I noticed it, but I chose not to interpret her reaction as offensive. Normally, in time slip dramas, they depict the future with modern technology - Giant LED screens, segways etc. The future is represented by prolific and saturated amounts of technology. So I actually appreciated that the drama chose to use diversity as a way to show not only how time has progressed but also recognise how Seoul has also moved forward.

I think you are the one being prejudiced. She got startled by the sight of people of different races (note the plural, it's relevant) she had never seen before. You clearly saw how she reacted to the white blond woman before she saw the black man, why didn't you pick on that too but chose instead to isolate her reaction to the latter? Aren't you just looking for an excuse to be offended and shoot the series down? For your information, Asian dramas do not have a duty to tiptoe around you.

The cultural and historical context is important. In Joseon era there was almost 0 % chance of meeting anyone from Africa or Europe.
That's actually not true. The Ming Dynasty brought enslaved Black folks with them, and the Portuguese which was an integral part of the East & South African Slave Trade had established ports in Macau. That's not including the other cultures that moved with trade, including Southern Indians who had dark skin.
Contemporary history has erased the amount of movement and ethnic diversity that has existed in the past, and that's not just Korean history.
Also this show is FULL of historical inaccuracies, so I don't think context actually is that important?

Lol. Do you not know the history of Joseon? Look it up. Check out the role of the Ming and Qing dynasties and how they even impacted ethics and law in the Joseon period, let alone tributes, Military engagement and trade.
