A Journey of Courage, Healing, & Slowing Down to Enjoy Life
π Just diving into this documentary and will update my review as I go and as episodes air but I feel this is going to be one of those that hits very close to home and will be a painful yet healing series to watch. As someone who tends to hide things deep within until they finally become too much, I have been watching (and hurting for) Zhao LuSi since everything developed. I wish her light, happiness, and freedom from the yoke of others' expectations.P.S. Episode 1 (Eng Sub) is now available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqnBvEYl-6A
π Episode 1... is everything. So beautifully shot and touching.
π΅ Favorite Quote: "Is a bad temper necessarily disgraceful? Itβs just a small shield raised when the heart is squeezed."
π Episode 2... was so perfect. I loved how it really showed Lusi's caring and resilient spirit. How she really helped some of the kids realize how important communication of feelings (even bad ones) are important and felt like that was probably something that she actually personally struggled/struggles with. The "30,000 Glances Back" village photography project was gorgeously shot and done and made me want to go to that village and just immerse myself in the culture for a few weeks. I can imagine that Zhao Lusi found lifelong friendships there and a real sense of peace and courage.
π΅ Favorite Quote: "With the windows to the outside would shut, I start to listen to my inner voice."
π Episode 3... well, best episode yet, I think! Got to really see Lusi's personality and how she interacts more naturally with people, animals, and nature. It was beautiful and made me love her even more. I teared up by the end with the kids were saying their heartfelt goodbyes!!
π΅ Favorite Quote: βFor me, every sound I hear is a picture & a memory.β -Zhao Lusi

It's freeing and refreshing!
I love it! Be Myself is not just another variety show. Everything is fresh and relaxing. Everything flows naturally. There's no script or acting, or directing. No expectations, no pressures, just simply enjoying one's day. Theres also a lot to be learned from the show. Just simply being thankful and appreciative of who you are and what you have is such a valuable lesson. ZhaoLusi thought process is a marvel. She's really so wise, though she really made a mistake on taking for granted her mental and physical health. But thank God, she learned her lesson and making the utmost care to really do better, hence she needs this healing journey. She is really a doll and a sweetheart relating and interacting with the people around her. So I can't wait for what the next episodes will bringWas this review helpful to you?
Absolutely Wonderful
I'll start of by saying that I never leave reviews for anything. This series has captured my heart. It's beautifully made. There's so much heart, love, and healing in it. Zhao Lusi shares a piece of her healing process with us, while healing something inside us as well. She's very brave and kind. I appreciate what she's doing with this series. I can't wait for more episodes. Was this review helpful to you?

A Calming and Healing Watch
Episode 1: I'll be the first to admit, I don't like variety shows. I don't watch them in America, so I thought this might take some effort to sit down and watch, although I am a huge fan of Zhao Lusi. From the first minute, I found myself captivated by the narration, scenery, and conversations. There are some heartwarming and humorous scenes between her drama co star, Fu Bohan and the villagers. Along the way, she meets an elderly gentleman who shares with her his artistic craft. When he says: "I'm old and my hands are dirty. Very dirty."
Lusi gently reassures him, responding to him having calluses: "This is your medal. A craftsman's medal. This is why you're so great."
What a beautiful, uplifting, and sincere thing to say to someone. My family is full of struggling craftsman. I absolutely wanted to embrace her at this moment. To me, this was actually my favorite segment because of the profound and deep connection she found with him. I also LOVED how they incorporated him playing the bone flute. It was absolutely enchanting to hear, and now I want to find one and learn to play. But, I digress. During this segment, Lusi shows interest in his craft and later gifts him with a sewing machine. Also, she is so caring and considerate to her host family, bringing them gifts and praising the young girl on many occasions.
While she shares a few memories from her past, she does so in a way to connect with viewers that have shared a similar life. I have read through comments on another platform who praise her for her ability to comfort them. I read one recently that made me cry. Suffering from many things, the poster, because of this show, decided to take a trip, like Luci, to heal herself. How amazing to be able to touch a heart to warmly.
Through this show, she's bringing awareness to depression, who MANY suffer from all over the world. In some countries, it's a stigma where it's not supposed to be discussed. The courage to pitch this show and follow through knowing segments of the population and her own entertainment circle would brutally attack every word she said, is absolutely courageous.
Overall, this show is very uplifting and encouraging. It's calming and therapeutic. There are many challenges we will face in life. How we choose to overcome and recover from these challenges shouldn't be judged and scrutinized with a magnifying class. It should be celebrated and embraced.
(Note: Those bombarding this show with 1 stars because you don't like the actress shows she hasn't failed in a series, but you have failed as a compassionate human being).
