. Subtle (because there were not emotional outbursts) but expressive in their eyes. They really embodied their characters well that I was moved by their emotional challenges. My heart ached throughout this drama.
2. FL characterisation - She was mentally strong. Gosh I couldn't imagine living with a spouse that hates you. I understand her conflict with regards to ML's family who was nice to her.
3. Supporting characters - I liked ML's mother and sister and FL's male doctor friend.
What I disliked:
1. ML characterisation - Inaction is also an action and he being indifferent throughout their 5 years of marriage is not acceptable. He said to FL that he liked her but was it really like or guilt? Oh and I couldn't take it that his wife had to settle his scandals.
2. Romance - This came much later when ML realised his mistake and wanted a reconciliation. I personally felt that ML did not deserve a second chance. FL should end up with the doctor instead of ML.
Favourite scene
When ML realised what a huge mistake he made

The drama can be found on YouTube under the caption: “After dealing with his 38 affairs with other women, she filed for divorce and he regretted it” or “My Ex-husband's Regret【Full】Stupid women live for love, now I live for myself”

Once bitten...
I was in the mood for an angsty scumbag husband redemption romance, so I was tempted to watch this one. It's done on a shoestring budget (the leads have like, three outfits they rotate until the end), but it does have a strong leading pair in Ben Wang and Wang Yun Yun, who deliver the required devastating thousand yard stares and barely suppressed sobs. Both main characters were dealt a terrible hand in their arranged marriage, and she pushed loyalty to extremes while he never gave her the slightest chance to prove she's not the money grubbing schemer he thinks she is. Opinions may vary, but I do think he deserved a chance to win her back, as the basis of their first marriage was so fraught with lies and misunderstandings. Also she had the sweetest in-laws, always a plus. The plot got weird at times (I never really got why the grandpa had to keep his grandson so much in the dark about a rival family schemes, and the little arc abroad was clumsy) but the central romance is gripping enough to make up for it. For all the ones who see potential in SMLs who fall in love after the breakup, have a weakness for scumbag exes (I love mess, the scumbags are kinda hot at times, and if you give one Ben Wang's face, well...), don't necesseraly root for the perfect rebound boyfriend and like to see a good grovelling/redemption arc, it's a great watch. Was this review helpful to you?

I was bamboozled by the hype around this show
I pushed off this show for weeks because of the positive reviews saying how sad the first half was but how amazing the whole thing is. I didn't end up sad though, I was angry.....that was FIVE years of mistreatment. The circumstances of his misunderstanding doesn't matter; he has eyes, he has resources, he knew her for 3 years prior, married to her for 5 years, the same people that knew them both kept calling him out and saying what a good person she was, but it took the divorce for him to question if maybe he was wrong? She is gorgeous, and I love the ML actor, but there was not enough groveling to justify their reunion. The things he did for her is what you do out of kindness, and he owed her so much anyway, but there should've been a year of pursuing at LEAST if not longer. The tears wasn't enough either, like....I can't even say it's because I have a high tolerance/standards while watching because they're actually extremely low for these shows but he didn't just ignore her those 5 years, he actively insulted, he played into the rumors around her, had multiple scandals, he never defended her, and he jumped to conclusions. I was so glad when she told him that he never gave her chances to explain when he said he was kept in the dark. And as an orphan with her struggles and upbringings, she was the biggest victim of the whole thing. I remember watching this one short drama with Chensi about him regretting a divorce and I can't help but compare it because his character always treated her well before and after the divorce but he accepted the divorce because he thought he was respecting her choice when he never wanted it. Chensi's character was tormented and he cried in regret. This man was terrible to her (doesn't have to be abuse), and maybe I will just never understand being mean and going out of my way to insult people unless there was a pattern of abuse towards me. He took one incident within the 8 years they knew each other and built everything around it that he would later regret. He was a victim of the rich people politics, sure, but she was a victim of being a poor woman used in their scheme and continued being a victim of those schemes for 5 years. I'm only taking this seriously because the show wanted to take itself seriously, and my final humble personal opinion is....he did not deserve her. Acting was great, actors were great, writing was great, I was just too pissed off by him to give him the same chance that the FL did. I think this is my first review for a short drama because I usually like them all to some degree but this one somehow rubbed me the wrong way.Was this review helpful to you?
