What if she is the real Seori?
During the childhood incident, her soul was stolen and switched with the past.
The Seori that lived as a "bad actor" in the present was the past soul.
This explains the following:
A. Present Seori easily adjusted to the modern world
B. She has memories of the childhood incident
C. The "bad actor" version was the soul from the past, the modern world is very alien to her, she probably thought it's hell or punishment
D. Why the Seori we know was very brave and vocal even in the past, because her real childhood was in the present. Deep in her subconscious, it's telling her that, but consciously she thought it was a silly childhood dream, probably "evil" so she tucked it away.
Originally, we assumed that the Seori we know in the present travelled to the present when they were still kids. But if you think about her lif as a childhood actress, it won't make sense if it was a temporary thing. It's not easy to become an actor, a child at that. It takes years to train a child to understand acting and land roles or commercials.
This tells us that her parents were already training her. Probably even enroled in an acting school, until she finally got a break. When she became famous, their creditors started calling but they can't pay their loans yet, so they committed suicide. Blame it on them while ensuring their kid leaves a good name instead of living with the sad news.
But their plan failed because (1) her soul was stolen and teleported to thekpast, and (2) she was saved and grew up with her grandmothe, or at least a different soul, the one from the past.
This is actually a really good theory... Her grandmother, rival, head of her agency and others all say that she "changed" after the accident. I do think it is possible that her soul got swapped to Joseon era, especially with this underlying theme of parallel worlds /timelines within the drama. So even though Joseon happened over 300+ years ago, its also happening now because is the ill-omened star.
Childhood Car Accident - Shin Seori almost died and swapped souls with Kang Dam Shin (before she entered the palace and this is what the shaman sees in her vision, that Kang Dam Shin is speaking like modern Korean and not Joseon-like)
This is why when Shin Seori (who's actually Kang Dam Shin now) cannot act anymore as she used to. She also had strange manners and tongue as observed by her Grandmother, Agency Head and others.
In Joseon era, Shin Seori is now Kang Dam Shin. She must have seen sageuk dramas and therefore adjusts well, and even enters the court as a Court Lady. But her ultimate goal is to always survive. This is when she also meets the Grand Prince and Crown Prince - but is naive, and looks out only for herself even when it makes her feel sad/guilty.
We are yet to see how time had passed - looks like Shin Seori swapped as a teenager but Kang Dam Shin was older? (since their faces are different, even if ages could be close by Joseon standards). When they swapped back Shin Seori (of Kang Dam Shin body) is also older now.
Why Shin Seori (As Kang Dam Shin) married Crown Prince / The King is yet to be seen. Most likely again because she wanted to survive.
Joseon Era : Poisoning Incident: This is where Kang Dam Shin (in Shin Seori's modern-day body) swaps back with Shin Seori (in Dam Shin's Joseon Era body). This way now the souls are in original bodies. But each have lived in the other's times.
Given she had spent so much time in Joseon as Dam Shin, Shin Seori started believing and continued living as her even though she was in her original body.
But the soul remembers so whenever she saw her old pictures and memories - she teared up. This was sped up in Ep 12 as we read the diary entries of the grandmother and also memories coming back to Shin Seori - as they are her own memories from childhood. Dam Shin had no way of knowing them; as the shaman explained that souls and memories are tied together.
In between when the FL and Grandfather Chail met with the accident - I think Shin Seori (original soul in original body but thinking she is Dam Shin) was trying to enter the comatose body of Dam Shin (in her original body) - but this was a weak link and so they did not swap again.
Now Ep 13 trailer is a bit weird - what is the shaman trying to say, that if Shin Seori tries to do anything to save her grandmother? Will it lock her in Joseon or what? I did not understand that. How is the soul swapping and being locked (shin seori in joseon) going to help grandma?
It seemed to me that Episode 13 indeed confirmed that Seori's soul had been swapped when she was young but returned to her original life in conjunction with the poisoning that starts the show. So, when she is in a coma (ep.13) she is informed that she can save her man by going back to Joseon at the cost of erasing her memories and pain, yet she decides to challenge and change her fate and awakes from the coma with her soul staying where it belonged in the first place? (And the comet will disappear and all is back where and how it is meant to be?)
