the kind of series you finish only if you’re determined—never because it truly captivates you.
Blossoming Affection had the potential to be a tender, courtly romance, but the execution fell short in several important areas. One of the biggest issues was the way the female lead—and even the supporting characters—seemed to completely overlook the etiquette and decorum expected when interacting with the imperial family. In a historical drama, this kind of cultural and behavioral accuracy is part of the charm, so when it’s ignored, it breaks immersion and makes the scenes feel careless rather than intentional.Production-wise, the drama also felt oddly empty. For a story set within the imperial sphere, the world-building was surprisingly thin. It almost felt like the entire narrative revolved around just two figures—the prince uncle and the 2nd prince—while everyone else faded into background noise. The lack of political depth, court dynamics, and wider family involvement made the palace feel more like a small household than an empire.
